1 A nd the sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, take each his censer, and put in them fire, and put on it perfume, and bring near before Jehovah strange fire, which He hath not commanded them;

Nadab e Abiu, figli di Aaronne, presero ciascuno il suo turibolo, vi misero dentro del fuoco, vi posero sopra dell’incenso e offrirono davanti al Signore del fuoco estraneo, diverso da ciò che egli aveva loro ordinato.

2 a nd fire goeth out from before Jehovah, and consumeth them, and they die before Jehovah.

Allora un fuoco uscì dalla presenza del Signore e li divorò; così morirono davanti al Signore.

3 A nd Moses saith unto Aaron, `It that which Jehovah hath spoken, saying, By those drawing near to Me I am sanctified, and in the face of all the people I am honoured;' and Aaron is silent.

Allora Mosè disse ad Aaronne: «Questo è quello di cui il Signore ha parlato, quando ha detto: “Io sarò santificato per mezzo di quelli che mi stanno vicino e sarò glorificato in presenza di tutto il popolo”». Aaronne tacque.

4 A nd Moses calleth unto Mishael and unto Elzaphan, sons of Uzziel, uncle of Aaron, and saith unto them, `Come near, bear your brethren from the front of the sanctuary unto the outside of the camp;'

Mosè chiamò Misael ed Elsafan, figli di Uziel, zio di Aaronne, e disse loro: «Avvicinatevi, portate via i vostri fratelli dal santuario, fuori dall’accampamento».

5 a nd they come near, and bear them in their coats unto the outside of the camp, as Moses hath spoken.

Essi si avvicinarono e li portarono via nelle loro tuniche, fuori dall’accampamento, come Mosè aveva detto.

6 A nd Moses saith unto Aaron, and to Eleazar, and to Ithamar his sons, `Your heads ye do not uncover, and your garments ye do not rend, that ye die not, and on all the company He be wroth; as to your brethren, the whole house of Israel, they bewail the burning which Jehovah hath kindled;

Mosè disse ad Aaronne, a Eleazar e a Itamar, suoi figli: «Non andate a capo scoperto e non vi stracciate le vesti, affinché non moriate, e il Signore non si adiri contro tutta la comunità; ma i vostri fratelli, tutta quanta la casa d’Israele, facciano pure cordoglio per quelli che il Signore ha bruciati.

7 a nd from the opening of the tent of meeting ye do not go out, lest ye die, for the anointing oil of Jehovah upon you;' and they do according to the word of Moses.

Non vi allontanate dall’ingresso della tenda di convegno, altrimenti morirete; perché l’olio dell’unzione del Signore è su di voi». Ed essi fecero come Mosè aveva detto. Vari doveri e diritti dei sacerdoti

8 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Aaron, saying,

Il Signore parlò ad Aaronne, e disse:

9 ` Wine and strong drink thou dost not drink, thou, and thy sons with thee, in your going in unto the tent of meeting, and ye die not -- a statute age-during to your generations;

«Tu e i tuoi figli non berrete vino né bevande alcoliche quando entrerete nella tenda di convegno, altrimenti morirete; sarà una legge perenne, di generazione in generazione;

10 s o as to make a separation between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the pure;

e questo perché possiate discernere ciò che è santo da ciò che è profano e ciò che è impuro da ciò che è puro,

11 a nd to teach the sons of Israel all the statutes which Jehovah hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.'

e possiate insegnare ai figli d’Israele tutte le leggi che il Signore ha date loro per mezzo di Mosè».

12 A nd Moses speaketh unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar, and unto Ithamar his sons, who are left, `Take ye the present that is left from the fire-offerings of Jehovah, and eat it unleavened near the altar, for it most holy,

Poi Mosè disse ad Aaronne, a Eleazar e a Itamar, i due figli che restavano ad Aaronne: «Prendete fra i sacrifici consumati dal fuoco per il Signore quello che rimane dell’oblazione e mangiatelo azzimo, presso l’altare, perché è cosa santissima.

13 a nd ye have eaten it in the holy place, for it thy portion, and the portion of thy sons, from the fire-offerings of Jehovah; for so I have been commanded.

Lo mangerete in luogo santo: è la parte che spetta a te e ai tuoi figli, dei sacrifici consumati dal fuoco per il Signore; poiché così mi è stato ordinato.

14 ` And the breast of the wave-offering, and the leg of the heave-offering, ye do eat in a clean place, thou, and thy sons, and thy daughters with thee; for thy portion and the portion of thy sons they have been given, out of the sacrifices of peace-offerings of the sons of Israel;

Il petto dell’offerta agitata e la coscia dell’offerta elevata li mangerete tu, i tuoi figli e le tue figlie con te, in luogo puro; perché vi sono stati dati come parte dei sacrifici di riconoscenza dei figli d’Israele, spettante a te e ai tuoi figli.

15 t he leg of the heave-offering, and breast of the wave-offering, besides fire-offerings of the fat, they do bring in to wave a wave-offering before Jehovah, and it hath been to thee, and to thy sons with thee, by a statute age-during, as Jehovah hath commanded.'

Oltre ai grassi da bruciare si porteranno la coscia dell’offerta elevata e il petto dell’offerta agitata, perché siano agitati davanti al Signore; anche questo apparterrà a te e ai tuoi figli con te, per diritto perenne, come il Signore ha ordinato».

16 A nd the goat of the sin-offering hath Moses diligently sought, and lo, it is burnt, and he is wroth against Eleazar, and against Ithamar, sons of Aaron, who are left, saying,

Mosè si mise alla ricerca del capro del sacrificio espiatorio, ma esso era stato bruciato; allora egli si adirò contro Eleazar e contro Itamar, i figli che erano rimasti ad Aaronne, e disse:

17 ` Wherefore have ye not eaten the sin-offering in the holy place, for it most holy -- and it He hath given to you to take away the iniquity of the company, to make atonement for them before Jehovah?

«Perché non avete mangiato il sacrificio espiatorio nel luogo santo? È cosa santissima. Il Signore ve l’ha dato perché portiate l’iniquità della comunità, e perché ne facciate l’espiazione davanti a lui.

18 l o, its blood hath not been brought in unto the holy place within; eating ye do eat it in the holy place, as I have commanded.'

Ecco, il sangue della vittima non è stato portato dentro il santuario. Voi avreste dovuto mangiarla nel santuario, come io avevo ordinato».

19 A nd Aaron speaketh unto Moses, `Lo, to-day they have brought near their sin-offering and their burnt-offering before Jehovah; and like these meet me, yet I have eaten a sin-offering to-day; is it good in the eyes of Jehovah?'

E Aaronne disse a Mosè: «Ecco, oggi essi hanno offerto il loro sacrificio espiatorio e il loro olocausto davanti al Signore; e, dopo le cose che mi sono successe, se oggi avessi mangiato la vittima del sacrificio espiatorio, sarebbe ciò piaciuto al Signore ?»

20 A nd Moses hearkeneth, and it is good in his eyes.

Quando Mosè udì questo, rimase soddisfatto.
