1 A nd Samson goeth down to Timnath, and seeth a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines,

Sansone scese a Timna e vide là una donna tra le figlie dei Filistei.

2 a nd cometh up and declareth to his father, and to his mother, and saith, `A woman I have seen in Timnath, of the daughters of the Philistines; and now, take her for me for a wife.'

Tornato a casa, ne parlò a suo padre e a sua madre, e disse: «Ho visto a Timna una donna tra le figlie dei Filistei; prendetemela dunque per moglie».

3 A nd his father saith to him -- also his mother, `Is there not among the daughters of thy brethren, and among all my people, a woman, that thou art going to take a woman from the uncircumcised Philistines?' and Samson saith unto his father, `Take her for me, for she is right in mine eyes.'

Suo padre e sua madre gli dissero: «Non c’è tra le figlie dei tuoi fratelli in tutto il nostro popolo una donna per te? Devi andare a prenderti una moglie tra i Filistei incirconcisi?» Sansone rispose a suo padre: «Prendimi quella perché mi piace».

4 A nd his father and his mother have not known that from Jehovah it, that a meeting he is seeking of the Philistines; and at that time the Philistines are ruling over Israel.

Suo padre e sua madre non sapevano che questo veniva dal Signore; Sansone infatti cercava un’occasione di contesa da parte dei Filistei. In quel tempo, i Filistei dominavano Israele.

5 A nd Samson goeth down -- also his father and his mother, to Timnath, and they come unto the vineyards of Timnath, and lo, a lion's whelp roareth at meeting him,

Poi Sansone scese con suo padre e sua madre a Timna; e quando giunsero alle vigne di Timna, ecco un leoncello venirgli incontro ruggendo.

6 a nd the Spirit of Jehovah prospereth over him, and he rendeth it as the rending of a kid, and there is nothing in his hand, and he hath not declared to his father and to his mother that which he hath done.

Lo Spirito del Signore investì Sansone, che, senza aver niente in mano, squartò la belva come uno squarta un capretto; ma non disse nulla a suo padre né a sua madre di ciò che aveva fatto.

7 A nd he goeth down and speaketh to the woman, and she is right in the eyes of Samson;

E scese, parlò alla donna, e questa gli piacque.

8 a nd he turneth back after days to take her, and turneth aside to see the carcase of the lion, and lo, a company of bees in the body of the lion -- and honey.

Di lì a qualche tempo tornò per prenderla e uscì di strada per vedere la carcassa del leone; ed ecco nella carcassa del leone c’era uno sciame d’api e del miele.

9 A nd he taketh it down on to his hands, and goeth on, going and eating; and he goeth unto his father, and unto his mother, and giveth to them, and they eat, and he hath not declared to them that from the body of the lion he took down the honey.

Egli prese in mano il miele e si mise a mangiarlo per via; e quando ebbe raggiunto suo padre e sua madre, ne diede loro ed essi ne mangiarono; ma non disse loro che aveva preso il miele dalla carcassa del leone.

10 A nd his father goeth down unto the woman, and Samson maketh there a banquet, for so the young men do;

Suo padre scese a trovare quella donna e là Sansone fece un convito, perché tale era il costume dei giovani.

11 a nd it cometh to pass when they see him, that they take thirty companions, and they are with him.

Appena i parenti della sposa videro Sansone, invitarono trenta compagni perché stessero con lui.

12 A nd Samson saith to them, `Let me, I pray you, put forth to you a riddle; if ye certainly declare it to me the seven days of the banquet, and have found out, then I have given to you thirty linen shirts, and thirty changes of garments;

Sansone disse loro: «Io vi proporrò un enigma; se voi me lo spiegate entro i sette giorni del convito e se l’indovinate, vi darò trenta tuniche e trenta vesti;

13 a nd if ye are not able to declare to me, then ye have given to me thirty linen shirts, and thirty changes of garments.' And they say to him, `Put forth thy riddle, and we hear it!'

ma, se non me lo potete spiegare, darete trenta tuniche e trenta vesti a me».

14 A nd he saith to them: `Out of the eater came forth meat, And out of the strong came forth sweetness;' and they were not able to declare the riddle three days.

Quelli gli risposero: «Proponi il tuo enigma e noi l’ascolteremo». Egli disse loro: «Dal mangiatore è uscito del cibo, e dal forte è uscito il dolce». Per tre giorni quelli non poterono spiegare l’enigma.

15 A nd it cometh to pass, on the seventh day, that they say to Samson's wife, `Entice thy husband, that he declare to us the riddle, lest we burn thee and the house of thy father with fire; to possess us have ye called for us? is it not?'

Il settimo giorno dissero alla moglie di Sansone: «Tenta tuo marito affinché ci spieghi l’enigma; se no, daremo fuoco a te e alla casa di tuo padre. E che? ci avete invitati per spogliarci?»

16 A nd Samson's wife weepeth for it, and saith, `Thou hast only hated me, and hast not loved me; the riddle thou hast put forth to the sons of my people -- and to me thou hast not declared it;' and he saith to her, `Lo, to my father and to my mother I have not declared -- and to thee I declare!'

La moglie di Sansone si mise a piangere presso di lui e a dirgli: «Tu non hai per me che dell’odio e non mi ami; hai proposto un enigma ai figli del mio popolo e non me l’hai spiegato!» Egli a lei: «Ecco, non l’ho spiegato né a mio padre né a mia madre e lo spiegherei a te?»

17 A nd she weepeth for it the seven days which their banquet hath been, and it cometh to pass on the seventh day that he declareth to her, for she hath distressed him; and she declareth the riddle to the sons of her people.

Lei pianse presso di lui, per i sette giorni che durava il convito; il settimo giorno Sansone glielo spiegò, perché lo tormentava; e lei spiegò l’enigma ai figli del suo popolo.

18 A nd the men of the city say to him on the seventh day, before the sun goeth in: -- `What sweeter than honey? And what stronger than a lion?' And he saith to them: `Unless ye had ploughed with my heifer, Ye had not found out my riddle.'

Gli uomini della città, il settimo giorno, prima che tramontasse il sole, dissero a Sansone: «Cos’è più dolce del miele? e chi è più forte del leone?» Egli rispose loro: «Se non aveste arato con la mia giovenca, non avreste indovinato il mio enigma».

19 A nd the Spirit of Jehovah prospereth over him, and he goeth down to Ashkelon, and smiteth of them thirty men, and taketh their armour, and giveth the changes to those declaring the riddle; and his anger burneth, and he goeth up to the house of his father;

Lo Spirito del Signore lo investì ed egli scese ad Ascalon, vi uccise trenta uomini, prese le loro spoglie e diede le vesti a quelli che avevano spiegato l’enigma. Poi, acceso d’ira, risalì a casa di suo padre.

20 a nd Samson's wife becometh his companion's, who his friend.

Ma la moglie di Sansone fu data al compagno, che egli si era scelto per amico.
