1 A nd Rachel seeth that she hath not borne to Jacob, and Rachel is envious of her sister, and saith unto Jacob, `Give me sons, and if there is none -- I die.'

Al ver Raquel que no daba hijos a Jacob tuvo envidia de su hermana, y dijo a Jacob: —Dame hijos, o si no, me muero.

2 A nd Jacob's anger burneth against Rachel, and he saith, `Am I in stead of God who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?'

Jacob se enojó con Raquel y le dijo: —¿Soy yo acaso Dios, que te ha negado el fruto de tu vientre?

3 A nd she saith, `Lo, my handmaid Bilhah, go in unto her, and she doth bear on my knees, and I am built up, even I, from her;'

Entonces ella le dijo: —Aquí está mi sierva Bilha; llégate a ella, y que dé a luz sobre mis rodillas. Así yo también tendré hijos de ella.

4 a nd she giveth to him Bilhah her maid-servant for a wife, and Jacob goeth in unto her;

Le dio a Bilha, su sierva, por mujer, y Jacob se llegó a ella.

5 a nd Bilhah conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son,

Bilha concibió y dio a luz un hijo a Jacob.

6 a nd Rachel saith, `God hath decided for me, and also hath hearkened to my voice, and giveth to me a son;' therefore hath she called his name Dan.

Dijo entonces Raquel: «Me juzgó Dios, pues ha oído mi voz y me ha dado un hijo.» Por tanto, llamó su nombre Dan.

7 A nd Bilhah, Rachel's maid-servant, conceiveth again, and beareth a second son to Jacob,

Concibió otra vez Bilha, la sierva de Raquel, y dio a luz un segundo hijo a Jacob.

8 a nd Rachel saith, `With wrestlings of God I have wrestled with my sister, yea, I have prevailed;' and she calleth his name Napthali.

Y dijo Raquel: «En contienda de Dios he luchado con mi hermana y he vencido.» Le puso por nombre Neftalí.

9 A nd Leah seeth that she hath ceased from bearing, and she taketh Zilpah her maid-servant, and giveth her to Jacob for a wife;

Al ver Lea que había dejado de dar a luz, tomó a su sierva Zilpa, y la dio a Jacob por mujer.

10 a nd Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant, beareth to Jacob a son,

Y Zilpa, sierva de Lea, dio a luz un hijo a Jacob.

11 a nd Leah saith, `A troop is coming;' and she calleth his name Gad.

Entonces dijo Lea: «Vino la ventura»; y le puso por nombre Gad.

12 A nd Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant, beareth a second son to Jacob,

Luego Zilpa, la sierva de Lea, dio a luz otro hijo a Jacob.

13 a nd Leah saith, `Because of my happiness, for daughters have pronounced me happy;' and she calleth his name Asher.

Y dijo Lea: «Para dicha mía, porque las mujeres me llamarán dichosa»; y le puso por nombre Aser.

14 A nd Reuben goeth in the days of wheat-harvest, and findeth love-apples in the field, and bringeth them in unto Leah, his mother, and Rachel saith unto Leah, `Give to me, I pray thee, of the love-apples of thy son.'

En el tiempo de la siega del trigo halló Rubén en el campo unas mandrágoras que trajo a Lea, su madre. Y dijo Raquel a Lea: —Te ruego que me des de las mandrágoras de tu hijo.

15 A nd she saith to her, `Is thy taking my husband a little thing, that thou hast taken also the love-apples of my son?' and Rachel saith, `Therefore doth he lie with thee to-night, for thy son's love-apples.'

Ella respondió: —¿Te parece poco que hayas tomado mi marido, para que también quieras llevarte las mandrágoras de mi hijo? Raquel dijo: —Pues dormirá contigo esta noche a cambio de las mandrágoras de tu hijo.

16 A nd Jacob cometh in from the field at evening; and Leah goeth to meet him, and saith, `Unto me dost thou come in, for hiring I have hired thee with my son's love-apples;' and he lieth with her during that night.

A la tarde, cuando Jacob volvía del campo, salió Lea a su encuentro y le dijo: —Llégate a mí, porque a la verdad te he alquilado por las mandrágoras de mi hijo. Y durmió con ella aquella noche.

17 A nd God hearkeneth unto Leah, and she conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son, a fifth,

Dios oyó a Lea, que concibió y dio a luz el quinto hijo a Jacob.

18 a nd Leah saith, `God hath given my hire, because I have given my maid-servant to my husband;' and she calleth his name Issachar.

Y dijo Lea: «Dios me ha dado mi recompensa, por cuanto di mi sierva a mi marido»; por eso lo llamó Isacar.

19 A nd conceive again doth Leah, and she beareth a sixth son to Jacob,

Después concibió Lea otra vez, y dio a luz el sexto hijo a Jacob.

20 a nd Leah saith, `God hath endowed me -- a good dowry; this time doth my husband dwell with me, for I have borne to him six sons;' and she calleth his name Zebulun;

Y dijo Lea: «Dios me ha dado una buena dote; ahora vivirá conmigo mi marido, porque le he dado a luz seis hijos.» Y le puso por nombre Zabulón.

21 a nd afterwards hath she born a daughter, and calleth her name Dinah.

Por último dio a luz una hija, y le puso por nombre Dina.

22 A nd God remembereth Rachel, and God hearkeneth unto her, and openeth her womb,

Pero se acordó Dios de Raquel, la oyó Dios y le concedió hijos.

