1 H ear ye this word that Jehovah hath spoken concerning you, O sons of Israel, concerning all the family that I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying:

Ascoltate questa parola che il Signore pronuncia contro di voi, o figli d’Israele, contro tutta la famiglia che io ho condotto fuori dal paese d’Egitto:

2 O nly you I have known of all families of the land, Therefore I charge on you all your iniquities.

«Voi soli ho conosciuto fra tutte le famiglie della terra; perciò vi castigherò per tutte le vostre trasgressioni».

3 D o two walk together if they have not met?

Due uomini camminano forse insieme, se prima non si sono accordati?

4 R oar doth a lion in a forest and prey he hath none? Give out doth a young lion his voice from his habitation, If he hath not caught?

Ruggisce forse il leone nella foresta, se non ha una preda? Il leoncello fa forse udire la sua voce dalla tana, se non ha preso nulla?

5 D oth a bird fall into a snare of the earth, And there is no gin for it? Doth a snare go up from the ground, And prey it captureth not?

Cade forse l’uccello nella rete a terra, se non gli è tesa una trappola? Scatta forse la tagliola dal suolo, se non ha preso qualcosa?

6 I s a trumpet blown in a city, And do people not tremble? Is there affliction in a city, And Jehovah hath not done ?

Squilla forse la tromba in una città, senza che il popolo tremi? Piomba forse una sciagura sopra una città, senza che il Signore ne sia l’autore?

7 F or the Lord Jehovah doth nothing, Except He hath revealed His counsel unto His servants the prophets.

Poiché il Signore, Dio, non fa nulla senza rivelare il suo segreto ai suoi servi, i profeti.

8 A lion hath roared -- who doth not fear? The Lord Jehovah hath spoken -- who doth not prophesy?

Il leone ruggisce, chi non temerà? Il Signore, Dio, parla, chi non profetizzerà? Peccato e castigo d’Israele

9 S ound ye unto palaces in Ashdod, And to palaces in the land of Egypt, and say: Be ye gathered on mountains of Samaria, And see many troubles within her, And oppressed ones in her midst.

Proclamate questo sui palazzi di Asdod e sui palazzi del paese d’Egitto; dite: «Adunatevi sui monti di Samaria, osservate quali grandi disordini ci sono in essa e quali oppressioni avvengono al suo interno!»

10 A nd they have not known to act straightforwardly, An affirmation of Jehovah, Who are treasuring up violence and spoil in their palaces.

«Essi non sanno fare ciò che è retto», dice il Signore; «accumulano nei loro palazzi i frutti della loro violenza e della rapina».

11 T herefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: An adversary -- and surrounding the land, And he hath brought down from thee thy strength, And spoiled have been thy palaces.

Perciò così dice il Signore, Dio: «Ecco, il nemico è tutt’attorno al paese; egli abbatterà la tua forza e i tuoi palazzi saranno saccheggiati».

12 T hus said Jehovah: As the shepherd delivereth from the lion's mouth Two legs, or a piece of an ear, So delivered are the sons of Israel, Who are sitting in Samaria on the corner of a bed, And in Damascus a couch.

Così dice il Signore: «Come il pastore strappa dalle fauci del leone due zampe o un pezzo d’orecchio, così scamperanno i figli d’Israele che in Samaria stanno ora seduti sull’angolo di un divano o su un letto di damasco.

13 H ear ye and testify to the house of Jacob, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, God of Hosts.

Ascoltate questo e testimoniatelo alla casa di Giacobbe», dice il Signore, Dio, Dio degli eserciti:

14 F or in the day of My charging the transgressions of Israel on him, I have laid a charge on the altars of Beth-El, And cut off have been the horns of the altar, And they have fallen to the earth.

«Il giorno che io punirò Israele per le sue trasgressioni, colpirò anche gli altari di Betel; i corni dell’altare saranno spezzati e cadranno a terra.

15 A nd I have smitten the winter-house with the summer-house, And perished have houses of ivory, And consumed have been many houses, An affirmation of Jehovah!

Abbatterò le case d’inverno e le case d’estate; le case d’avorio saranno distrutte e scompariranno i grandi palazzi», dice il Signore.
