1 A nd they journey from Elim, and all the company of the sons of Israel come in unto the wilderness of Sin, which between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month of their going out from the land of Egypt.

Tutta la comunità dei figli d’Israele partì da Elim e giunse al deserto di Sin, che è tra Elim e il Sinai, il quindicesimo giorno del secondo mese dopo la loro partenza dal paese d’Egitto.

2 A nd all the company of the sons of Israel murmur against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;

Tutta la comunità dei figli d’Israele mormorò contro Mosè e contro Aaronne nel deserto.

3 a nd the sons of Israel say unto them, `Oh that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, in our sitting by the flesh-pot, in our eating bread to satiety -- for ye have brought us out unto this wilderness to put all this assembly to death with hunger.'

I figli d’Israele dissero loro: «Fossimo pur morti per mano del Signore nel paese d’Egitto, quando sedevamo intorno a pentole piene di carne e mangiavamo pane a sazietà! Voi ci avete condotti in questo deserto perché tutta questa assemblea morisse di fame!»

4 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Lo, I am raining to you bread from the heavens -- and the people have gone out and gathered the matter of a day in its day -- so that I try them whether they walk in My law, or not;

Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: «Ecco, io farò piovere pane dal cielo per voi; il popolo uscirà e ne raccoglierà ogni giorno il necessario per la giornata; così lo metterò alla prova e vedrò se cammina o no secondo la mia legge.

5 a nd it hath been on the sixth day, that they have prepared that which they bring in, and it hath been double above that which they gather day day.'

Ma il sesto giorno, quando prepareranno quello che hanno portato a casa, dovrà essere il doppio di quello che raccolgono ogni altro giorno».

6 A nd Moses saith -- Aaron also -- unto all the sons of Israel, `Evening -- and ye have known that Jehovah hath brought you out from the land of Egypt;

Mosè e Aaronne dissero a tutti i figli d’Israele: «Questa sera voi conoscerete che il Signore è colui che vi ha fatti uscire dal paese d’Egitto.

7 a nd morning -- and ye have seen the honour of Jehovah, in His hearing your murmurings against Jehovah, and what we, that ye murmur against us?'

Domattina vedrete la gloria del Signore, poiché egli ha udito i vostri mormorii contro il Signore. Quanto a noi, che cosa siamo perché mormoriate contro di noi?»

8 A nd Moses saith, `In Jehovah's giving to you in the evening flesh to eat, and bread in the morning to satiety -- in Jehovah's hearing your murmurings, which ye are murmuring against Him, and what we? your murmurings not against us, but against Jehovah.'

E Mosè disse: «Vedrete la gloria del Signore quando stasera egli vi darà carne da mangiare e domattina pane a sazietà; perché il Signore ha udito le lagnanze che voi mormorate contro di lui. Noi infatti, che cosa siamo? I vostri mormorii non sono contro di noi, ma contro il Signore ».

9 A nd Moses saith unto Aaron, `Say unto all the company of the sons of Israel, Come ye near before Jehovah, for He hath heard your murmurings;'

Poi Mosè disse ad Aaronne: «Di’ a tutta la comunità dei figli d’Israele: “Avvicinatevi alla presenza del Signore, perché egli ha udito i vostri mormorii”».

10 a nd it cometh to pass, when Aaron is speaking unto all the company of the sons of Israel, that they turn towards the wilderness, and lo, the honour of Jehovah is seen in the cloud.

Mentre Aaronne parlava a tutta la comunità dei figli d’Israele, questi volsero gli occhi verso il deserto, ed ecco la gloria del Signore apparire nella nuvola.

11 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

E il Signore disse a Mosè:

12 ` I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel; speak unto them, saying, Between the evenings ye eat flesh, and in the morning ye are satisfied bread, and ye have known that I Jehovah your God.'

«Io ho udito i mormorii dei figli d’Israele; parla loro così: “Al tramonto mangerete carne e domattina sarete saziati di pane; e conoscerete che io sono il Signore, il vostro Dio”».

13 A nd it cometh to pass in the evening, that the quail cometh up, and covereth the camp, and in the morning there hath been the lying of dew round about the camp,

La sera stessa arrivarono delle quaglie che ricoprirono il campo. La mattina c’era uno strato di rugiada intorno al campo;

14 a nd the lying of the dew goeth up, and lo, on the face of the wilderness a thin, bare thing, thin as hoar-frost on the earth.

e quando lo strato di rugiada fu sparito, ecco sulla superficie del deserto una cosa minuta, tonda, minuta come brina sulla terra.

15 A nd the sons of Israel see, and say one unto another, `What it?' for they have not known what it; and Moses saith unto them, `It the bread which Jehovah hath given to you for food.

I figli d’Israele, quando l’ebbero vista, si dissero l’un l’altro: «Che cos’è? » perché non sapevano che cosa fosse. Mosè disse loro: «Questo è il pane che il Signore vi dà da mangiare.

16 ` This the thing which Jehovah hath commanded: Gather of it each according to his eating, an omer for a poll; and the number of your persons, take ye each for those in his tent.'

Ecco quello che il Signore ha comandato: “Ognuno ne raccolga quanto gli basta per il suo nutrimento: un omer a testa, secondo il numero delle persone che vivono con voi; ognuno ne prenda per quelli che sono nella sua tenda”».

