1 A nd draw near do the days of David to die, and he chargeth Solomon his son, saying,

Cuando llegaron los días en que David había de morir, le ordenó a Salomón, su hijo:

2 ` I am going in the way of all the earth, and thou hast been strong, and become a man,

«Yo sigo el camino de todos en la tierra; esfuérzate y sé hombre.

3 a nd kept the charge of Jehovah thy God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commands, and His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, so that thou dost wisely all that thou dost, and whithersoever thou turnest,

Guarda los preceptos de Jehová, tu Dios, andando en sus caminos y observando sus estatutos y mandamientos, sus decretos y sus testimonios, de la manera que está escrito en la ley de Moisés, para que prosperes en todo lo que hagas y en todo aquello que emprendas;

4 s o that Jehovah doth establish His word which He spake unto me, saying, If thy sons observe their way to walk before Me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul; saying, There is not cut off a man of thine from the throne of Israel.

para que confirme Jehová la promesa que me hizo diciendo: “Si tus hijos guardan mi camino andando delante de mí con verdad, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, jamás te faltará un descendiente en el trono de Israel.”

5 ` And also, thou hast known that which he did to me -- Joab son of Zeruiah -- that which he did to two heads of the hosts of Israel, to Abner son of Ner, and to Amasa son of Jether -- that he slayeth them, and maketh the blood of war in peace, and putteth the blood of war in his girdle, that on his loins, and in his sandals that on his feet;

»Ya sabes tú lo que me ha hecho Joab hijo de Sarvia, lo que hizo a dos generales del ejército de Israel, a Abner hijo de Ner y a Amasa hijo de Jeter, cómo los mató, vengando en tiempo de paz la sangre derramada en la guerra, y manchando con sangre de guerra el cinturón que ceñía su cintura y los zapatos que calzaban sus pies.

6 a nd thou hast done according to thy wisdom, and dost not let his old age go down in peace to Sheol.

Tú, pues, harás conforme a tu sabiduría: no dejarás descender en paz sus canas al seol.

7 ` And to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite thou dost do kindness, and they have been among those eating at thy table, for so they drew near unto me in my fleeing from the face of Absalom thy brother.

Pero con los hijos de Barzilai, el galaadita, tendrás misericordia; que sean de los convidados a tu mesa, pues ellos me trataron de esa manera cuando iba huyendo de Absalón, tu hermano.

8 ` And lo, with thee Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite of Bahurim, and he reviled me -- a grievous reviling -- in the day of my going to Mahanaim; and he hath come down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swear to him by Jehovah, saying, I do not put thee to death by the sword;

También tienes contigo a Simei hijo de Gera hijo de Benjamín, de Bahurim, el cual me maldijo con una maldición fuerte el día que yo iba a Mahanaim. Pero él mismo descendió a recibirme al Jordán, y yo le juré por Jehová diciendo: “No te mataré a espada.”

9 a nd now, acquit him not, for a wise man thou, and thou hast known that which thou dost to him, and hast brought down his old age with blood to Sheol.'

Pero ahora no lo absolverás, pues eres un hombre sabio y sabes cómo debes tratarlo para que sus canas desciendan con sangre al seol.» Muerte de David

10 A nd David lieth down with his fathers, and is buried in the city of David,

David durmió con sus padres y fue sepultado en su ciudad.

11 a nd the days that David hath reigned over Israel forty years, in Hebron he hath reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he hath reigned thirty and three years.

Los días que reinó David sobre Israel fueron cuarenta años: siete años reinó en Hebrón y treinta y tres años en Jerusalén.

12 A nd Solomon hath sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom is established greatly,

Salomón se sentó en el trono de David, su padre, y su reino fue muy estable. Salomón afirma su reino

13 a nd Adonijah son of Haggith cometh in unto Bath-Sheba, mother of Solomon, and she saith, `Is thy coming peace?' and he saith, `Peace.'

Entonces Adonías hijo de Haguit fue a ver a Betsabé, madre de Salomón, y ella le dijo: —¿Vienes en son de paz? —Sí, de paz —respondió él;

14 A nd he saith, `I have a word unto thee,' and she saith, `Speak.'

y en seguida añadió—: Tengo algo que decirte. —Habla —dijo ella.

15 A nd he saith, `Thou hast known that the kingdom was mine, and towards me set their faces had all Israel for reigning, and the kingdom is turned round about, and is my brother's, for from Jehovah it was his;

Él dijo: —Tú sabes que el reino era mío y que todo Israel había puesto en mí sus ojos para que yo reinara; pero el reino fue traspasado y se le concedió a mi hermano, pues por voluntad de Jehová le pertenecía.

16 a nd now, one petition I am asking of thee -- turn not back my face;' and she saith unto him, `Speak.'

Ahora te hago una petición; no me la niegues. —Habla —le dijo ella.

17 A nd he saith, `Speak, I pray thee, to Solomon the king, for he doth not turn back thy face, and he doth give to me Abishag the Shunammite for a wife.'

