1 A nd draw near do the days of David to die, and he chargeth Solomon his son, saying,

Si avvicinava per Davide il giorno della morte, ed egli diede questi ordini a Salomone suo figlio:

2 ` I am going in the way of all the earth, and thou hast been strong, and become a man,

«Io m’incammino per la via di tutti gli abitanti della terra; fortìficati e compòrtati da uomo!

3 a nd kept the charge of Jehovah thy God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commands, and His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, so that thou dost wisely all that thou dost, and whithersoever thou turnest,

Osserva quello che il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti ha comandato di osservare, camminando nelle sue vie e mettendo in pratica le sue leggi, i suoi comandamenti, i suoi precetti, i suoi insegnamenti, come sta scritto nella legge di Mosè, perché tu riesca in tutto ciò che farai e dovunque tu ti volga,

4 s o that Jehovah doth establish His word which He spake unto me, saying, If thy sons observe their way to walk before Me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul; saying, There is not cut off a man of thine from the throne of Israel.

e affinché il Signore adempia la parola da lui pronunciata a mio riguardo quando disse: “Se i tuoi figli veglieranno sulla loro condotta camminando davanti a me con fedeltà, con tutto il cuore e con tutta l’anima loro, non ti mancherà mai qualcuno che sieda sul trono d’Israele”.

5 ` And also, thou hast known that which he did to me -- Joab son of Zeruiah -- that which he did to two heads of the hosts of Israel, to Abner son of Ner, and to Amasa son of Jether -- that he slayeth them, and maketh the blood of war in peace, and putteth the blood of war in his girdle, that on his loins, and in his sandals that on his feet;

Sai anche tu quel che mi ha fatto Ioab, figlio di Seruia, quel che ha fatto ai due capi degli eserciti d’Israele, ad Abner, figlio di Ner, e ad Amasa, figlio di Ieter, che egli uccise, spargendo in tempo di pace sangue di guerra, e macchiando di sangue la cintura che portava ai fianchi e i calzari che portava ai piedi.

6 a nd thou hast done according to thy wisdom, and dost not let his old age go down in peace to Sheol.

Agisci dunque secondo la tua saggezza, e non lasciare la sua canizie scendere in pace nel soggiorno dei morti.

7 ` And to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite thou dost do kindness, and they have been among those eating at thy table, for so they drew near unto me in my fleeing from the face of Absalom thy brother.

Ma tratta con bontà i figli di Barzillai il Galaadita; siano tra quelli che mangiano alla tua mensa, poiché anch’essi mi trattarono così quando vennero da me mentre fuggivo davanti ad Absalom tuo fratello.

8 ` And lo, with thee Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite of Bahurim, and he reviled me -- a grievous reviling -- in the day of my going to Mahanaim; and he hath come down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swear to him by Jehovah, saying, I do not put thee to death by the sword;

Tu hai vicino a te Simei, figlio di Ghera, il Beniaminita, di Baurim, il quale proferì contro di me una maledizione atroce il giorno che andavo a Maanaim. Ma egli scese a incontrarmi verso il Giordano, e io gli giurai per il Signore che non lo avrei fatto morire di spada.

9 a nd now, acquit him not, for a wise man thou, and thou hast known that which thou dost to him, and hast brought down his old age with blood to Sheol.'

Ma ora non lasciarlo impunito, perché sei saggio e sai quel che tu debba fargli. Farai scendere nel soggiorno dei morti la sua canizie tinta di sangue».

10 A nd David lieth down with his fathers, and is buried in the city of David,

Davide si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella città di Davide.

11 a nd the days that David hath reigned over Israel forty years, in Hebron he hath reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he hath reigned thirty and three years.

Il tempo che Davide regnò sopra Israele fu di quarant’anni: regnò sette anni a Ebron e trentatré anni a Gerusalemme.

