1 A nd Elihu answereth and saith: --

Prosiguió Eliú su razonamiento y dijo:

2 T his hast thou reckoned for judgment: Thou hast said -- `My righteousness more than God's?'

«¿Piensas que ha sido correcto decir: “Más justo soy yo que Dios”?

3 F or thou sayest, `What doth it profit Thee! What do I profit from my sin?'

Porque tú dices: “¿Qué ventaja sacaré de ello? ¿O qué provecho tendré de no haber pecado?”

4 I return thee words, and thy friends with thee,

Pues yo te responderé con razones, y a tus compañeros contigo.

5 B ehold attentively the heavens -- and see, And behold the clouds, They have been higher than thou.

Mira a los cielos. Contémplalos y considera que las nubes están más altas que tú.

6 I f thou hast sinned, what dost thou against Him? And thy transgressions have been multiplied, What dost thou to Him?

Si pecas, ¿qué habrás logrado contra él? Si tus rebeliones se multiplican, ¿qué le harás tú?

7 I f thou hast been righteous, What dost thou give to Him? Or what from thy hand doth He receive?

Y si eres justo, ¿qué le darás a él? ¿O qué recibirá de tu mano?

8 F or a man like thyself thy wickedness, And for a son of man thy righteousness.

A un hombre como tú lo daña tu impiedad; y a un hijo de hombre le es provechosa tu justicia.

9 B ecause of the multitude of oppressions They cause to cry out, They cry because of the arm of the mighty.

»Claman a causa de las muchas violencias y se lamentan por el poder de los grandes.

10 A nd none said, `Where God my maker? Giving songs in the night,

Pero nadie dice: “¿Dónde está Dios, mi Hacedor, que llena de cánticos la noche,

11 T eaching us more than the beasts of the earth, Yea, than the fowl of the heavens He maketh us wiser.'

que nos enseña más que a las bestias de la tierra y más sabios nos hace que a las aves del cielo?”

12 T here they cry, and He doth not answer, Because of the pride of evil doers.

Allí claman, pero él no escucha, a causa de la soberbia de los malos.

13 S urely vanity God doth not hear, And the Mighty doth not behold it.

Ciertamente Dios no escucha lo que es vanidad; ni siquiera lo mira el Omnipotente.

14 Y ea, though thou sayest thou dost not behold Him, Judgment before Him, and stay for Him.

¿Cuánto menos, pues, cuando dices que no haces caso de él? Tu causa está delante de él. Por tanto, aguárdalo.

15 A nd, now, because there is not, He hath appointed His anger, And He hath not known in great extremity.

Mas ahora, porque en su ira no castiga ni inquiere con rigor,

16 A nd Job vanity doth open his mouth, Without knowledge words he multiplieth.

por eso abre Job su boca en vano y multiplica palabras sin sabiduría.»
