1 A nd the men of Ephraim are called together, and pass over northward, and say to Jephthah, `Wherefore has thou passed over to fight against the Bene-Ammon, and on us hast not called to go with thee? thy house we burn over thee with fire.'

Los hombres de la tribu de Efraín se reunieron, pasaron hacia el norte y dijeron a Jefté: —¿Por qué fuiste a hacer guerra contra los hijos de Amón, y no nos llamaste para que fuéramos contigo? ¡Quemaremos ahora tu casa contigo dentro!

2 A nd Jephthah saith unto them, `A man of great strife I have been (I and my people) with the Bene-Ammon, and I call you, and ye have not saved me out of their hand,

Jefté les respondió: —Yo y mi pueblo teníamos una gran contienda con los hijos de Amón; os llamé, pero no me defendisteis de ellos.

3 a nd I see that thou art not a saviour, and I put my life in my hand, and pass over unto the Bene-Ammon, and Jehovah giveth them into my hand -- and why have ye come up unto me this day to fight against me?'

Viendo, pues, que no me defendíais, arriesgué mi vida, ataqué a los hijos de Amón, y Jehová me los entregó. ¿Por qué, pues, habéis subido hoy para pelear conmigo?

4 A nd Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fighteth with Ephraim, and the men of Gilead smite Ephraim, because they said, `Fugitives of Ephraim ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim -- in the midst of Manasseh.'

Entonces reunió Jefté a todos los hombres de Galaad y peleó contra Efraín. Y los de Galaad derrotaron a Efraín, porque habían dicho: «Vosotros sois fugitivos de Efraín, vosotros los galaaditas, que habitáis entre Efraín y Manasés.»

5 A nd Gilead captureth the passages of the Jordan to Ephraim, and it hath been, when the fugitives of Ephraim say, `Let me pass over,' and the men of Gilead say to him, `An Ephramite thou?' and he saith, `No;'

Los galaaditas tomaron los vados del Jordán a los de Efraín, y cuando los fugitivos de Efraín llegaban y decían: —Quiero pasar, los de Galaad les preguntaban: —¿Eres tú efrateo? Si él respondía que no,

6 t hat they say to him, `Say, I pray thee, Shibboleth;' and he saith, `Sibboleth,' and is not prepared to speak right -- and they seize him, and slaughter him at the passages of the Jordan, and there fall at that time, of Ephraim, forty and two chiefs.

entonces le decían: —Ahora, pues, di “Shibolet”. Si decía “Sibolet”, porque no podía pronunciarlo correctamente, le echaban mano y lo degollaban junto a los vados del Jordán. Así murieron cuarenta y dos mil de los de Efraín.

7 A nd Jephthah judged Israel six years, and Jephthah the Gileadite dieth, and is buried in the cities of Gilead.

Jefté juzgó a Israel seis años. Murió Jefté, el galaadita, y fue sepultado en una de las ciudades de Galaad. Ibzán, Elón y Abdón, jueces de Israel

8 A nd after him Ibzan of Beth-Lehem judgeth Israel,

Después de él juzgó a Israel Ibzán, de Belén,

9 a nd he hath thirty sons and thirty daughters, he hath sent without and thirty daughters hath brought in to his sons from without; and he judgeth Israel seven years.

quien tuvo treinta hijos y treinta hijas, las cuales casó con gente de fuera, y tomó de fuera treinta hijas para sus hijos. Juzgó a Israel siete años.

10 A nd Ibzan dieth, and is buried in Beth-Lehem.

Murió Ibzán y fue sepultado en Belén.

11 A nd after him Elon the Zebulunite judgeth Israel, and he judgeth Israel ten years,

Después de él juzgó a Israel Elón, el zabulonita, quien juzgó a Israel diez años.

12 a nd Elon the Zebulunite dieth, and is buried in Aijalon, in the land of Zebulun.

Murió Elón, el zabulonita, y fue sepultado en Ajalón, en la tierra de Zabulón.

13 A nd after him, Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, judgeth Israel,

Después de él juzgó a Israel Abdón hijo de Hilel, el piratonita.

14 a nd he hath forty sons, and thirty grandsons, riding on seventy ass-colts, and he judgeth Israel eight years.

Éste tuvo cuarenta hijos y treinta nietos que cabalgaban sobre setenta asnos. Juzgó a Israel ocho años.

15 A nd Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, dieth, and is buried in Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekite.

Murió Abdón hijo de Hilel piratonita y fue sepultado en Piratón, en la tierra de Efraín, en el monte de Amalec.