12 A nd Solomon hath sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom is established greatly,

Salomone sedette sul trono di Davide, suo padre, e il suo regno fu saldamente stabilito. Provvedimenti del re Salomone

13 a nd Adonijah son of Haggith cometh in unto Bath-Sheba, mother of Solomon, and she saith, `Is thy coming peace?' and he saith, `Peace.'

Adonia, figlio di Agghit, andò da Bat-Sceba, madre di Salomone. Questa gli disse: «Vieni con intenzioni pacifiche?» Egli rispose: «Sì, pacifiche».

14 A nd he saith, `I have a word unto thee,' and she saith, `Speak.'

Poi aggiunse: «Devo parlarti». Quella rispose: «Di’ pure».

15 A nd he saith, `Thou hast known that the kingdom was mine, and towards me set their faces had all Israel for reigning, and the kingdom is turned round about, and is my brother's, for from Jehovah it was his;

Ed egli disse: «Tu sai che il regno mi apparteneva e che tutto Israele mi considerava come suo futuro re; ma il regno è stato trasferito e fatto passare a mio fratello, perché glielo ha dato il Signore.

16 a nd now, one petition I am asking of thee -- turn not back my face;' and she saith unto him, `Speak.'

Ti domando dunque una cosa; non negarmela». Lei rispose: «Di’ pure».

17 A nd he saith, `Speak, I pray thee, to Solomon the king, for he doth not turn back thy face, and he doth give to me Abishag the Shunammite for a wife.'

Egli disse: «Ti prego, di’ al re Salomone, il quale nulla ti negherà, che mi dia Abisag la Sunamita per moglie».

18 A nd Bath-Sheba saith, `Good; I do speak for thee unto the king.'

Bat-Sceba rispose: «Sta bene, parlerò al re in tuo favore».

19 A nd Bath-Sheba cometh in unto king Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, and the king riseth to meet her, and boweth himself to her, and sitteth on his throne, and placeth a throne for the mother of the king, and she sitteth at his right hand.

Bat-Sceba dunque andò dal re Salomone per parlargli in favore di Adonia. Il re si alzò per andarle incontro, le si inchinò, poi si risedette sul trono e fece mettere un altro trono per sua madre, la quale si sedette alla sua destra.

20 A nd she saith, `One small petition I ask of thee, turn not back my face;' and the king saith to her, `Ask, my mother, for I do not turn back thy face.'

Lei gli disse: «Ho una piccola cosa da chiederti; non negarmela». Il re rispose: «Chiedimela pure, madre mia; io non te la negherò».

21 A nd she saith, `Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother for a wife.'

Lei disse: «Abisag la Sunamita sia data in moglie a tuo fratello Adonia».

22 A nd king Solomon answereth and saith to his mother, `And why art thou asking Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? also ask for him the kingdom -- for he mine elder brother -- even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab son of Zeruiah.'

Il re Salomone, rispondendo a sua madre, disse: «E perché chiedi Abisag la Sunamita per Adonia? Chiedi piuttosto il regno per lui, poiché egli è mio fratello maggiore; chiedilo per lui, per il sacerdote Abiatar e per Ioab, figlio di Seruia!»

23 A nd king Solomon sweareth by Jehovah, saying, `Thus doth God to me, and thus He doth add -- surely against his soul hath Adonijah spoken this word;

Allora il re Salomone giurò per il Signore, dicendo: «Dio mi tratti con tutto il suo rigore, se Adonia non ha pronunciato questa parola a costo della sua vita!

24 a nd now, Jehovah liveth, who hath established me, and causeth me to sit on the throne of David my father, and who hath made for me an house as He spake -- surely to-day is Adonijah put to death.'

E ora, com’è vero che vive il Signore, il quale mi ha stabilito, mi ha concesso il trono di Davide mio padre, e mi ha fondato una casa come aveva promesso, oggi Adonia sarà messo a morte!»

25 A nd king Solomon sendeth by the hand of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he falleth upon him, and he dieth.

