1 A nd Elihu answereth and saith: --

Y PROCEDIENDO Eliú en su razonamiento, dijo:

2 T his hast thou reckoned for judgment: Thou hast said -- `My righteousness more than God's?'

¿Piensas ser conforme á derecho Esto que dijiste: Más justo soy yo que Dios?

3 F or thou sayest, `What doth it profit Thee! What do I profit from my sin?'

Porque dijiste: ¿Qué ventaja sacarás tú de ello? ¿O qué provecho tendré de mi pecado?

4 I return thee words, and thy friends with thee,

Yo te responderé razones, Y á tus compañeros contigo.

5 B ehold attentively the heavens -- and see, And behold the clouds, They have been higher than thou.

Mira á los cielos, y ve, Y considera que las nubes son más altas que tú.

6 I f thou hast sinned, what dost thou against Him? And thy transgressions have been multiplied, What dost thou to Him?

Si pecares, ¿qué habrás hecho contra él? Y si tus rebeliones se multiplicaren, ¿qué le harás tú?

7 I f thou hast been righteous, What dost thou give to Him? Or what from thy hand doth He receive?

Si fueres justo, ¿qué le darás á el? ¿O qué recibirá de tu mano?

8 F or a man like thyself thy wickedness, And for a son of man thy righteousness.

Al hombre como tú dañará tu impiedad, Y al hijo del hombre aprovechará tu justicia.

9 B ecause of the multitude of oppressions They cause to cry out, They cry because of the arm of the mighty.

A causa de la multitud de las violencias clamarán, Y se lamentarán por el poderío de los grandes.

10 A nd none said, `Where God my maker? Giving songs in the night,

Y ninguno dice: ¿Dónde está Dios mi Hacedor, Que da canciones en la noche,

11 T eaching us more than the beasts of the earth, Yea, than the fowl of the heavens He maketh us wiser.'

Que nos enseña más que á las bestias de la tierra, Y nos hace sabios más que las aves del cielo?

12 T here they cry, and He doth not answer, Because of the pride of evil doers.

Allí clamarán, y él no oirá, Por la soberbia de los malos.

13 S urely vanity God doth not hear, And the Mighty doth not behold it.

Ciertamente Dios no oirá la vanidad, Ni la mirará el Omnipotente.

14 Y ea, though thou sayest thou dost not behold Him, Judgment before Him, and stay for Him.

Aunque más digas, No lo mirará; Haz juicio delante de él, y en él espera.

15 A nd, now, because there is not, He hath appointed His anger, And He hath not known in great extremity.

Mas ahora, porque en su ira no visita, Ni conoce con rigor,

16 A nd Job vanity doth open his mouth, Without knowledge words he multiplieth.

Por eso Job abrió su boca vanamente, Y multiplica palabras sin sabiduría.
