1 A nd again he began to teach by the sea, and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he, having gone into the boat, sat in the sea, and all the multitude was near the sea, on the land,

Gesù si mise di nuovo a insegnare presso il mare. Una grandissima folla si radunò intorno a lui, tanto che egli, montato su una barca, vi sedette stando in mare, mentre tutta la folla era a terra sulla riva.

2 a nd he taught them many things in similes, and he said to them in his teaching:

Egli insegnava loro molte cose in parabole e diceva loro nel suo insegnamento:

3 ` Hearken, lo, the sower went forth to sow;

«Ascoltate: il seminatore uscì a seminare.

4 a nd it came to pass, in the sowing, some fell by the way, and the fowls of the heaven did come and devour it;

Mentre seminava, una parte del seme cadde lungo la strada; e gli uccelli vennero e lo mangiarono.

5 a nd other fell upon the rocky ground, where it had not much earth, and immediately it sprang forth, because of not having depth of earth,

Un’altra cadde in un suolo roccioso dove non aveva molta terra; e subito spuntò, perché non aveva terreno profondo;

6 a nd the sun having risen, it was scorched, and because of not having root it did wither;

ma quando il sole si levò, fu bruciata e, non avendo radice, inaridì.

7 a nd other fell toward the thorns, and the thorns did come up, and choke it, and fruit it gave not;

Un’altra cadde fra le spine; le spine crebbero e la soffocarono, ed essa non fece frutto.

8 a nd other fell to the good ground, and was giving fruit, coming up and increasing, and it bare, one thirty-fold, and one sixty, and one an hundred.'

Altre parti caddero nella buona terra; portarono frutto, che venne su e crebbe, e giunsero a dare il trenta, il sessanta e il cento per uno».

9 A nd he said to them, `He who is having ears to hear -- let him hear.'

Poi disse: «Chi ha orecchi per udire oda».

10 A nd when he was alone, those about him, with the twelve, did ask him of the simile,

Quando egli fu solo, quelli che gli stavano intorno con i dodici lo interrogarono sulle parabole.

11 a nd he said to them, `To you it hath been given to know the secret of the reign of God, but to those who are without, in similes are all the things done;

Egli disse loro: «A voi è dato il mistero del regno di Dio; ma a quelli che sono di fuori tutto viene esposto in parabole, affinché:

12 t hat seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand, lest they may turn, and the sins may be forgiven them.'

“Vedendo, vedano sì, ma non discernano; udendo, odano sì, ma non comprendano; affinché non si convertano, e non siano perdonati” ».

13 A nd he saith to them, `Have ye not known this simile? and how shall ye know all the similes?

Poi disse loro: «Non capite questa parabola? Come comprenderete tutte le altre parabole?

14 H e who is sowing doth sow the word;

Il seminatore semina la parola.

15 a nd these are they by the way where the word is sown: and whenever they may hear, immediately cometh the Adversary, and he taketh away the word that hath been sown in their hearts.

Quelli che sono lungo la strada sono coloro nei quali è seminata la parola; e quando l’hanno udita, subito viene Satana e porta via la parola seminata in loro.

16 ` And these are they, in like manner, who on the rocky ground are sown: who, whenever they may hear the word, immediately with joy do receive it,

E così quelli che ricevono il seme in luoghi rocciosi sono coloro che, quando odono la parola, la ricevono subito con gioia;

17 a nd have not root in themselves, but are temporary; afterward tribulation or persecution having come because of the word, immediately they are stumbled.

ma non hanno in sé radice e sono di corta durata; poi, quando vengono tribolazione o persecuzione a causa della parola, sono subito sviati.

18 ` And these are they who toward the thorns are sown: these are they who are hearing the word,

E altri sono quelli che ricevono il seme tra le spine; cioè coloro che hanno udito la parola;

19 a nd the anxieties of this age, and the deceitfulness of the riches, and the desires concerning the other things, entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

poi le ansiose preoccupazioni mondane, l’inganno delle ricchezze, l’avidità delle altre cose, penetrati in loro, soffocano la parola, che così riesce infruttuosa.

20 ` And these are they who on the good ground have been sown: who do hear the word, and receive, and do bear fruit, one thirty-fold, and one sixty, and one an hundred.'

Quelli poi che hanno ricevuto il seme in buona terra sono coloro che odono la parola e l’accolgono e fruttano il trenta, il sessanta e il cento per uno». La lampada sul candeliere

21 A nd he said to them, `Doth the lamp come that under the measure it may be put, or under the couch -- not that it may be put on the lamp-stand?