Il re Salomone mandò Benaia, figlio di Ieoiada, il quale colpì Adonia e quello morì.

26 A nd to Abiathar the priest said the king, `To Anathoth go, unto thy fields; for a man of death thou, but in this day I do not put thee to death, because thou hast borne the ark of the Lord Jehovah before David my father, and because thou wast afflicted in all that my father was afflicted in.'

Poi il re disse al sacerdote Abiatar: «Vattene ad Anatot, nelle tue terre, perché tu meriti la morte; ma io non ti farò morire oggi, perché portasti davanti a Davide mio padre l’arca del Signore Dio e partecipasti a tutte le sofferenze di mio padre».

27 A nd Solomon casteth out Abiathar from being priest to Jehovah, to fulfil the word of Jehovah which He spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

Così Salomone destituì Abiatar dalle funzioni di sacerdote del Signore, adempiendo in tal modo la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciata contro la casa di Eli a Silo.

28 A nd the report hath come unto Joab -- for Joab hath turned aside after Adonijah, though after Absalom he did not turn aside -- and Joab fleeth unto the tent of Jehovah, and layeth hold on the horns of the altar.

Questa notizia giunse a Ioab, il quale aveva seguito il partito di Adonia, benché non avesse seguito quello di Absalom. Egli si rifugiò nel tabernacolo del Signore e si aggrappò ai corni dell’altare.

29 A nd it is declared to king Solomon that Joab hath fled unto the tent of Jehovah, and lo, near the altar; and Solomon sendeth Benaiah son of Jehoiada, saying, `Go, fall upon him.'

Fu riferito al re Salomone: «Ioab si è rifugiato nel tabernacolo del Signore e sta accanto all’altare». Allora Salomone mandò Benaia, figlio di Ieoiada, dicendogli: «Va’, colpiscilo!»

30 A nd Benaiah cometh in unto the tent of Jehovah, and saith unto him, `Thus said the king, Come out;' and he saith, `Nay, but here I die.' And Benaiah bringeth back the king word, saying, `Thus spake Joab, yea, thus he answered me.'

Benaia entrò nel tabernacolo del Signore e disse a Ioab: «Così dice il re: “Vieni fuori!”» Quegli rispose: «No! voglio morire qui!» E Benaia riferì la cosa al re, dicendo: «Così ha parlato Ioab e così mi ha risposto».

31 A nd the king saith to him, `Do as he hath spoken, and fall upon him, and thou hast buried him, and turned aside the causeless blood which Joab shed, from off me, and from off the house of my father;

Il re gli disse: «Fa’ com’egli ha detto, colpiscilo e seppelliscilo; così toglierai da me e dalla casa di mio padre il sangue che Ioab sparse senza motivo.

32 a nd Jehovah hath turned back his blood on his own head, who hath fallen on two men more righteous and better than he, and slayeth them with the sword, -- and my father David knew not -- Abner son of Ner, head of the host of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, head of the host of Judah;

Il Signore farà ricadere sul suo capo il suo sangue, perché colpì due uomini più giusti e migliori di lui, e li uccise con la spada, senza che Davide mio padre ne sapesse nulla: Abner, figlio di Ner, capitano dell’esercito d’Israele, e Amasa, figlio di Ieter, capitano dell’esercito di Giuda.

33 y ea, turned back hath their blood on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed to the age; and for David, and for his seed, and for his house, and for his throne, there is peace unto the age, from Jehovah.'

Il loro sangue ricadrà sul capo di Ioab e sul capo della sua discendenza per sempre, ma vi sarà pace per sempre da parte del Signore per Davide, per la sua discendenza, per la sua casa e per il suo trono».

34 A nd Benaiah son of Jehoiada goeth up and falleth upon him, and putteth him to death, and he is buried in his own house in the wilderness,

Allora Benaia, figlio di Ieoiada, salì, lo colpì e lo uccise; e Ioab fu sepolto in casa sua nel deserto.

