1 B owed down hath Bel, stooping is Nebo, Their idols have been for the beast and for cattle, Your burdens are loaded, a burden to the weary.

Bel crolla, Nebo cade; le loro statue sono messe sopra animali, su bestie da soma; questi idoli che voi portavate qua e là sono diventati un carico, un peso per la bestia stanca!

2 T hey have stooped, they have bowed together, They have not been able to deliver the burden, And themselves into captivity have gone.

Sono caduti, sono crollati assieme, non possono salvare il carico, essi stessi se ne vanno in prigionia.

3 H earken unto Me, O house of Jacob, And all the remnant of Israel, Who are borne from the belly, Who are carried from the womb,

«Ascoltatemi, o casa di Giacobbe, voi tutti, residuo della casa d’Israele, voi di cui mi sono caricato dal giorno che nasceste, che siete stati portati fin dal seno materno!

4 E ven to old age I He, and to grey hairs I carry, I made, and I bear, yea, I carry and deliver.

Fino alla vostra vecchiaia io sono, fino alla vostra canizie io vi porterò; io vi ho fatti e io vi sosterrò; sì, vi porterò e vi salverò.

5 T o whom do ye liken Me, and make equal? And compare Me, that we may be like?

A chi mi assomigliereste, a chi mi eguagliereste, a chi mi paragonereste, quasi fossimo pari?

6 - - They are pouring out gold from a bag, And silver on the beam they weigh, They hire a refiner, and he maketh it a god, They fall down, yea, they bow themselves.

Costoro prelevano l’oro dalla loro borsa, pesano l’argento nella bilancia, pagano un orefice perché ne faccia un dio per prostrarglisi davanti, per adorarlo.

7 T hey lift him up on the shoulder, They carry him, and cause him to rest in his place, And he standeth, from his place he moveth not, Yea, one crieth unto him, and he answereth not, From his adversity he saveth him not.

Se lo caricano sulle spalle, lo trasportano, lo mettono sul suo piedistallo; esso sta in piedi e non si muove dal suo posto; benché uno gridi a lui, esso non risponde né lo salva dalla sua afflizione.

8 R emember this, and shew yourselves men, Turn back, O transgressors, to the heart.

Ricordatevi di questo e mostratevi uomini! O trasgressori, rientrate in voi stessi!

9 R emember former things of old, For I Mighty, and there is none else, God -- and there is none like Me.

Ricordate il passato, le cose antiche; perché io sono Dio, e non ce n’è alcun altro; sono Dio, e nessuno è simile a me.

10 D eclaring from the beginning the latter end, And from of old that which hath not been done, Saying, `My counsel doth stand, And all My delight I do.'

Io annuncio la fine sin dal principio, molto tempo prima dico le cose non ancora avvenute; io dico: “Il mio piano sussisterà, e metterò a effetto tutta la mia volontà”;

11 C alling from the east a ravenous bird, From a far land the man of My counsel, Yea, I have spoken, yea, I bring it in, I have formed, yea, I do it.

chiamo da oriente un uccello da preda, da una terra lontana l’uomo che effettui il mio disegno. Sì, io l’ho detto e lo farò avvenire; ne ho formato il disegno e lo eseguirò.

12 H earken unto Me, ye mighty in heart, Who are far from righteousness.

Ascoltatemi, o gente dal cuore ostinato, che siete lontani dalla giustizia!

13 I have brought near My righteousness, It is not far off, And My salvation -- it doth not tarry, And I have given in Zion salvation, To Israel My glory!

Io faccio avvicinare la mia giustizia; essa non è lontana, la mia salvezza non tarderà; io metterò la salvezza in Sion e la mia gloria sopra Israele.