17 A nd the sons of Israel do so, and they gather, he who is much, and he who is little;

I figli d’Israele fecero così, ne raccolsero gli uni più e gli altri meno.

18 a nd they measure with an omer, and he who is much hath nothing over, and he who is little hath no lack, each according to his eating they have gathered.

Lo misurarono con l’omer; chi ne aveva raccolto molto non ne ebbe in eccesso; e chi ne aveva raccolto poco non gliene mancava. Ognuno ne raccolse quanto gliene occorreva per il suo nutrimento.

19 A nd Moses saith unto them, `Let no man leave of it till morning;'

Mosè disse loro: «Nessuno ne conservi fino a domattina».

20 a nd they have not hearkened unto Moses, and some of them do leave of it till morning, and it bringeth up worms and stinketh; and Moses is wroth with them.

Ma alcuni non ubbidirono a Mosè e ne conservarono fino all’indomani. Quello imputridì e fu infestato dai vermi; e Mosè si adirò contro costoro.

21 A nd they gather it morning by morning, each according to his eating; when the sun hath been warm, then it hath melted.

Così lo raccoglievano tutte le mattine: ciascuno nella misura che bastava al suo nutrimento; e quando il sole diventava caldo, quello si scioglieva.

22 A nd it cometh to pass on the sixth day, they have gathered a second bread, two omers for one, and all the princes of the company come in, and declare to Moses.

Il sesto giorno raccolsero il doppio di quel pane: due omer per ciascuno. Tutti i capi della comunità vennero a dirlo a Mosè.

23 A nd he saith unto them, `It that which Jehovah hath spoken; a rest -- a holy sabbath to Jehovah -- to-morrow; that which ye bake, bake; and that which ye boil, boil; and all that is over, let rest for yourselves in charge till the morning.'

Ed egli disse loro: «Questo è quello che ha detto il Signore: “Domani è un giorno solenne di riposo: un sabato sacro al Signore; fate cuocere oggi quello che avete da cuocere, e fate bollire quello che avete da bollire; tutto quel che vi avanza, riponetelo e conservatelo fino a domani”».

24 A nd they let it rest until the morning, as Moses hath commanded, and it hath not stank, and a worm hath not been in it.

Essi dunque lo misero da parte fino all’indomani, come Mosè aveva ordinato, e quello non imputridì e non fu infestato dai vermi.

25 A nd Moses saith, `Eat it to-day, for to-day a sabbath to Jehovah; to-day ye find it not in the field:

Mosè disse: «Mangiatelo oggi, perché oggi è il sabato sacro al Signore; oggi non ne troverete nei campi.

26 s ix days ye do gather it, and in the seventh day -- the sabbath -- in it there is none.'

Raccoglietene durante sei giorni; ma il settimo giorno è il sabato; in quel giorno non ve ne sarà».

27 A nd it cometh to pass on the seventh day, some of the people have gone out to gather, and have not found.

Il settimo giorno alcuni del popolo uscirono per raccoglierne, ma non ne trovarono.

28 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `How long have ye refused to keep My commands, and My laws?

Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: «Fino a quando rifiuterete di osservare i miei comandamenti e le mie leggi?

29 s ee, because Jehovah hath given to you the sabbath, therefore He is giving to you on the sixth day bread of two days; abide ye each his place, no one doth go out from his place on the seventh day.'

Guardate che il Signore vi ha dato il sabato. Per questo, il sesto giorno egli vi dà del pane per due giorni. Perciò ognuno stia dov’è, nessuno esca dalla sua tenda il settimo giorno».

30 A nd the people rest on the seventh day,

Così il popolo si riposò il settimo giorno.

31 a nd the house of Israel call its name Manna, and it as coriander seed, white; and its taste as a cake with honey.

La casa d’Israele chiamò quel pane manna; esso era simile al seme del coriandolo; era bianco, e aveva il gusto di schiacciata fatta col miele.

32 A nd Moses saith, `This the thing which Jehovah hath commanded: Fill the omer with it, for a charge for your generations, so that they see the bread which I have caused you to eat in the wilderness, in My bringing you out from the land of Egypt.'

Mosè disse: «Questo è quello che il Signore ha ordinato: “Riempi un omer di manna, perché sia conservato per i vostri discendenti, perché vedano il pane col quale vi ho nutriti nel deserto, quando vi ho fatti uscire dal paese d’Egitto”».

33 A nd Moses saith unto Aaron, `Take one pot, and put there the fulness of the omer of manna, and let it rest before Jehovah, for a charge for your generations;'

E Mosè disse ad Aaronne: «Prendi un vaso, mettici dentro un omer di manna, e deponilo davanti al Signore, perché sia conservato per i vostri discendenti».

34 a s Jehovah hath given commandment unto Moses, so doth Aaron let it rest before the Testimony, for a charge.

Secondo l’ordine che il Signore aveva dato a Mosè, Aaronne lo depose davanti alla Testimonianza, perché fosse conservato.

35 A nd the sons of Israel have eaten the manna forty years, until their coming in unto the land to be inhabited; the manna they have eaten till their coming in unto the extremity of the land of Canaan.

I figli d’Israele mangiarono la manna per quarant’anni, finché arrivarono in terra abitata. Mangiarono la manna finché giunsero ai confini del paese di Canaan.

36 a nd the omer is a tenth of the ephah.

L’omer è la decima parte dell’efa.
