1 A nd Dinah, daughter of Leah, whom she hath borne to Jacob, goeth out to look on the daughters of the land,

Dina, la hija que Lea había dado a luz a Jacob, salió a ver a las hijas del país.

2 a nd Shechem, son of Hamor the Hivite, a prince of the land, seeth her, and taketh her, and lieth with her, and humbleth her;

Y la vio Siquem hijo de Hamor, el heveo, príncipe de aquella tierra; la tomó, se acostó con ella y la deshonró.

3 a nd his soul cleaveth to Dinah, daughter of Jacob, and he loveth the young person, and speaketh unto the heart of the young person.

Pero su alma se apegó a Dina, la hija de Lea; se enamoró de la joven y habló a su corazón.

4 A nd Shechem speaketh unto Hamor his father, saying, `Take for me this damsel for a wife.'

Entonces dijo Siquem a Hamor, su padre: —Tómame por mujer a esta joven.

5 A nd Jacob hath heard that he hath defiled Dinah his daughter, and his sons were with his cattle in the field, and Jacob kept silent till their coming.

Se enteró Jacob de que Siquem había deshonrado a Dina, su hija. Sus hijos estaban con su ganado en el campo, y calló Jacob hasta que ellos regresaran.

6 A nd Hamor, father of Shechem, goeth out unto Jacob to speak with him;

Mientras tanto, Hamor, el padre de Siquem, se dirigió a Jacob para hablar con él.

7 a nd the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard, and the men grieve themselves, and it very displeasing to them, for folly he hath done against Israel, to lie with the daughter of Jacob -- and so it is not done.

Los hijos de Jacob regresaron del campo cuando lo supieron; se entristecieron los hombres y se enojaron mucho, porque se había cometido una ofensa contra Israel al acostarse con la hija de Jacob, lo que no se debía haber hecho.

8 A nd Hamor speaketh with them, saying, `Shechem, my son, his soul hath cleaved to your daughter; give her, I pray you, to him for a wife,

Hamor habló con ellos, y les dijo: —El alma de mi hijo Siquem se ha apegado a vuestra hija; os ruego que se la deis por mujer.

9 a nd join ye in marriage with us; your daughters ye give to us, and our daughters ye take to yourselves,

Emparentad con nosotros, dadnos vuestras hijas y tomad vosotros las nuestras.

10 a nd with us ye dwell, and the land is before you; dwell ye and trade it, and have possessions in it.'

Habitad con nosotros, porque la tierra estará delante de vosotros; morad y negociad en ella, y tomad en ella posesión.

11 A nd Shechem saith unto her father, and unto her brethren, `Let me find grace in your eyes, and that which ye say unto me, I give;

Siquem dijo también al padre y a los hermanos de Dina: —Halle yo gracia en vuestros ojos y os daré lo que me pidáis.

12 m ultiply on me exceedingly dowry and gift, and I give as ye say unto me, and give to me the young person for a wife.'

Aumentad a mi cargo mucha dote y regalos, que yo os daré cuanto me pidáis; pero dadme la joven por mujer.

13 A nd the sons of Jacob answer Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and they speak (because he defiled Dinah their sister),

Los hijos de Jacob respondieron a Siquem y a Hamor, su padre, con palabras engañosas, por cuanto había deshonrado a Dina, hermana de ellos.

14 a nd say unto them, `We are not able to do this thing, to give our sister to one who hath a foreskin: for it a reproach to us.

Les dijeron: —No podemos hacer esto de dar nuestra hermana a hombre incircunciso, porque entre nosotros es abominación.

15 ` Only for this we consent to you; if ye be as we, to have every male of you circumcised,

Pero con esta condición os complaceremos: que os hagáis como nosotros, y se circuncide entre vosotros todo varón.

16 t hen we have given our daughters to you, and your daughters we take to ourselves, and we have dwelt with you, and have become one people;

Entonces os daremos nuestras hijas, y tomaremos nosotros las vuestras; habitaremos con vosotros y seremos un pueblo.

17 a nd if ye hearken not unto us to be circumcised, then we have taken our daughter, and have gone.'

