1 M y son, if thou dost accept my sayings, And my commands dost lay up with thee,

»Hijo mío, si recibes mis palabras y guardas en ti mis mandamientos,

2 T o cause thine ear to attend to wisdom, Thou inclinest thy heart to understanding,

haciendo estar atento tu oído a la sabiduría; si inclinas tu corazón a la prudencia,

3 F or, if for intelligence thou callest, For understanding givest forth thy voice,

si invocas a la inteligencia y pides que la prudencia te asista;

4 I f thou dost seek her as silver, And as hid treasures searchest for her,

si la buscas como si fuera plata y la examinas como a un tesoro,

5 T hen understandest thou fear of Jehovah, And knowledge of God thou findest.

entonces entenderás el temor de Jehová y hallarás el conocimiento de Dios,

6 F or Jehovah giveth wisdom, From His mouth knowledge and understanding.

porque Jehová da la sabiduría y de su boca proceden el conocimiento y la inteligencia.

7 E ven to lay up for the upright substance, A shield for those walking uprightly.

Él provee de sana sabiduría a los rectos: es escudo para los que caminan rectamente.

8 T o keep the paths of judgment, And the way of His saints He preserveth.

Él es quien guarda las veredas del juicio y preserva el camino de sus santos.

9 T hen understandest thou righteousness, And judgment, and uprightness -- every good path.

Entonces comprenderás qué es justicia, juicio y equidad, y todo buen camino.

10 F or wisdom cometh into thy heart, And knowledge to thy soul is pleasant,

Cuando la sabiduría penetre en tu corazón y el conocimiento sea grato a tu alma,

11 T houghtfulness doth watch over thee, Understanding doth keep thee,

la discreción te guardará y te preservará la inteligencia,

12 T o deliver thee from an evil way, From any speaking froward things,

para librarte del mal camino, de los hombres que hablan perversamente,

13 W ho are forsaking paths of uprightness, To walk in ways of darkness,

de los que abandonan los caminos rectos para andar por sendas tenebrosas,

14 W ho are rejoicing to do evil, They delight in frowardness of the wicked,

de los que disfrutan haciendo el mal y se gozan con las perversiones del vicio,

15 W hose paths crooked, Yea, they are perverted in their ways.

las veredas de los cuales son torcidas, y torcidos sus caminos.

16 T o deliver thee from the strange woman, From the stranger who hath made smooth her sayings,

»Serás así librado de la mujer ajena, de la extraña que halaga con sus palabras,

17 W ho is forsaking the guide of her youth, And the covenant of her God hath forgotten.

que abandona al compañero de su juventud y se olvida del pacto de su Dios,

18 F or her house hath inclined unto death, And unto Rephaim her paths.

por lo cual su casa se desliza hacia la muerte, y sus veredas hacia los muertos.

19 N one going in unto her turn back, Nor do they reach the paths of life.

De los que a ella se lleguen, ninguno volverá ni seguirá de nuevo los senderos de la vida.

20 T hat thou dost go in the way of the good, And the paths of the righteous dost keep.

»Tú así andarás por el camino de los buenos y seguirás las sendas de los justos;

21 F or the upright do inhabit the earth, And the perfect are left in it,

porque los rectos habitarán la tierra y los íntegros permanecerán en ella.

22 A nd the wicked from the earth are cut off, And treacherous dealers plucked out of it!

En cambio, los malvados serán eliminados de la tierra, y de ella serán arrancados los prevaricadores.
