1 T hus said Jehovah: `Where this -- the bill of your mother's divorce, Whom I sent away? Or to which of My creditors have I sold you? Lo, for your iniquities ye have been sold, And for your transgressions Hath your mother been sent away.

Así dijo Jehová: «¿Qué es de la carta de repudio de vuestra madre, con la cual yo la repudié? ¿O quiénes son mis acreedores, a quienes yo os he vendido? He aquí que por vuestras maldades habéis sido vendidos y por vuestras rebeliones fue repudiada vuestra madre.

2 W herefore have I come, and there is no one? I called, and there is none answering, Hath My hand been at all short of redemption? And is there not in me power to deliver? Lo, by My rebuke I dry up a sea, I make rivers a wilderness, Their fish stinketh, for there is no water, And dieth with thirst.

¿Por qué cuando vine no hallé a nadie y cuando llamé nadie respondió? ¿Acaso se ha acortado mi mano para no poderos rescatar? ¿No tengo yo poder para librar? He aquí que con mi reprensión hago secar el mar, convierto los ríos en desierto, y sus peces se pudren por falta de agua y mueren de sed.

3 I clothe the heavens blackness, And sackcloth I make their covering.

Visto de oscuridad los cielos y les pongo saco por cubierta.»

4 T he Lord Jehovah hath given to me The tongue of taught ones, To know to aid the weary a word, He waketh morning by morning, He waketh for me an ear to hear as taught ones.

Jehová el Señor me dio lengua de sabios, para saber hablar palabras al cansado; despertará mañana tras mañana, despertará mi oído para que escuche como los sabios.

5 T he Lord Jehovah opened for me the ear, And I rebelled not -- backward I moved not.

Jehová, el Señor, me abrió el oído, y yo no fui rebelde ni me volví atrás.

6 M y back I have given to those smiting, And my cheeks to those plucking out, My face I hid not from shame and spitting.

Di mi cuerpo a los heridores y mis mejillas a los que me mesaban la barba; no aparté mi rostro de injurias y de esputos.

7 A nd the Lord Jehovah giveth help to me, Therefore I have not been ashamed, Therefore I have set my face as a flint, And I know that I am not ashamed.

Porque Jehová, el Señor, me ayuda, no me avergoncé; por eso he puesto mi rostro como un pedernal, y sé que no seré avergonzado.

8 N ear He who is justifying me, Who doth contend with me? We stand together, who mine opponent? Let him come nigh unto me.

Muy cerca de mí está el que me salva: ¿quién contenderá conmigo? ¡Juntémonos! ¿Quién es el adversario de mi causa? ¡Acérquese a mí!

9 L o, the Lord Jehovah giveth help to me, Who he that declareth me wicked? Lo, all of them as a garment wear out, A moth doth eat them.

He aquí que Jehová el Señor me ayudará: ¿quién podrá condenarme? He aquí que todos ellos se envejecerán como ropa de vestir, serán comidos por la polilla.

10 W ho among you, fearing Jehovah, Hearkening to the voice of His servant, That hath walked in dark places, And there is no brightness for him? Let him trust in the name of Jehovah, And lean upon his God.

¿Quién de entre vosotros teme a Jehová y escucha la voz de su siervo? El que anda en tinieblas y carece de luz, confíe en el nombre de Jehová y apóyese en su Dios.

11 L o, all ye kindling a fire, girding on sparks, Walk ye in the light of your fire, And in the sparks ye have caused to burn, From my hand hath this been to you, In grief ye lie down!

He aquí que todos vosotros encendéis fuego, os rodeáis de teas: pues andad a la luz de vuestro fuego y de las teas que encendisteis. De mi mano os vendrá esto: en dolor seréis sepultados.