Pero si no nos prestáis oído en lo de circuncidaros, tomaremos nuestra hija y nos iremos.

18 A nd their words are good in the eyes of Hamor, and in the eyes of Shechem, Hamor's son;

Parecieron bien sus palabras a Hamor y a Siquem hijo de Hamor.

19 a nd the young man delayed not to do the thing, for he had delight in Jacob's daughter, and he is honourable above all the house of his father.

Y no tardó el joven en hacer aquello, porque la hija de Jacob le había agradado. Él mismo era el más distinguido en toda la casa de su padre.

20 A nd Hamor cometh -- Shechem his son also -- unto the gate of their city, and they speak unto the men of their city, saying,

Entonces Hamor y su hijo Siquem fueron a la puerta de su ciudad y hablaron a los hombres del lugar, diciéndoles:

21 ` These men are peaceable with us; then let them dwell in the land, and trade it; and the land, lo, wide before them; their daughters let us take to ourselves for wives, and our daughters give to them.

—Estos hombres son pacíficos con nosotros; que habiten, pues, en el país y comercien en él, porque la tierra es bastante ancha para ellos; nosotros tomaremos sus hijas por mujeres y les daremos las nuestras.

22 ` Only for this do the men consent to us, to dwell with us, to become one people, in every male of us being circumcised, as they are circumcised;

Pero sólo con esta condición consentirán estos hombres en habitar con nosotros para que seamos un pueblo: que se circuncide todo varón entre nosotros, como ellos son circuncidados.

23 t heir cattle, and their substance, and all their beasts -- are they not ours? only let us consent to them, and they dwell with us.'

Su ganado, sus bienes y todas sus bestias serán nuestros; solamente convengamos con ellos, y habitarán con nosotros.

24 A nd unto Hamor, and unto Shechem his son, hearken do all those going out of the gate of his city, and every male is circumcised, all those going out of the gate of his city.

Obedecieron a Hamor y a su hijo Siquem todos los que salían por la puerta de la ciudad, y circuncidaron a todo varón, a cuantos salían por la puerta de su ciudad.

25 A nd it cometh to pass, on the third day, in their being pained, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, take each his sword, and come in against the city confidently, and slay every male;

Pero sucedió que al tercer día, cuando ellos sentían el mayor dolor, dos de los hijos de Jacob, Simeón y Leví, hermanos de Dina, tomaron cada uno su espada, fueron contra la ciudad, que estaba desprevenida, y mataron a todo varón.

26 a nd Hamor, and Shechem his son, they have slain by the mouth of the sword, and they take Dinah out of Shechem's house, and go out.

A filo de espada mataron a Hamor y a su hijo Siquem, y tomando a Dina de casa de Siquem, se fueron.

27 J acob's sons have come in upon the wounded, and they spoil the city, because they had defiled their sister;

Los hijos de Jacob pasaron sobre los muertos y saquearon la ciudad, por cuanto habían deshonrado a su hermana.

28 t heir flock and their herd, and their asses, and that which in the city, and that which in the field, have they taken;

Tomaron sus ovejas, vacas y asnos, lo que había en la ciudad y en el campo,

29 a nd all their wealth, and all their infants, and their wives they have taken captive, and they spoil also all that in the house.

y todos sus bienes; llevaron cautivos a todos sus niños y sus mujeres, y robaron todo lo que había en las casas.

30 A nd Jacob saith unto Simeon and unto Levi, `Ye have troubled me, by causing me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanite, and among the Perizzite: and I few in number, and they have been gathered against me, and have smitten me, and I have been destroyed, I and my house.'

Entonces dijo Jacob a Simeón y a Leví: —Me habéis puesto en un grave aprieto al hacerme odioso a los habitantes de esta tierra, el cananeo y el ferezeo. Como tengo pocos hombres, se juntarán contra mí, me atacarán, y me destruirán a mí y a mi casa.

31 A nd they say, `As a harlot doth he make our sister?'

Pero ellos respondieron: —¿Acaso tenía él que tratar a nuestra hermana como a una ramera?
