1 A nd Naaman, head of the host of the king of Aram, was a great man before his lord, and accepted of face, for by him had Jehovah given salvation to Aram, and the man was mighty in valour -- leprous.

Naamán, general del ejército del rey de Siria, era un hombre que gozaba de gran prestigio delante de su señor, quien lo tenía en alta estima, pues por medio de él había dado Jehová salvación a Siria. Era éste un hombre valeroso en extremo, pero leproso.

2 A nd the Aramaeans have gone out troops, and they take captive out of the land of Israel a little damsel, and she is before the wife of Naaman,

De Siria habían salido bandas armadas que se llevaron cautiva de la tierra de Israel a una muchacha, la cual se quedó al servicio de la mujer de Naamán.

3 a nd she saith unto her mistress, `O that my lord before the prophet who in Samaria; then he doth recover him from his leprosy.'

Ésta dijo a su señora: —Si rogara mi señor al profeta que está en Samaria, él lo sanaría de su lepra.

4 A nd goeth in and declareth to his lord, saying, `Thus and thus she hath spoken, the damsel who from the land of Israel.'

Naamán fue y se lo relató a su señor diciendo: «Esto y esto ha dicho una muchacha que es de la tierra de Israel.»

5 A nd the king of Aram saith, `Go thou, enter, and I send a letter unto the king of Israel;' and he goeth and taketh in his hand ten talents of silver, and six thousand of gold, and ten changes of garments.

Y el rey de Siria le respondió: —Está bien, ve y yo enviaré una carta al rey de Israel. Salió, pues, Naamán, llevando consigo diez talentos de plata, seis mil piezas de oro y diez mudas de vestidos,

6 A nd he bringeth in the letter unto the king of Israel, saying, `And now, at the coming in of this letter unto thee, lo, I have sent unto thee Naaman my servant, and thou hast recovered him from his leprosy.'

y también le llevó al rey de Israel una carta que decía: «Cuando recibas esta carta, sabrás por ella que yo te envío a mi siervo Naamán para que lo sanes de su lepra.»

7 A nd it cometh to pass, at the king of Israel's reading the letter, that he rendeth his garments, and saith, `Am I God, to put to death and to keep alive, that this is sending unto me to recover a man from his leprosy? for surely know, I pray you, and see, for he is presenting himself to me.'

Luego que el rey de Israel leyó la carta, rasgó sus vestidos y dijo: «¿Acaso soy yo Dios, que da vida y la quita, para que éste me envíe a un hombre a que lo sane de su lepra? Considerad ahora y ved cómo busca ocasión contra mí.»

8 A nd it cometh to pass, at Elisha the man of God's hearing that the king of Israel hath rent his garments, that he sendeth unto the king, saying, `Why hast thou rent thy garments? let him come, I pray thee, unto me, and he doth know that there is a prophet in Israel.'

Cuando Eliseo, el varón de Dios, oyó que el rey de Israel había rasgado sus vestidos, envió a decir al rey: «¿Por qué has rasgado tus vestidos? Que venga a mí y sabrá que hay un profeta en Israel.»

9 A nd Naaman cometh, with his horses and with his chariot, and standeth at the opening of the house for Elisha;

Llegó Naamán con sus caballos y su carro y se paró a las puertas de la casa de Eliseo.

10 a nd Elisha sendeth unto him a messenger, saying, `Go, and thou hast washed seven times in Jordan, and thy flesh doth turn back to thee -- and be thou clean.

Entonces Eliseo le envió un mensajero a decirle: «Ve y lávate siete veces en el Jordán; tu carne se restaurará y serás limpio.»

11 A nd Naaman is wroth, and goeth on, and saith, `Lo, I said, Unto me he doth certainly come out, and hath stood and called in the name of Jehovah his God, and waved his hand over the place, and recovered the leper.

Naamán se fue enojado diciendo: «Yo que pensaba: “De seguro saldrá enseguida, y puesto en pie invocará el nombre de Jehová, su Dios, alzará su mano, tocará la parte enferma y sanará la lepra.”

12 A re not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? do I not wash in them and I have been clean?' and he turneth and goeth on in fury.

Abana y Farfar, ríos de Damasco, ¿no son mejores que todas las aguas de Israel? Si me lavo en ellos, ¿no quedaré limpio también?» Y muy enojado se fue de allí.

13 A nd his servants come nigh, and speak unto him, and say, `My father, a great thing had the prophet spoken unto thee -- dost thou not do ? and surely, when he hath said unto thee, Wash, and be clean.'

Pero sus criados se le acercaron y le dijeron: —Padre mío, si el profeta te mandara hacer algo difícil, ¿no lo harías? ¿Cuánto más si sólo te ha dicho: “Lávate y serás limpio”?

14 A nd he goeth down and dippeth in Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh doth turn back as the flesh of a little youth, and is clean.

Descendió entonces Naamán y se zambulló siete veces en el Jordán, conforme a la palabra del varón de Dios, y su carne se volvió como la carne de un niño, y quedó limpio.

