4 F or their heart Thou hast hidden From understanding, Therefore Thou dost not exalt them.
Poiché tu hai chiuso il cuore di costoro alla ragione, perciò non li farai trionfare.
5 F or a portion he sheweth friendship, And the eyes of his sons are consumed.
Chi denuncia un amico perché diventi preda altrui vedrà accecare gli occhi dei suoi figli.
6 A nd he set me up for a proverb of the peoples, And a wonder before them I am.
Egli mi ha reso la favola dei popoli e sono divenuto uno a cui si sputa in faccia.
7 A nd dim from sorrow is mine eye, And my members as a shadow all of them.
L’occhio mio si oscura dal dolore, le mie membra non sono più che un’ombra.
8 A stonished are the upright at this, And the innocent against the profane Stirreth himself up.
Gli uomini retti ne sono colpiti di stupore, l’innocente si sdegna contro l’empio;
9 A nd the righteous layeth hold his way, And the clean of hands addeth strength, And -- dumb are they all.
ma il giusto si attiene saldo alla sua via, e chi ha le mani pure si fortifica sempre più.
10 R eturn, and come in, I pray you, And I find not among you a wise man.
«Quanto a voi tutti, tornate pure, fatevi avanti, ma fra voi non troverò un saggio.
11 M y days have passed by, My devices have been broken off, The possessions of my heart!
I miei giorni passano; i miei disegni, i disegni cari al mio cuore, sono distrutti;
12 N ight for day they appoint, Light near because of darkness.
e costoro pretendono che la notte sia giorno, che la luce sia vicina, quando tutto è buio!
13 I f I wait -- Sheol my house, In darkness I have spread out my couch.
Se aspetto come casa mia il soggiorno dei morti, se già mi sono fatto il letto nelle tenebre,
14 T o corruption I have called: -- `Thou my father.' `My mother' and `my sister' -- to the worm.
al sepolcro dico: “Tu sei mio padre”, e ai vermi: “Siete mia madre e mia sorella”.
15 A nd where now my hope? Yea, my hope, who doth behold it?
Dov’è dunque la mia speranza? Questa speranza mia chi la può scorgere?
16 t he parts of Sheol ye go down, If together on the dust we may rest.
Essa scenderà alle porte del soggiorno dei morti, quando nella polvere troveremo riposo assieme».
