1 T o the Overseer. -- A Psalm of David. O God of my praise, be not silent,

Al direttore del coro. Salmo di Davide. Dio della mia lode, non tacere,

2 F or the mouth of wickedness, and the mouth of deceit, Against me they have opened, They have spoken with me -- A tongue of falsehood, and words of hatred!

perché la bocca dell’empio e la bocca del disonesto si sono aperte contro di me; mi hanno parlato con lingua bugiarda.

3 T hey have compassed me about, And they fight me without cause.

Mi hanno assalito con parole d’odio e mi hanno fatto guerra senza motivo.

4 F or my love they oppose me, and I -- prayer!

In cambio della mia amicizia, mi accusano, e io non faccio che pregare.

5 A nd they set against me evil for good, And hatred for my love.

Essi mi hanno reso male per bene, e odio in cambio di amore.

6 A ppoint Thou over him the wicked, And an adversary standeth at his right hand.

Suscita un empio contro di lui, e un accusatore stia alla sua destra.

7 I n his being judged, he goeth forth wicked, And his prayer is for sin.

Quando sarà giudicato, esca condannato, e la sua preghiera gli sia imputata come peccato.

8 H is days are few, his oversight another taketh,

Siano pochi i suoi giorni: un altro prenda il suo posto.

9 H is sons are fatherless, and his wife a widow.

I suoi figli diventino orfani e sua moglie vedova.

10 A nd wander continually do his sons, Yea, they have begged, And have sought out of their dry places.

I suoi figli siano vagabondi e mendicanti e cerchino il pane lontano dalle loro case in rovina.

11 A n exactor layeth a snare for all that he hath, And strangers spoil his labour.

L’usuraio divori tutto il suo patrimonio ed estranei lo spoglino del frutto delle sue fatiche.

12 H e hath none to extend kindness, Nor is there one showing favour to his orphans.

Nessuno sia misericordioso con lui e nessuno abbia pietà dei suoi orfani.

13 H is posterity is for cutting off, In another generation is their name blotted out.

La sua discendenza sia distrutta; nella seconda generazione sia cancellato il loro nome!

14 T he iniquity of his fathers Is remembered unto Jehovah, And the sin of his mother is not blotted out.

L’iniquità dei suoi padri sia ricordata dal Signore e il peccato di sua madre non sia cancellato.

15 T hey are before Jehovah continually, And He cutteth off from earth their memorial.

Siano quei peccati sempre davanti al Signore, e faccia egli sparire dalla terra il ricordo di lui.

16 B ecause that he hath not remembered to do kindness, And pursueth the poor man and needy, And the smitten of heart -- to slay,

Infatti non si è ricordato di fare il bene, ma ha perseguitato il misero, il povero e chi ha il cuore spezzato, per farlo morire.

17 A nd he loveth reviling, and it meeteth him, And he hath not delighted in blessing, And it is far from him.

Egli ha amato la maledizione: essa ricada su di lui! Non si è compiaciuto nella benedizione: questa se ne stia lontana da lui!

18 A nd he putteth on reviling as his robe, And it cometh in as water into his midst, And as oil into his bones.

Si è coperto di maledizione come se fosse il suo vestito; essa è penetrata come acqua dentro di lui, e come olio nelle sue ossa.

19 I t is to him as apparel -- he covereth himself, And for a continual girdle he girdeth it on.

Sia per lui come vestito che lo ricopre, come cintura che lo lega per sempre!

20 T his the wage of mine accusers from Jehovah, And of those speaking evil against my soul.

Sia questa da parte del Signore la ricompensa per i miei avversari e per quanti proferiscono del male contro l’anima mia.

21 A nd Thou, O Jehovah Lord, Deal with me for Thy name's sake, Because Thy kindness good, deliver me.

Ma tu, o Dio, Signore, intervieni in mio favore, per amore del tuo nome; salvami, perché la tua misericordia è benevola.

22 F or I poor and needy, And my heart hath been pierced in my midst.

Io sono misero e povero e il mio cuore è ferito dentro di me.

23 A s a shadow when it is stretched out I have gone, I have been driven away as a locust.

Me ne vado come ombra che si allunga, sono cacciato via come una cavalletta.

24 M y knees have been feeble from fasting, And my flesh hath failed of fatness.

Le mie ginocchia vacillano per il digiuno e il mio corpo è gracile e deperisce.

25 A nd I -- I have been a reproach to them, They see me, they shake their head.

Sono diventato per loro un oggetto di scherno; quando mi vedono scuotono il capo.

26 H elp me, O Jehovah my God, Save me, according to Thy kindness.

Aiutami, o Signore, mio Dio, salvami per la tua grazia,

27 A nd they know that this Thy hand, Thou, O Jehovah, Thou hast done it.

e sappiano che questo è opera della tua mano, che sei tu, o Signore, che l’hai fatto.

28 T hey revile, and Thou dost bless, They have risen, and are ashamed, And Thy servant doth rejoice.

Essi maledicono, ma tu benedirai; s’innalzano e resteranno confusi, ma il tuo servo esulterà.

29 M ine accusers put on blushing, and are covered, As an upper robe their shame.

I miei avversari saranno coperti d’infamia e avvolti di vergogna come di un mantello!

30 I thank Jehovah greatly with my mouth, And in the midst of many I praise Him,

A voce alta celebrerò il Signore, lo loderò in mezzo all’assemblea,

31 F or He standeth at the right hand of the needy, To save from those judging his soul.

poiché egli sta alla destra del povero per salvarlo da quelli che lo condannano a morte.