Él entonces dijo: —Te ruego que hables al rey Salomón (porque él no te lo negará), para que me dé Abisag, la sunamita, por mujer.

18 A nd Bath-Sheba saith, `Good; I do speak for thee unto the king.'

—Bien; hablaré por ti al rey —respondió Betsabé.

19 A nd Bath-Sheba cometh in unto king Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, and the king riseth to meet her, and boweth himself to her, and sitteth on his throne, and placeth a throne for the mother of the king, and she sitteth at his right hand.

Betsabé fue a ver al rey Salomón para hablarle por Adonías. El rey se levantó a recibirla y se inclinó ante ella; volvió a sentarse en su trono e hizo traer una silla para su madre, que se sentó a su diestra.

20 A nd she saith, `One small petition I ask of thee, turn not back my face;' and the king saith to her, `Ask, my mother, for I do not turn back thy face.'

Entonces ella dijo: —Una pequeña petición pretendo de ti; no me la niegues. —Pide, madre mía, que yo no te la negaré —respondió el rey.

21 A nd she saith, `Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother for a wife.'

Y ella dijo: —Que se le dé Abisag, la sunamita, por esposa a tu hermano Adonías.

22 A nd king Solomon answereth and saith to his mother, `And why art thou asking Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? also ask for him the kingdom -- for he mine elder brother -- even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab son of Zeruiah.'

—¿Por qué pides a Abisag, la sunamita, para Adonías? Demanda también el reino para él, pues él es mi hermano mayor y ya tiene también de su parte al sacerdote Abiatar y a Joab hijo de Sarvia —le respondió Salomón a su madre.

23 A nd king Solomon sweareth by Jehovah, saying, `Thus doth God to me, and thus He doth add -- surely against his soul hath Adonijah spoken this word;

Y el rey Salomón juró por Jehová: «Traiga Dios sobre mí el peor de los castigos, que contra su vida ha hablado Adonías estas palabras.

24 a nd now, Jehovah liveth, who hath established me, and causeth me to sit on the throne of David my father, and who hath made for me an house as He spake -- surely to-day is Adonijah put to death.'

Ahora, pues, vive Jehová, quien me ha confirmado y me ha puesto sobre el trono de David, mi padre, quien me ha dado una casa conforme me lo había prometido, que Adonías morirá hoy.»

25 A nd king Solomon sendeth by the hand of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he falleth upon him, and he dieth.

Entonces el rey Salomón envió a Benaía hijo de Joiada, el cual arremetió contra él y lo mató.

26 A nd to Abiathar the priest said the king, `To Anathoth go, unto thy fields; for a man of death thou, but in this day I do not put thee to death, because thou hast borne the ark of the Lord Jehovah before David my father, and because thou wast afflicted in all that my father was afflicted in.'

Y el rey dijo al sacerdote Abiatar: «Vete a Anatot, a tus heredades, pues eres digno de muerte; pero no te mataré hoy, por cuanto has llevado el Arca de Jehová, el Señor, delante de David, mi padre, y además has compartido todas sus aflicciones.»

27 A nd Solomon casteth out Abiathar from being priest to Jehovah, to fulfil the word of Jehovah which He spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

Así echó Salomón a Abiatar del sacerdocio de Jehová, para que se cumpliera la palabra que Jehová pronunció en Silo sobre la casa de Elí.

28 A nd the report hath come unto Joab -- for Joab hath turned aside after Adonijah, though after Absalom he did not turn aside -- and Joab fleeth unto the tent of Jehovah, and layeth hold on the horns of the altar.

Llegó la noticia a Joab, y como también se había adherido a Adonías, si bien no se había adherido a Absalón, huyó Joab al tabernáculo de Jehová y se asió de los cuernos del altar.

29 A nd it is declared to king Solomon that Joab hath fled unto the tent of Jehovah, and lo, near the altar; and Solomon sendeth Benaiah son of Jehoiada, saying, `Go, fall upon him.'

Se le avisó a Salomón que Joab había huido al tabernáculo de Jehová y que estaba junto al altar. Entonces envió Salomón a Benaía hijo de Joiada, con esta orden: «Ve y arremete contra él.»

30 A nd Benaiah cometh in unto the tent of Jehovah, and saith unto him, `Thus said the king, Come out;' and he saith, `Nay, but here I die.' And Benaiah bringeth back the king word, saying, `Thus spake Joab, yea, thus he answered me.'

Entró Benaía al tabernáculo de Jehová, y le dijo: —El rey ha dicho que salgas. —No, sino que aquí moriré —respondió él. Benaía volvió con esta respuesta al rey, y le dijo: —Así me respondió Joab.

31 A nd the king saith to him, `Do as he hath spoken, and fall upon him, and thou hast buried him, and turned aside the causeless blood which Joab shed, from off me, and from off the house of my father;

El rey le dijo: —Haz como él ha dicho: mátalo y entiérralo, y aparta de mí y de la casa de mi padre la sangre que Joab ha derramado injustamente.

