1 A nd it cometh to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel ask at Jehovah, saying, `Who doth go up for us unto the Canaanite, at the commencement, to fight against it?'

Aconteció después de la muerte de Josué, que los hijos de Israel hicieron esta consulta a Jehová: —¿Quién de nosotros subirá primero a pelear contra los cananeos?

2 A nd Jehovah saith, `Judah doth go up; lo, I have given the land into his hand.'

Jehová respondió: —Judá subirá; porque yo he entregado la tierra en sus manos.

3 A nd Judah saith to Simeon his brother, `Go up with me into my lot, and we fight against the Canaanite -- and I have gone, even I, with thee into thy lot;' and Simeon goeth with him.

Judá dijo a su hermano Simeón: «Sube conmigo al territorio que se me ha adjudicado y peleemos contra el cananeo; y yo también iré contigo al tuyo.» Y Simeón fue con él.

4 A nd Judah goeth up, and Jehovah giveth the Canaanite and the Perizzite into their hand, and they smite them in Bezek -- ten thousand men;

Judá subió, y Jehová entregó en sus manos al cananeo y al ferezeo, e hirieron de ellos en Bezec a diez mil hombres.

5 a nd they find Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and fight against him, and smite the Canaanite and the Perizzite.

Hallaron a Adoni-bezec en Bezec, pelearon contra él y derrotaron al cananeo y al ferezeo.

6 A nd Adoni-Bezek fleeth, and they pursue after him, and seize him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes,

Adoni-bezec huyó, pero ellos lo persiguieron, lo prendieron, y le cortaron los pulgares de las manos y de los pies.

7 a nd Adoni-Bezek saith, `Seventy kings -- their thumbs and their great toes cut off -- have been gathering under my table; as I have done so hath God repaid to me;' and they bring him in to Jerusalem, and he dieth there.

Entonces dijo Adoni-bezec: «Setenta reyes, con los pulgares de sus manos y de sus pies cortados, recogían las migajas debajo de mi mesa. Como yo hice, así me ha pagado Dios.» Luego lo llevaron a Jerusalén, donde murió. Judá conquista Jerusalén y Hebrón

8 A nd the sons of Judah fight against Jerusalem, and capture it, and smite it by the mouth of the sword, and the city they have sent into fire;

Atacaron los hijos de Judá a Jerusalén y la tomaron, pasaron a sus habitantes a filo de espada y pusieron fuego a la ciudad.

9 a nd afterwards have the sons of Judah gone down to fight against the Canaanite, inhabiting the hill-country, and the south, and the low country;

Después, los hijos de Judá descendieron para pelear contra el cananeo que habitaba en las montañas, en el Neguev y en los llanos.

10 a nd Judah goeth unto the Canaanite who is dwelling in Hebron (and the name of Hebron formerly Kirjath-Arba), and they smite Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

Judá marchó contra el cananeo que habitaba en Hebrón, la cual se llamaba antes Quiriat-arba; e hirieron a Sesai, a Ahimán y a Talmai. Otoniel conquista Debir y recibe a Acsa

11 A nd he goeth thence unto the inhabitants of Debir (and the name of Debir formerly Kirjath-Sepher),

De allí fue contra los que habitaban en Debir, que antes se llamaba Quiriat-sefer.

12 a nd Caleb saith, `He who smiteth Kirjath-Sepher -- and hath captured it -- then I have given to him Achsah my daughter for a wife.'

Entonces dijo Caleb: «Al que ataque a Quiriat-sefer y la tome, yo le daré a Acsa, mi hija, por mujer.»

13 A nd Othniel son of Kenaz, younger brother of Caleb, doth capture it, and he giveth to him Achsah his daughter for a wife.

La tomó Otoniel hijo de Cenaz, hermano menor de Caleb, y éste le entregó a su hija Acsa por mujer.

14 A nd it cometh to pass in her coming in, that she persuadeth him to ask from her father the field, and she lighteth from off the ass, and Caleb saith to her, `What -- to thee?'

Cuando ella se iba con él, Otoniel la persuadió para que pidiera a su padre un campo. Acsa se bajó del asno, y Caleb le preguntó: —¿Qué tienes?

15 A nd she saith to him, `Give to me a blessing; when the south land thou hast given me -- then thou hast given to me springs of water; and Caleb giveth to her the upper springs and the lower springs.

Ella le respondió: —Concédeme un don; puesto que me has dado tierra del Neguev, dame también fuentes de aguas. Entonces Caleb le dio las fuentes de arriba y las fuentes de abajo. Conquistas de Judá y de Benjamín

16 A nd the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, have gone up out of the city of palms with the sons of Judah the wilderness of Judah, which in the south of Arad, and they go and dwell with the people.

Y los hijos del ceneo, suegro de Moisés, subieron de la ciudad de las palmeras con los hijos de Judá al desierto de Judá, que está en el Neguev, cerca de Arad, y habitaron con el pueblo.

17 A nd Judah goeth with Simeon his brother, and they smite the Canaanite inhabiting Zephath, and devote it; and calleth the name of the city Hormah.

Salió, pues, Judá con su hermano Simeón, y derrotaron al cananeo que habitaba en Sefat, la asolaron y le pusieron por nombre Horma.

