1 I n like manner, the wives, be ye subject to your own husbands, that even if certain are disobedient to the word, through the conversation of the wives, without the word, they may be won,

ASIMISMO vosotras, mujeres, sed sujetas á vuestros maridos; para que también los que no creen á la palabra, sean ganados sin palabra por la conversación de sus mujeres,

2 h aving beheld your pure behaviour in fear,

Considerando vuestra casta conversación, que es en temor.

3 w hose adorning -- let it not be that which is outward, of plaiting of hair, and of putting around of things of gold, or of putting on of garments,

El adorno de las cuales no sea exterior con encrespamiento del cabello, y atavío de oro, ni en compostura de ropas;

4 b ut -- the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible thing of the meek and quiet spirit, which is, before God, of great price,

Sino el hombre del corazón que está encubierto, en incorruptible ornato de espíritu agradable y pacífico, lo cual es de grande estima delante de Dios.

5 f or thus once also the holy women who did hope on God, were adorning themselves, being subject to their own husbands,

Porque así también se ataviaban en el tiempo antiguo aquellas santas mujeres que esperaban en Dios, siendo sujetas á sus maridos:

6 a s Sarah was obedient to Abraham, calling him `sir,' of whom ye did become daughters, doing good, and not fearing any terror.

Como Sara obedecía á Abraham, llamándole señor; de la cual vosotras sois hechas hijas, haciendo bien, y no sois espantadas de ningún pavor.

7 T he husbands, in like manner, dwelling with, according to knowledge, as to a weaker vessel -- to the wife -- imparting honour, as also being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered.

Vosotros maridos, semejantemente, habitad con ellas según ciencia, dando honor á la mujer como á vaso más frágil, y como á herederas juntamente de la gracia de la vida; para que vuestras oraciones no sean impedidas.

8 A nd finally, being all of one mind, having fellow-feeling, loving as brethren, compassionate, courteous,

Y finalmente, sed todos de un mismo corazón, compasivos, amándoos fraternalmente, misericordiosos, amigables;

9 n ot giving back evil for evil, or railing for railing, and on the contrary, blessing, having known that to this ye were called, that a blessing ye may inherit;

No volviendo mal por mal, ni maldición por maldición, sino antes por el contrario, bendiciendo; sabiendo que vosotros sois llamados para que poseáis bendición en herencia.

10 f or `he who is willing to love life, and to see good days, let him guard his tongue from evil, and his lips -- not to speak guile;

Porque El que quiere amar la vida, Y ver días buenos, Refrene su lengua de mal, Y sus labios no hablen engaño;

11 l et him turn aside from evil, and do good, let him seek peace and pursue it;

Apártase del mal, y haga bien; Busque la paz, y sígala.

12 b ecause the eyes of the Lord upon the righteous, and His ears -- to their supplication, and the face of the Lord upon those doing evil;'

Porque los ojos del Señor están sobre los justos, Y sus oídos atentos á sus oraciones: Pero el rostro del Señor está sobre aquellos que hacen mal.

13 a nd who he who will be doing you evil, if of Him who is good ye may become imitators?

¿Y quién es aquel que os podrá dañar, si vosotros seguís el bien?

14 b ut if ye also should suffer because of righteousness, happy! and of their fear be not afraid, nor be troubled,

Mas también si alguna cosa padecéis por hacer bien, sois bienaventurados. Por tanto, no temáis por el temor de ellos, ni seáis turbados;

15 a nd the Lord God sanctify in your hearts. And ready always for defence to every one who is asking of you an account concerning the hope that in you, with meekness and fear;

Sino santificad al Señor Dios en vuestros corazones, y estad siempre aparejados para responder con masedumbre y reverencia á cada uno que os demande razón de la esperanza que hay en vosotros:

16 h aving a good conscience, that in that in which they speak against you as evil-doers, they may be ashamed who are traducing your good behaviour in Christ;

Teniendo buena conciencia, para que en lo que murmuran de vosotros como de malhechores, sean confundidos los que blasfeman vuestra buena conversación en Cristo.

17 f or better doing good, if the will of God will it, to suffer, than doing evil;

Porque mejor es que padezcáis haciendo bien, si la voluntad de Dios así lo quiere, que haciendo mal.

18 b ecause also Christ once for sin did suffer -- righteous for unrighteous -- that he might lead us to God, having been put to death indeed, in the flesh, and having been made alive in the spirit,

Porque también Cristo padeció una vez por los injustos, para llevarnos á Dios, siendo á la verdad muerto en la carne, pero vivificado en espíritu;

19 i n which also to the spirits in prison having gone he did preach,

En el cual también fué y predicó á los espíritus encarcelados;

20 w ho sometime disbelieved, when once the long-suffering of God did wait, in days of Noah -- an ark being preparing -- in which few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water;

Los cuales en otro tiempo fueron desobedientes, cuando una vez esperaba la paciencia de Dios en los días de Noé, cuando se aparejaba el arca; en la cual pocas, es á saber, ocho personas fueron salvas por agua.

21 a lso to which an antitype doth now save us -- baptism, (not a putting away of the filth of flesh, but the question of a good conscience in regard to God,) through the rising again of Jesus Christ,

A la figura de la cual el bautismo que ahora corresponde nos salva (no quitando las inmundicias de la carne, sino como demanda de una buena conciencia delante de Dios,) por la resurrección de Jesucristo:

22 w ho is at the right hand of God, having gone on to heaven -- messengers, and authorities, and powers, having been subjected to him.

El cual está á la diestra de Dios, habiendo subido al cielo; estando á él sujetos los ángeles, y las potestades, y virtudes.
