1 ` And this the command, the statutes and the judgments which Jehovah your God hath commanded to teach you, to do in the land which ye are passing over thither to possess it,

«Questi sono i comandamenti, le leggi e le prescrizioni che il Signore, il vostro Dio, ha ordinato di insegnarvi, perché li mettiate in pratica nel paese nel quale vi preparate a entrare per prenderne possesso,

2 s o that thou dost fear Jehovah thy God, to keep all His statutes and His commands, which I am commanding thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all days of thy life, and so that thy days are prolonged.

così che tu tema il tuo Dio, il Signore, osservando, tutti i giorni della tua vita, tu, tuo figlio e il figlio di tuo figlio, tutte le sue leggi e tutti i suoi comandamenti che io ti do, affinché i tuoi giorni siano prolungati.

3 ` And thou hast heard, O Israel, and observed to do, that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest multiply exceedingly, as Jehovah, God of thy fathers, hath spoken to thee, the land flowing with milk and honey.

Ascoltali dunque, Israele, e abbi cura di metterli in pratica, affinché venga a te del bene e vi moltiplichiate grandemente nel paese dove scorrono il latte e il miele, come il Signore, il Dio dei tuoi padri, ti ha detto.

4 ` Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God one Jehovah;

Ascolta, Israele: il Signore, il nostro Dio, è l’unico Signore.

5 a nd thou hast loved Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might,

Tu amerai dunque il Signore, il tuo Dio, con tutto il cuore, con tutta l’anima tua e con tutte le tue forze.

6 a nd these words which I am commanding thee to-day have been on thine heart,

Questi comandamenti, che oggi ti do, ti staranno nel cuore;

7 a nd thou hast repeated them to thy sons, and spoken of them in thy sitting in thine house, and in thy walking in the way, and in thy lying down, and in thy rising up,

li inculcherai ai tuoi figli, ne parlerai quando te ne starai seduto in casa tua, quando sarai per via, quando ti coricherai e quando ti alzerai.

8 a nd hast bound them for a sign upon thy hand, and they have been for frontlets between thine eyes,

Te li legherai alla mano come un segno, te li metterai sulla fronte in mezzo agli occhi

9 a nd thou hast written them on door-posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

e li scriverai sugli stipiti della tua casa e sulle porte della tua città.

10 ` And it hath been, when Jehovah thy God doth bring thee in unto the land which He hath sworn to thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to thee -- cities great and good, which thou hast not built,

«Quando il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti avrà fatto entrare nel paese che giurò ai tuoi padri, Abraamo, Isacco e Giacobbe, di darti; quando ti avrà condotto alle grandi e belle città che non hai edificate,

11 a nd houses full of all good things which thou hast not filled, and wells digged which thou hast not digged, vineyards and olive-yards which thou hast not planted, and thou hast eaten, and been satisfied;

alle case piene di ogni bene che non hai accumulato, alle cisterne che non hai scavate, alle vigne e agli uliveti che non hai piantati; quando mangerai e sarai sazio,

12 ` Take heed to thyself lest thou forget Jehovah who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants;

guàrdati dal dimenticare il Signore che ti ha fatto uscire dal paese d’Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.

13 J ehovah thy God thou dost fear, and Him thou dost serve, and by His name thou dost swear;

Temerai il Signore, il tuo Dio, lo servirai e giurerai nel suo nome.

14 y e do not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who round about you;

Non seguirete altri dèi, presi fra gli dèi degli altri popoli intorno a voi,

15 f or a zealous God Jehovah thy God in thy midst -- lest the anger of Jehovah thy God burn against thee, and He hath destroyed thee from off the face of the ground.

perché il tuo Dio, il Signore, che sta in mezzo a te, è un Dio geloso; l’ira del Signore tuo Dio si accenderebbe contro di te e ti farebbe scomparire dalla terra.

16 ` Ye do not try Jehovah your God as ye tried in Massah;

Non tenterete il Signore, il vostro Dio, come lo tentaste a Massa.

17 y e do diligently keep the commands of Jehovah your God, and His testimonies, and His statutes which He hath commanded thee,

Osserverete diligentemente i comandamenti del Signore, il vostro Dio, le sue istruzioni e le sue leggi che vi ha date.

18 a nd thou hast done that which is right and good in the eyes of Jehovah, so that it is well with thee, and thou hast gone in and possessed the good land which Jehovah hath sworn to thy fathers,

Farai ciò che è giusto e buono agli occhi del Signore, affinché venga a te del bene ed entri in possesso del buon paese che il Signore giurò ai tuoi padri di darti,

19 t o drive away all thine enemies from thy presence, as Jehovah hath spoken.

dopo che egli avrà scacciato tutti i tuoi nemici davanti a te, come il Signore ha promesso.

20 ` When thy son asketh thee hereafter, saying, What the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Jehovah our God hath commanded you?

Quando in avvenire tuo figlio ti domanderà: “Che significano queste istruzioni, queste leggi e queste prescrizioni che il Signore, il nostro Dio, vi ha date?”,

21 t hen thou hast said to thy son, Servants we have been to Pharaoh in Egypt, and Jehovah bringeth us out of Egypt by a high hand;

tu risponderai a tuo figlio: “Eravamo schiavi del faraone in Egitto e il Signore ci fece uscire dall’Egitto con mano potente.

22 a nd Jehovah giveth signs and wonders, great and sad, on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house, before our eyes;

Il Signore operò sotto i nostri occhi miracoli e prodigi grandi e disastrosi contro l’Egitto, contro il faraone e contro tutta la sua casa,

23 a nd us He hath brought out thence, in order to bring us in, to give to us the land which He had sworn to our fathers.

e ci fece uscire di là per condurci nel paese che aveva giurato ai nostri padri di darci.

24 A nd Jehovah commandeth us to do all these statutes, to fear Jehovah our God, for good to ourselves all the days, to keep us alive, as this day;

Il Signore ci ordinò di mettere in pratica tutte queste leggi e di temere il Signore, il nostro Dio, affinché venisse a noi del bene sempre ed egli ci conservasse in vita, come ha fatto finora.

25 a nd righteousness it is for us, when we observe to do all this command before Jehovah our God, as He hath commanded us.

Questa sarà la nostra giustizia: l’aver cura di mettere in pratica tutti questi comandamenti davanti al Signore nostro Dio, come egli ci ha ordinato”.