18 A nd Judah captureth Gaza and its border, and Askelon and its border, and Ekron and its border;

Tomó también Judá a Gaza con su territorio, a Ascalón con su territorio y a Ecrón con su territorio.

19 a nd Jehovah is with Judah, and he occupieth the hill-country, but not to dispossess the inhabitants of the valley, for they have chariots of iron.

Y Jehová estaba con Judá, quien expulsó a los de las montañas, pero no pudo expulsar a los que habitaban en los llanos, los cuales tenían carros de hierro.

20 A nd they give to Caleb Hebron, as Moses hath spoken, and he dispossesseth thence the three sons of Anak.

Como Moisés había dicho, dieron Hebrón a Caleb. Éste expulsó de allí a los tres hijos de Anac,

21 A nd the Jebusite, inhabiting Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin have not dispossessed; and the Jebusite dwelleth with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, till this day.

pero al jebuseo, que habitaba en Jerusalén, no lo expulsaron los hijos de Benjamín, y el jebuseo ha habitado con los hijos de Benjamín en Jerusalén hasta hoy. José conquista Bet-el

22 A nd the house of Joseph go up -- even they -- to Beth-El, and Jehovah with them;

También la casa de José subió contra Bet-el; y Jehová estaba con ellos.

23 a nd the house of Joseph cause to spy about Beth-El (and the name of the city formerly is Luz),

Puso la casa de José espías en esa ciudad, que antes se llamaba Luz.

24 a nd the watchers see a man coming out from the city, and say to him, `Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance of the city, and we have done with thee kindness.'

Los que espiaban vieron a un hombre que salía de allí y le dijeron: «Muéstranos ahora la entrada de la ciudad y tendremos de ti misericordia.»

25 A nd he sheweth them the entrance of the city, and they smite the city by the mouth of the sword, and the man and all his family they have sent away;

Así lo hizo, y ellos hirieron la ciudad a filo de espada, pero dejaron ir a aquel hombre con toda su familia.

26 a nd the man goeth to the land of the Hittites, and buildeth a city, and calleth its name Luz -- it its name unto this day.

Él se fue a la tierra de los heteos y edificó una ciudad a la cual llamó Luz. Y éste es su nombre hasta hoy. Conquistas de Manasés y de Efraín

27 A nd Manasseh hath not occupied Beth-Shean and its towns, and Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Iblaim and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, and the Canaanite is desirous to dwell in that land;

Tampoco Manasés expulsó a los de Bet-seán ni a los de sus aldeas, ni a los de Taanac y sus aldeas, ni a los de Dor y sus aldeas, ni a los habitantes de Ibleam y sus aldeas, ni a los que vivían en Meguido y en sus aldeas; y el cananeo persistía en habitar en aquella tierra.

28 a nd it cometh to pass, when Israel hath been strong, that he setteth the Canaanite to tribute, and hath not utterly dispossessed it.

Cuando Israel se sintió fuerte, hizo tributario al cananeo, pero no lo expulsó.

29 A nd Ephraim hath not dispossessed the Canaanite who is dwelling in Gezer, and the Canaanite dwelleth in its midst, in Gezer.

Tampoco Efraín expulsó al cananeo que habitaba en Gezer, sino dejó que el cananeo habitara en medio de ellos. Conquistas de las demás tribus

30 Z ebulun hath not dispossessed the inhabitants of Kitron, and the inhabitants of Nahalol, and the Canaanite dwelleth in its midst, and they become tributary.

Tampoco Zabulón expulsó a los que habitaban en Quitrón, ni a los que habitaban en Naalal, sino que el cananeo habitó en medio de él y le fue tributario.

31 A sher hath not dispossessed the inhabitants of Accho, and the inhabitants of Zidon, and Ahlab, and Achzib, and Helbah, and Aphik, and Rehob;

Tampoco Aser expulsó a los que habitaban en Aco, ni a los que vivían en Sidón, en Ahlab, en Aczib, en Helba, en Afec y en Rehob.

32 a nd the Asherite dwelleth in the midst of the Canaanite, the inhabitants of the land, for it hath not dispossessed them.

Y vivió Aser entre los cananeos que habitaban en la tierra, pues no los expulsó.

33 N aphtali hath not dispossessed the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh, and the inhabitants of Beth-Anath, and he dwelleth in the midst of the Canaanite, the inhabitants of the land; and the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh and of Beth-Anath have become tributary to them.

Tampoco Neftalí expulsó a los que vivían en Bet-semes ni a los de Bet-anat, sino que vivió entre los cananeos que habitaban en la tierra; pero le fueron tributarios los habitantes de Bet-semes y los de Bet-anat.

34 A nd the Amorites press the sons of Dan to the mountain, for they have not suffered them to go down to the valley;

Los amorreos empujaron a los hijos de Dan hasta la montaña, y no los dejaron descender a los llanos.

35 a nd the Amorite is desirous to dwell in mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, and the hand of the house of Joseph is heavy, and they become tributary;

El amorreo persistió en habitar en el monte de Heres, en Ajalón y en Saalbim, pero cuando la casa de José cobró fuerzas, lo hizo tributario.

36 a nd the border of the Amorite from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock and upward.

El límite del amorreo fue desde la subida de Acrabim, desde Sela hacia arriba.
