1 A nd a rod hath come out from the stock of Jesse, And a branch from his roots is fruitful.

Poi un ramo uscirà dal tronco d’Isai, un rampollo spunterà dalle sue radici.

2 R ested on him hath the Spirit of Jehovah, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and might, The spirit of knowledge and fear of Jehovah.

Lo Spirito del Signore riposerà su di lui: Spirito di saggezza e d’intelligenza, Spirito di consiglio e di forza, Spirito di conoscenza e di timore del Signore.

3 T o refresh him in the fear of Jehovah, And by the sight of his eyes he judgeth not, Nor by the hearing of his ears decideth.

Respirerà come profumo il timore del Signore, non giudicherà dall’apparenza, non darà sentenze stando al sentito dire,

4 A nd he hath judged in righteousness the poor, And decided in uprightness for the humble of earth, And hath smitten earth with the rod of his mouth, And with the breath of his lips he putteth the wicked to death.

ma giudicherà i poveri con giustizia, pronuncerà sentenze eque per gli umili del paese. Colpirà il paese con la verga della sua bocca, e con il soffio delle sue labbra farà morire l’empio.

5 A nd righteousness hath been the girdle of his loins, And faithfulness -- the girdle of his reins.

La giustizia sarà la cintura delle sue reni, e la fedeltà la cintura dei suoi fianchi.

6 A nd a wolf hath sojourned with a lamb, And a leopard with a kid doth lie down, And calf, and young lion, and fatling together, And a little youth is leader over them.

Il lupo abiterà con l’agnello, e il leopardo si sdraierà accanto al capretto; il vitello, il leoncello e il bestiame ingrassato staranno assieme, e un bambino li condurrà.

7 A nd cow and bear do feed, Together lie down their young ones, And a lion as an ox eateth straw.

La vacca pascolerà con l’orsa, i loro piccoli si sdraieranno assieme e il leone mangerà il foraggio come il bue.

8 A nd played hath a suckling by the hole of an asp, And on the den of a cockatrice Hath the weaned one put his hand.

Il lattante giocherà sul nido della vipera, e il bambino divezzato stenderà la mano nella buca del serpente.

9 E vil they do not, nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For full hath been the earth with the knowledge of Jehovah, As the waters are covering the sea.

Non si farà né male né danno su tutto il mio monte santo, poiché la conoscenza del Signore riempirà la terra, come le acque coprono il fondo del mare.

10 A nd there hath been, in that day, A root of Jesse that is standing for an ensign of peoples, Unto him do nations seek, And his rest hath been -- honour!

In quel giorno verso la radice d’Isai, issata come vessillo dei popoli, si volgeranno premurose le nazioni, e la sua residenza sarà gloriosa.

11 A nd it hath come to pass, in that day, The Lord addeth a second time his power, To get the remnant of His people that is left, From Asshur, and from Egypt, And from Pathros, and from Cush, And from Elam, and from Shinar, And from Hamath, and from isles of the sea,

In quel giorno il Signore stenderà una seconda volta la mano per riscattare il residuo del suo popolo rimasto in Assiria e in Egitto, a Patros e in Etiopia, a Elam, a Scinear e a Camat, e nelle isole del mare.

12 A nd He hath lifted up an ensign to nations, And gathereth the driven away of Israel, And the scattered of Judah He assembleth, From the four wings of the earth.

Egli alzerà un vessillo verso le nazioni, raccoglierà gli esuli d’Israele e radunerà i dispersi di Giuda dai quattro canti della terra.

13 A nd turned aside hath the envy of Ephraim, And the adversaries of Judah are cut off, Ephraim doth not envy Judah, And Judah doth not distress Ephraim.

La gelosia di Efraim scomparirà e gli avversari di Giuda saranno annientati; Efraim non invidierà più Giuda e Giuda non sarà più ostile a Efraim.

14 A nd they have flown on the shoulder of the Philistines westward, Together they spoil the sons of the east, Edom and Moab sending forth their hand, And sons of Ammon obeying them.

Essi piomberanno a volo sulle spalle dei Filistei a occidente, insieme faranno razzia tra i figli dell’oriente; metteranno le mani addosso a Edom e a Moab, e i figli di Ammon saranno loro sudditi.

15 A nd Jehovah hath devoted to destruction The tongue of the sea of Egypt, And hath waved His hand over the river, In the terror of his wind, And hath smitten it at the seven streams, And hath caused to tread with shoes.

Il Signore metterà interamente a secco la lingua del mar d’Egitto; agiterà minacciosamente la mano contro il fiume e, con il suo soffio impetuoso, lo spartirà in sette canali; farà in modo che lo si passi con i sandali.

16 A nd there hath been a highway, For the remnant of His people that is left, from Asshur, As there was for Israel in the day of his coming up out of the land of Egypt!

Ci sarà una strada per il residuo del suo popolo rimasto in Assiria, come ce ne fu una per Israele il giorno che uscì dal paese d’Egitto.