35 a nd the king putteth Benaiah son of Jehoiada in his stead over the host, and Zadok the priest hath the king put in the stead of Abiathar.

Al suo posto il re fece capo dell’esercito Benaia, figlio di Ieoiada, e mise il sacerdote Sadoc al posto di Abiatar.

36 A nd the king sendeth and calleth for Shimei, and saith to him, `Build for thee a house in Jerusalem, and thou hast dwelt there, and dost not go out thence any where;

Poi il re mandò a chiamare Simei e gli disse: «Costruisciti una casa in Gerusalemme per abitarvi e non ne uscire per andare qua o là,

37 a nd it hath been, in the day of thy going out, and thou hast passed over the brook Kidron, thou dost certainly know that thou dost surely die -- thy blood is on thy head.'

perché il giorno che ne uscirai e oltrepasserai il torrente Chidron, sappi per certo che morirai; il tuo sangue ricadrà sul tuo capo».

38 A nd Shimei saith to the king, `The word good; as my lord the king hath spoken so doth thy servant do;' and Shimei dwelleth in Jerusalem many days.

Simei rispose al re: «Sta bene; il tuo servo farà come il re mio signore ha detto». E Simei abitò a Gerusalemme per molto tempo.

39 A nd it cometh to pass, at the end of three years, that flee do two of the servants of Shimei unto Achish son of Maachah, king of Gath, and they declare to Shimei, saying, `Lo, thy servants in Gath;'

Tre anni dopo, due servi di Simei fuggirono presso Achis, figlio di Maaca, re di Gat. La cosa fu riferita a Simei e gli fu detto: «Ecco, i tuoi servi sono a Gat».

40 a nd Shimei riseth, and saddleth his ass, and goeth to Gath, unto Achish, to seek his servants, and Shimei goeth and bringeth his servants from Gath.

Simei si alzò, sellò il suo asino e andò a Gat, da Achis, in cerca dei suoi servi; andò e condusse via da Gat i suoi servi.

41 A nd it is declared to Solomon that Shimei hath gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and doth return,

Fu riferito a Salomone che Simei era andato da Gerusalemme a Gat, ed era tornato.

42 a nd the king sendeth and calleth for Shimei, and saith unto him, `Have I not caused thee to swear by Jehovah -- and I testify against thee, saying, In the day of thy going out, and thou hast gone anywhere, thou dost certainly know that thou dost surely die; and thou sayest unto me, The word I have heard good?

Il re mandò a chiamare Simei e gli disse: «Non ti avevo fatto giurare per il Signore, e non t’avevo solennemente avvertito, dicendoti: “Sappi per certo che il giorno che uscirai per andare qua o là morirai”? E tu non mi rispondesti: “Ho udito la tua parola: sta bene”?

43 a nd wherefore hast thou not kept the oath of Jehovah, and the charge that I charged upon thee?'

Perché dunque non hai mantenuto il giuramento fatto al Signore e non hai osservato l’ordine che ti avevo dato?»

44 A nd the king saith unto Shimei, `Thou hast known all the evil that thy heart hath known, which thou didest to David my father, and Jehovah hath turned back thine evil on thy head,

Il re disse inoltre a Simei: «Tu sai tutto il male che facesti a Davide mio padre; il tuo cuore ne è consapevole; ora il Signore fa ricadere sul tuo capo la tua malvagità;

45 a nd king Solomon blessed, and the throne of David is established before Jehovah unto the age.'

ma il re Salomone sarà benedetto e il trono di Davide sarà reso stabile per sempre davanti al Signore ».

46 A nd the king chargeth Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he goeth out and falleth on him, and he dieth, and the kingdom is established in the hand of Solomon.

E il re ordinò a Benaia, figlio di Ieoiada, di andare a ucciderlo. E quello morì. Così il regno rimase saldo nelle mani di Salomone.
