1 W herefore no longer forbearing, we thought good to be left in Athens alone,

Perciò, non potendo più resistere, preferimmo restare soli ad Atene;

2 a nd did send Timotheus -- our brother, and a ministrant of God, and our fellow-workman in the good news of the Christ -- to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith,

e mandammo Timoteo, nostro fratello e collaboratore di Dio nel vangelo di Cristo, per confermarvi e confortarvi nella vostra fede,

3 t hat no one be moved in these tribulations, for yourselves have known that for this we are set,

affinché nessuno fosse scosso in mezzo a queste tribolazioni; infatti voi stessi sapete che a questo siamo destinati.

4 f or even when we were with you, we said to you beforehand, that we are about to suffer tribulation, as also it did come to pass, and ye have known;

Perché anche quando eravamo tra di voi, vi preannunciavamo che avremmo dovuto soffrire, come poi è avvenuto, e voi lo sapete.

5 b ecause of this also, I, no longer forbearing, did send to know your faith, lest he who is tempting did tempt you, and in vain might be our labour.

Perciò anch’io, non potendo più resistere, mandai a informarmi della vostra fede, temendo che il tentatore vi avesse tentati, e la nostra fatica fosse risultata vana.

6 A nd now Timotheus having come unto us from you, and having declared good news to us of your faith and love, and that ye have a good remembrance of us always, desiring much to see us, as we also you,

Ma ora Timoteo è ritornato e ci ha recato buone notizie della vostra fede e del vostro amore, e ci ha detto che conservate sempre un buon ricordo di noi e desiderate vederci, come anche noi desideriamo vedere voi.

7 b ecause of this we were comforted, brethren, over you, in all our tribulation and necessity, through your faith,

Per questa ragione, fratelli, siamo stati consolati a vostro riguardo, a motivo della vostra fede, pur fra tutte le nostre angustie e afflizioni;

8 b ecause now we live, if ye may stand fast in the Lord;

perché ora, se state saldi nel Signore, ci sentiamo rivivere.

9 f or what thanks are we able to recompense to God for you, for all the joy with which we do joy because of you in the presence of our God?

Come potremmo, infatti, esprimere a Dio la nostra gratitudine a vostro riguardo, per la gioia che ci date davanti al nostro Dio,

10 n ight and day exceedingly beseeching, that we might see your face, and perfect the things lacking in your faith.

mentre notte e giorno preghiamo intensamente di poter vedere il vostro volto e di colmare le lacune della vostra fede?

11 A nd our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you,

Ora Dio stesso, nostro Padre, e il nostro Signore Gesù ci appianino la via per venire da voi;

12 a nd you the Lord cause to increase and to abound in the love to one another, and to all, even as we also to you,

e quanto a voi, il Signore vi faccia crescere e abbondare in amore gli uni verso gli altri e verso tutti, come anche noi abbondiamo verso di voi,

13 t o the establishing your hearts blameless in sanctification before our God and Father, in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.

per rendere i vostri cuori saldi, irreprensibili in santità davanti a Dio nostro Padre, quando il nostro Signore Gesù verrà con tutti i suoi santi.