23 a nd she conceiveth and beareth a son, and saith, `God hath gathered up my reproach;'

Concibió ella y dio a luz un hijo. Y exclamó: «Dios ha quitado mi afrenta»;

24 a nd she calleth his name Joseph, saying, `Jehovah is adding to me another son.'

y le puso por nombre José, diciendo: «Añádame Jehová otro hijo.» Tretas de Jacob y de Labán

25 A nd it cometh to pass, when Rachel hath borne Joseph, that Jacob saith unto Laban, `Send me away, and I go unto my place, and to my land;

Cuando Raquel dio a luz a José, Jacob dijo a Labán: —Déjame ir a mi lugar, a mi tierra.

26 g ive up my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and I go; for thou -- thou hast known my service which I have served thee.'

Dame a mis mujeres, por las cuales te he servido, y a mis hijos, y déjame ir; pues tú sabes los servicios que te he prestado.

27 A nd Laban saith unto him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes -- I have observed diligently that Jehovah doth bless me for thy sake.'

Labán le respondió: —Halle yo ahora gracia en tus ojos, y quédate; he experimentado que Jehová me ha bendecido por tu causa.

28 H e saith also, `Define thy hire to me, and I give.'

Y añadió: —Señálame tu salario y yo te lo pagaré.

29 A nd he saith unto him, `Thou -- thou hast known that which I have served thee, and that which thy substance was with me;

Jacob respondió: —Tú sabes cómo te he servido y cómo ha estado tu ganado conmigo,

30 f or little which thou hast had at my appearance, and it breaketh forth into a multitude, and Jehovah blesseth thee at my coming; and now, when do I make, I also, for mine own house?'

porque poco tenías antes de mi venida, y ha crecido en gran número; Jehová te ha bendecido con mi llegada. Y ahora, ¿cuándo trabajaré también para mi propia casa?

31 A nd he saith, `What do I give to thee?' And Jacob saith, `Thou dost not give me anything; if thou do for me this thing, I turn back; I have delight; thy flock I watch;

Labán le preguntó entonces: —¿Qué te daré? Y respondió Jacob: —No me des nada. Si haces esto por mí, volveré a apacentar tus ovejas.

32 I pass through all thy flock to-day to turn aside from thence every sheep speckled and spotted, and every brown sheep among the lambs, and speckled and spotted among the goats -- and it hath been my hire;

Hoy pasaré por entre tu rebaño y apartaré todas las ovejas manchadas y salpicadas de color y todas las ovejas de color oscuro, y las manchadas y salpicadas de color entre las cabras. Eso será mi salario,

33 a nd my righteousness hath answered for me in the day to come, when it cometh in for my hire before thy face; -- every one which is not speckled and spotted among goats, and brown among lambs -- it is stolen with me.'

y la garantía de mi honradez el día de mañana. Cuando vengas a ver lo que he ganado, toda la que no sea pintada ni manchada en las cabras, y de color oscuro entre las ovejas, se me habrá de tener por robada.

34 A nd Laban saith, `Lo, O that it were according to thy word;'

Dijo entonces Labán: —Bien, sea como tú dices.

35 a nd he turneth aside during that day the ring-straked and the spotted he-goats, and all the speckled and the spotted she-goats, every one that white in it, and every brown one among the lambs, and he giveth into the hand of his sons,

Pero Labán apartó aquel mismo día los machos cabríos manchados y rayados, todas las cabras manchadas y salpicadas de color, toda aquella que tenía en sí algo de blanco y todas las de color oscuro entre las ovejas, y las puso en manos de sus hijos.

36 a nd setteth a journey of three days between himself and Jacob; and Jacob is feeding the rest of the flock of Laban.

Y puso tres días de camino entre él y Jacob. Mientras tanto, Jacob apacentaba las otras ovejas de Labán.

37 A nd Jacob taketh to himself a rod of fresh poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut, and doth peel in them white peelings, making bare the white that on the rods,

Tomó entonces Jacob varas verdes de álamo, de avellano y de castaño, y labró en ellas unas franjas blancas, descubriendo así lo blanco de las varas.

38 a nd setteth up the rods which he hath peeled in the gutters in the watering troughs (when the flock cometh in to drink), over-against the flock, that they may conceive in their coming in to drink;

Puso las varas que había descortezado delante del ganado, en los canales de los abrevaderos adonde venían a beber agua las ovejas, las cuales procreaban cuando venían a beber.

39 a nd the flocks conceive at the rods, and the flock beareth ring-straked, speckled, and spotted ones.

Así concebían las ovejas delante de las varas; y parían borregos listados, pintados y salpicados de diversos colores.

40 A nd the lambs hath Jacob parted, and he putteth the face of the flock towards the ring-straked, also all the brown in the flock of Laban, and he setteth his own droves by themselves, and hath not set them near Laban's flock.

Apartaba Jacob los corderos, y ponía con su propio rebaño los listados y todo lo que era oscuro del hato de Labán. Y ponía su hato aparte, no con las ovejas de Labán.

41 A nd it hath come to pass whenever the strong ones of the flock conceive, that Jacob set the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, to cause them to conceive by the rods,

Y sucedía que cuantas veces se hallaban en celo las ovejas más fuertes, Jacob ponía las varas delante de ellas en los abrevaderos, para que concibieran a la vista de las varas.

42 a nd when the flock is feeble, he doth not set; and the feeble ones have been Laban's, and the strong ones Jacob's.

Pero cuando venían las ovejas más débiles, no las ponía; así, las más débiles eran para Labán y las más fuertes para Jacob.

43 A nd the man increaseth very exceedingly, and hath many flocks, and maid-servants, and men-servants, and camels, and asses.

Y se enriqueció Jacob muchísimo, y tuvo muchas ovejas, siervas y siervos, camellos y asnos.