32 a nd Jehovah hath turned back his blood on his own head, who hath fallen on two men more righteous and better than he, and slayeth them with the sword, -- and my father David knew not -- Abner son of Ner, head of the host of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, head of the host of Judah;

Jehová hará caer su sangre sobre su cabeza, porque él ha dado muerte a dos hombres más justos y mejores que él, a los cuales mató a espada sin que mi padre David supiera nada: a Abner hijo de Ner, general del ejército de Israel, y a Amasa hijo de Jeter, general del ejército de Judá.

33 y ea, turned back hath their blood on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed to the age; and for David, and for his seed, and for his house, and for his throne, there is peace unto the age, from Jehovah.'

Así pues, la sangre de ellos recaerá sobre la cabeza de Joab y sobre la cabeza de su descendencia para siempre; pero sobre David y sobre su descendencia, sobre su casa y sobre su trono, habrá paz perpetua de parte de Jehová.

34 A nd Benaiah son of Jehoiada goeth up and falleth upon him, and putteth him to death, and he is buried in his own house in the wilderness,

Entonces Benaía hijo de Joiada subió, arremetió contra él y lo mató; y fue sepultado en su casa en el desierto.

35 a nd the king putteth Benaiah son of Jehoiada in his stead over the host, and Zadok the priest hath the king put in the stead of Abiathar.

El rey puso en su lugar a Benaía hijo de Joiada al frente del ejército, y a Sadoc el rey lo puso como sacerdote en lugar de Abiatar.

36 A nd the king sendeth and calleth for Shimei, and saith to him, `Build for thee a house in Jerusalem, and thou hast dwelt there, and dost not go out thence any where;

Después mandó a llamar el rey a Simei, y le dijo: —Edifícate una casa en Jerusalén y habita ahí, no salgas de allí a ninguna parte;

37 a nd it hath been, in the day of thy going out, and thou hast passed over the brook Kidron, thou dost certainly know that thou dost surely die -- thy blood is on thy head.'

porque ten por cierto que el día que salgas y pases el torrente Cedrón, sin duda morirás, y tu sangre caerá sobre tu cabeza.

38 A nd Shimei saith to the king, `The word good; as my lord the king hath spoken so doth thy servant do;' and Shimei dwelleth in Jerusalem many days.

Simei dijo al rey: —Tu palabra es buena; como el rey mi señor ha dicho, así lo hará tu siervo. Y habitó Simei en Jerusalén muchos días.

39 A nd it cometh to pass, at the end of three years, that flee do two of the servants of Shimei unto Achish son of Maachah, king of Gath, and they declare to Shimei, saying, `Lo, thy servants in Gath;'

Pero pasados tres años, aconteció que dos siervos de Simei huyeron junto a Aquis hijo de Maaca, rey de Gat. Alguien dio aviso a Simei diciendo: «Tus siervos están en Gat.»

40 a nd Shimei riseth, and saddleth his ass, and goeth to Gath, unto Achish, to seek his servants, and Shimei goeth and bringeth his servants from Gath.

Entonces Simei se levantó, ensilló su asno y fue adonde estaba Aquis, en Gat, para buscar a sus siervos. Fue, pues, Simei, y trajo sus siervos de Gat.

41 A nd it is declared to Solomon that Shimei hath gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and doth return,

Luego le dijeron a Salomón que Simei había ido de Jerusalén hasta Gat, y regresado.

42 a nd the king sendeth and calleth for Shimei, and saith unto him, `Have I not caused thee to swear by Jehovah -- and I testify against thee, saying, In the day of thy going out, and thou hast gone anywhere, thou dost certainly know that thou dost surely die; and thou sayest unto me, The word I have heard good?

Entonces el rey mandó a buscar a Simei, y le dijo: «¿No te hice jurar yo por Jehová, y te advertí diciendo: “El día que salgas y vayas acá o allá, ten por cierto que morirás”? Y tú me dijiste: “Tu palabra es buena, yo la obedezco.”

43 a nd wherefore hast thou not kept the oath of Jehovah, and the charge that I charged upon thee?'

¿Por qué, pues, no guardaste el juramento de Jehová, y el mandamiento que yo te impuse?»

44 A nd the king saith unto Shimei, `Thou hast known all the evil that thy heart hath known, which thou didest to David my father, and Jehovah hath turned back thine evil on thy head,

Dijo además el rey a Simei: «Tú conoces todo el mal, el cual tu corazón bien sabe que cometiste contra mi padre David. Jehová, pues, ha hecho recaer el mal sobre tu cabeza.

45 a nd king Solomon blessed, and the throne of David is established before Jehovah unto the age.'

En cambio, el rey Salomón será bendito, y el trono de David permanecerá firme perpetuamente delante de Jehová.»

46 A nd the king chargeth Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he goeth out and falleth on him, and he dieth, and the kingdom is established in the hand of Solomon.

Entonces el rey mandó a Benaía hijo de Joiada, el cual salió, lo hirió y lo mató. Y el reino fue confirmado en manos de Salomón.
