1 A nd concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that we all have knowledge: knowledge puffeth up, but love buildeth up;

En cuanto a lo sacrificado a los ídolos, sabemos que todos tenemos el debido conocimiento. El conocimiento envanece, pero el amor edifica.

2 a nd if any one doth think to know anything, he hath not yet known anything according as it behoveth to know;

Y si alguno se imagina que sabe algo, aún no sabe nada como debería saberlo.

3 a nd if any one doth love God, this one hath been known by Him.

Pero si alguno ama a Dios, es conocido por él.

4 C oncerning the eating then of the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that an idol nothing in the world, and that there is no other God except one;

Acerca, pues, de los alimentos que se sacrifican a los ídolos, sabemos que un ídolo nada es en el mundo, y que no hay más que un Dios.

5 f or even if there are those called gods, whether in heaven, whether upon earth -- as there are gods many and lords many --

Aunque haya algunos que se llamen dioses, sea en el cielo o en la tierra (como hay muchos dioses y muchos señores),

6 y et to us one God, the Father, of whom the all things, and we to Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom the all things, and we through Him;

para nosotros, sin embargo, sólo hay un Dios, el Padre, del cual proceden todas las cosas y para quien nosotros existimos; y un Señor, Jesucristo, por medio del cual han sido creadas todas las cosas y por quien nosotros también existimos.

7 b ut not in all men the knowledge, and certain with conscience of the idol, till now, as a thing sacrificed to an idol do eat, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

Pero no en todos hay este conocimiento, pues algunos, habituados hasta aquí a la idolatría, comen como si el alimento fuera sacrificado a ídolos, y su conciencia, que es débil, se contamina,

8 B ut victuals do not commend us to God, for neither if we may eat are we in advance; nor if we may not eat, are we behind;

si bien la vianda no nos hace más aceptos ante Dios, pues ni porque comamos seremos más, ni porque no comamos seremos menos.

9 b ut see, lest this privilege of yours may become a stumbling-block to the infirm,

Pero procurad que esta libertad vuestra no venga a ser tropezadero para los débiles,

10 f or if any one may see thee that hast knowledge in an idol's temple reclining at meat -- shall not his conscience -- he being infirm -- be emboldened to eat the things sacrificed to idols,

porque si alguien te ve a ti, que tienes conocimiento, sentado a la mesa en un lugar dedicado a los ídolos, la conciencia de aquél, que es débil, ¿no será estimulada a comer de lo sacrificado a los ídolos?

11 a nd the brother who is infirm shall perish by thy knowledge, because of whom Christ died?

Y así, por tu conocimiento, se perderá el hermano débil por quien Cristo murió.

12 a nd thus sinning in regard to the brethren, and smiting their weak conscience -- in regard to Christ ye sin;

De esta manera, pues, pecando contra los hermanos e hiriendo su débil conciencia, contra Cristo pecáis.

13 w herefore, if victuals cause my brother to stumble, I may eat no flesh -- to the age -- that my brother I may not cause to stumble.

Por lo cual, si la comida le es a mi hermano ocasión de caer, no comeré carne jamás, para no poner tropiezo a mi hermano.
