1 A nd Elihu addeth and saith: --

Eliú siguió diciendo:

2 H onour me a little, and I shew thee, That yet for God words.

«Espérame un poco y yo te instruiré, porque todavía tengo razones en defensa de Dios.

3 I lift up my knowledge from afar, And to my Maker I ascribe righteousness.

Traeré mi saber desde lejos para atribuir justicia a mi Hacedor.

4 F or, truly, my words not false, The perfect in knowledge with thee.

Porque de cierto no son mentira mis palabras: ¡Contigo está uno que es íntegro en sus conceptos!

5 L o, God mighty, and despiseth not, Mighty power heart.

»Dios es grande, pero no desestima a nadie. Es poderosa la fuerza de su sabiduría.

6 H e reviveth not the wicked, And the judgment of the poor appointeth;

No concede vida al impío, pero a los afligidos otorga sus derechos.

7 H e withdraweth not from the righteous His eyes, And kings on the throne, And causeth them to sit for ever, and they are high,

No aparta sus ojos de los justos; antes bien, con los reyes los sienta en trono y los exalta para siempre.

8 A nd if prisoners in fetters They are captured with cords of affliction,

Aun si estuvieran sujetos con grillos, aprisionados con cuerdas de aflicción,

9 T hen He declareth to them their work, And their transgressions, Because they have become mighty,

él les daría a conocer las obras que hicieron y cómo prevalecieron sus rebeliones.

10 A nd He uncovereth their ear for instruction, And saith that they turn back from iniquity.

Les despierta además los oídos a la corrección y los exhorta a convertirse de la iniquidad.

11 I f they do hear and serve, They complete their days in good, And their years in pleasantness.

Si ellos escuchan y le sirven, acabarán sus días con bienestar y sus años con dicha.

12 A nd if they do not hearken, By the dart they pass away, And expire without knowledge.

Pero si no escuchan, serán pasados a espada y perecerán en su falta de sabiduría.

13 A nd the profane in heart set the face, They cry not when He hath bound them.

»Los hipócritas de corazón atesoran para sí la ira y no clamarán cuando él los ate.

14 T heir soul dieth in youth, And their life among the defiled.

Fallecerá el alma de ellos en su juventud y su vida entre los sodomitas.

15 H e draweth out the afflicted in his affliction, And uncovereth in oppression their ear.

Al pobre librará él de su pobreza; en la aflicción despertará su oído.

16 A nd also He moved thee from a strait place, a broad place -- no straitness under it, And the sitting beyond of thy table Hath been full of fatness.

Y también a ti te apartará de la boca de la angustia a un lugar espacioso, libre de todo agobio, y te preparará una mesa llena de manjares.

17 A nd the judgment of the wicked thou hast fulfilled, Judgment and justice are upheld -- because of fury,

Mas tú te has llenado del juicio del impío, en vez de sustentar el derecho y la justicia.

18 L est He move thee with a stroke, And the abundance of an atonement turn thee not aside.

Por eso teme, no sea que él, en su ira, te quite con un golpe que no puedas evitar ni aun pagando un gran rescate.

19 D oth He value thy riches? He hath gold, and all the forces of power.

¿Acaso hará él aprecio del oro, de tus riquezas o de todo gran poderío?

20 D esire not the night, For the going up of peoples in their stead.

No anheles la noche, cuando los pueblos desaparecen de su lugar.

21 T ake heed -- do not turn unto iniquity, For on this thou hast fixed Rather than affliction.

Guárdate de volver a la iniquidad, la cual escogiste más bien que la aflicción.

22 L o, God doth sit on high by His power, Who like Him -- a teacher?

Dios es excelso en su poder; ¿Qué maestro es semejante a él?

23 W ho hath appointed unto Him his way? And who said, `Thou hast done iniquity?'

¿Quién le ha trazado su camino? ¿Quién le dirá: “Eso lo has hecho mal”?

24 R emember that thou magnify His work That men have beheld.

»Acuérdate de enaltecer su obra, la cual los hombres contemplan.

25 A ll men have looked on it, Man looketh attentively from afar.

Todos ellos la ven; la mira el hombre desde lejos.

26 L o, God high, And we know not the number of His years, Yea, there no searching.

Dios es grande y nosotros no lo conocemos, ni es posible seguir el curso de sus años.

27 W hen He doth diminish droppings of the waters, They refine rain according to its vapour,

Él atrae las gotas de agua cuando el vapor se transforma en lluvia,

28 W hich clouds do drop, They distil on man abundantly.

la que destilan las nubes, y se vierte en raudales sobre los hombres.

29 Y ea, doth understand The spreadings out of a cloud? The noises of His tabernacle?

¿Quién podrá comprender cómo se expanden las nubes y el sonido atronador de su morada?

30 L o, He hath spread over it His light, And the roots of the sea He hath covered,

Sobre él extiende su luz y cubre con ella las profundidades del mar.

31 F or by them He doth judge peoples, He giveth food in abundance.

Bien que por tales medios castiga a los pueblos, también los sustenta con abundancia.

32 B y two palms He hath covered the light, And layeth a charge over it in meeting,

Con las nubes encubre la luz; las interpone y le manda que no brille.

33 H e sheweth by it his friend substance, Anger against perversity.

Con el trueno declara su indignación y la tempestad proclama su ira contra la iniquidad.