Poi diceva ancora loro: «Si prende forse la lampada per metterla sotto un recipiente o sotto il letto? Non la si prende invece per metterla sul candeliere?

22 f or there is not anything hid that may not be manifested, nor was anything kept hid but that it may come to light.

Poiché non vi è nulla che sia nascosto se non per essere manifestato; e nulla è stato tenuto segreto se non per essere messo in luce.

23 I f any hath ears to hear -- let him hear.'

Se uno ha orecchi per udire oda».

24 A nd he said to them, `Take heed what ye hear; in what measure ye measure, it shall be measured to you; and to you who hear it shall be added;

Diceva loro ancora: «Badate a ciò che udite. Con la misura con la quale misurate sarete misurati pure voi; e a voi sarà dato anche di più;

25 f or whoever may have, there shall be given to him, and whoever hath not, also that which he hath shall be taken from him.'

poiché a chi ha sarà dato, a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che ha». Il seme che da sé germoglia e cresce

26 A nd he said, `Thus is the reign of God: as if a man may cast the seed on the earth,

Diceva ancora: «Il regno di Dio è come un uomo che getti il seme nel terreno,

27 a nd may sleep, and may rise night and day, and the seed spring up and grow, he hath not known how;

e dorma e si alzi, la notte e il giorno; il seme intanto germoglia e cresce senza che egli sappia come.

28 f or of itself doth the earth bear fruit, first a blade, afterwards an ear, afterwards full corn in the ear;

La terra da se stessa porta frutto: prima l’erba, poi la spiga, poi nella spiga il grano ben formato.

29 a nd whenever the fruit may yield itself, immediately he doth send forth the sickle, because the harvest hath come.'

E quando il frutto è maturo, subito vi mette la falce perché l’ora della mietitura è venuta». Il granello di senape

30 A nd he said, `To what may we liken the reign of God, or in what simile may we compare it?

Diceva ancora: «A che paragoneremo il regno di Dio, o con quale parabola lo rappresenteremo?

31 A s a grain of mustard, which, whenever it may be sown on the earth, is less than any of the seeds that are on the earth;

Esso è simile a un granello di senape, il quale, quando lo si è seminato in terra, è il più piccolo di tutti i semi che sono sulla terra;

32 a nd whenever it may be sown, it cometh up, and doth become greater than any of the herbs, and doth make great branches, so that under its shade the fowls of the heaven are able to rest.'

ma quando è seminato, cresce e diventa più grande di tutti gli ortaggi; e fa dei rami tanto grandi che alla sua ombra possono ripararsi gli uccelli del cielo».

33 A nd with many such similes he was speaking to them the word, as they were able to hear,

Con molte parabole di questo genere esponeva loro la parola, secondo quello che potevano intendere.

34 a nd without a simile he was not speaking to them, and by themselves, to his disciples he was expounding all.

Non parlava loro senza parabola; ma in privato ai suoi discepoli spiegava ogni cosa. Gesù calma la tempesta

35 A nd he saith to them on that day, evening having come, `We may pass over to the other side;'

In quello stesso giorno, alla sera, Gesù disse loro: «Passiamo all’altra riva».

36 a nd having let away the multitude, they take him up as he was in the boat, and other little boats also were with him.

E lasciata la folla, lo presero con sé, così com’era, nella barca. C’erano delle altre barche con lui.

37 A nd there cometh a great storm of wind, and the waves were beating on the boat, so that it is now being filled,

Ed ecco levarsi una gran bufera di vento che gettava le onde nella barca, tanto che la barca già si riempiva.

38 a nd he himself was upon the stern, upon the pillow sleeping, and they wake him up, and say to him, `Teacher, art thou not caring that we perish?'

Egli stava dormendo sul guanciale a poppa. Essi lo svegliarono e gli dissero: «Maestro, non t’importa che noi moriamo?»

39 A nd having waked up, he rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, `Peace, be stilled;' and the wind did lull, and there was a great calm:

Egli, svegliatosi, sgridò il vento e disse al mare: «Taci, càlmati!» Il vento cessò e si fece gran bonaccia.

40 a nd he said to them, `Why are ye so fearful? how have ye not faith?'

Egli disse loro: «Perché siete così paurosi? Non avete ancora fede? »

41 a nd they feared a great fear, and said one to another, `Who, then, is this, that even the wind and the sea do obey him?'

Ed essi furono presi da gran timore e si dicevano gli uni gli altri: «Chi è dunque costui, al quale persino il vento e il mare ubbidiscono?»