15 A nd he turneth back unto the man of God, he and all his camp, and cometh in, and standeth before him, and saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have known that there is not a God in all the earth except in Israel; and now, take, I pray thee, a blessing from thy servant.'

Luego volvió con todos sus acompañantes adonde estaba el hombre de Dios, se presentó delante de él y le dijo: —Ahora conozco que no hay Dios en toda la tierra, sino en Israel. Te ruego que recibas un presente de tu siervo.

16 A nd he saith, `Jehovah liveth, before whom I have stood -- if I take;' and he presseth on him to take, and he refuseth.

Pero él dijo: —¡Vive Jehová, en cuya presencia estoy!, que no lo aceptaré. Y aunque le instaba a que aceptara alguna cosa, Eliseo no quiso.

17 A nd Naaman saith, `If not -- let be given, I pray thee, to thy servant, a couple of mules' burden of earth, for thy servant doth make no more burnt-offering and sacrifice to other gods, but to Jehovah.

Entonces Naamán dijo: —Te ruego, pues, ¿no se dará a tu siervo de esta tierra la carga de un par de mulas? Porque de aquí en adelante tu siervo no sacrificará holocausto ni ofrecerá sacrificio a otros dioses, sino a Jehová.

18 F or this thing Jehovah be propitious to thy servant, in the coming in of my lord into the house of Rimmon to bow himself there, and he was supported by my hand, and I bowed myself the house of Rimmon; for my bowing myself in the house of Rimmon Jehovah be propitious, I pray thee, to thy servant in this thing.'

En esto perdone Jehová a tu siervo: cuando mi señor, el rey, entre en el templo de Rimón para adorar allí, y se apoye sobre mi brazo, si yo también me inclino en el templo de Rimón, si hago tal cosa, que Jehová perdone en esto a tu siervo.

19 A nd he saith to him, `Go in peace.' And he goeth from him a kibrath of land,

Eliseo le respondió: —Ve en paz. Se fue, pues, y caminó como media legua de tierra.

20 A nd Gehazi, servant of Elisha the man of God, saith, `Lo, my lord hath spared Naaman this Aramaean, not to receive from his hand that which he brought; Jehovah liveth; surely if I have run after him, then I have taken from him something.'

Entonces Giezi, criado de Eliseo, el varón de Dios, pensó: «Mi señor ha dejado marchar a este sirio, Naamán, sin aceptar de sus manos las cosas que había traído. ¡Vive Jehová, que correré tras él a ver si obtengo alguna cosa!»

21 A nd Gehazi pursueth after Naaman, and Naaman seeth one running after him, and alighteth from off the chariot to meet him, and saith, `Is there peace?'

Siguió Giezi a Naamán, y cuando Naamán vio que venía corriendo detrás de él, se bajó del carro para recibirlo, y le preguntó: —¿Va todo bien?

22 A nd he saith, `Peace; my lord hath sent me, saying, Lo, now, this, come unto me have two young men from the hill-country of Ephraim, of the sons of the prophets; give, I pray thee, to them, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.'

—Todo bien —respondió él—. Pero mi señor me envía a decirte: “Acaban de venir a verme de los montes de Efraín dos jóvenes de los hijos de los profetas; te ruego que les des un talento de plata y dos vestidos nuevos.”

23 A nd Naaman saith, `Be pleased, take two talents;' and he urgeth on him, and bindeth two talents of silver in two purses, and two changes of garments, and giveth unto two of his young men, and they bear before him;

Naamán dijo: —Toma, por favor, los dos talentos. Le insistió y ató los dos talentos de plata en dos bolsas, junto con dos vestidos nuevos, y lo dio todo a dos de sus criados para que lo llevaran a cuestas delante de Giezi.

24 a nd he cometh in unto the high place, and taketh out of their hand, and layeth up in the house, and sendeth away the men, and they go.

Cuando llegó a un lugar secreto, lo tomó de manos de ellos y lo guardó en la casa. Luego mandó a los hombres que se fueran.

25 A nd he hath come in, and doth stand by his lord, and Elisha saith unto him, `Whence -- Gehazi?' and he saith, `Thy servant went not hither or thither.'

Entonces entró y se presentó ante su señor. Eliseo le dijo: —¿De dónde vienes, Giezi? —Tu siervo no ha ido a ninguna parte —respondió él.

26 A nd he saith unto him, `My heart went not when the man turned from off his chariot to meet thee; is it a time to take silver, and to take garments, and olives, and vines, and flock, and herd, and men-servants, and maid-servants?

Pero Eliseo insistió: —Cuando aquel hombre descendió de su carro para recibirte, ¿no estaba también allí mi corazón? ¿Acaso es tiempo de tomar plata y tomar vestidos, olivares, viñas, ovejas, bueyes, siervos y siervas?

27 y ea, the leprosy of Naaman doth cleave to thee, and to thy seed, -- to the age;' and he goeth out from before him -- leprous as snow.

Por tanto, la lepra de Naamán se te pegará a ti y a tu descendencia para siempre. Y salió de su presencia leproso, blanco como la nieve.
