1 T hen Darius the king made a decree, and they sought in the house of the books of the treasuries placed there in Babylon,

Allora il re Dario ordinò che si facessero delle ricerche negli archivi dove erano conservati i tesori a Babilonia.

2 a nd there hath been found at Achmetha, in a palace that in the province of Media, a roll, and a record thus written within it:

3 ` In the first year of Cyrus the king, Cyrus the king hath made a decree concerning the house of God in Jerusalem: the house let be builded in the place where they are sacrificing sacrifices, and its foundations strongly laid; its height sixty cubits, its breadth sixty cubits;

«Memoria. Il primo anno del re Ciro, il re Ciro ha pubblicato questo editto, concernente la casa di Dio a Gerusalemme: “La casa sia ricostruita per essere un luogo dove si offrono sacrifici; le fondamenta che verranno poste, siano solide; abbia sessanta cubiti d’altezza, sessanta cubiti di larghezza,

4 t hree rows of rolled stones, and a row of new wood, and the outlay let be given out of the king's house.

tre ordini di blocchi di pietra e un ordine di travatura nuova; la spesa sia pagata dalla casa reale;

5 ` And also, the vessels of the house of God, of gold and silver, that Nebuchadnezzar took forth out of the temple that in Jerusalem, and brought to Babylon, let be given back, and go to the temple that in Jerusalem, to its place, and put down in the house of God.

inoltre, gli utensili d’oro e d’argento della casa di Dio, che Nabucodonosor aveva tolti dal tempio di Gerusalemme e trasportati a Babilonia, siano restituiti e riportati al tempio di Gerusalemme, nel luogo dov’erano prima, e riposti nella casa di Dio”».

6 ` Now, Tatnai, governor beyond the river, Shethar-Boznai, and their companions, the Apharsachites, who beyond the river, be ye far from hence;

«Tu dunque, Tattenai, governatore d’oltre il fiume, tu, Setar-Boznai, e voi, loro colleghi di Afarsac, che state di là dal fiume, statevene lontani da quel luogo!

7 l et alone the work of this house of God, let the governor of the Jews, and the elders of the Jews, build this house of God on its place.

Lasciate continuare i lavori di quella casa di Dio. Il governatore dei Giudei e gli anziani dei Giudei ricostruiscano quella casa di Dio dov’era prima.

8 ` And by me is made a decree concerning that which ye do with the elders of these Jews to build this house of God, that of the riches of the king, that of the tribute beyond the river, speedily let the outlay be given to these men, that they cease not;

Io ho dato ordine su come dovrete comportarvi verso quegli anziani dei Giudei nella ricostruzione di quella casa di Dio: le spese siano puntualmente pagate a quegli uomini attingendo dalle entrate del re provenienti dai tributi d’oltre il fiume, in modo da non interrompere i lavori.

9 a nd what they are needing -- both young bullocks, and rams, and lambs for burnt-offerings to the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, and oil according to the saying of the priests who in Jerusalem -- let be given to them day by day without fail,

Le cose necessarie per gli olocausti al Dio dei cieli: vitelli, montoni, agnelli, frumento, sale, vino e olio, siano fornite ai sacerdoti di Gerusalemme su loro richiesta, giorno per giorno e senza negligenza,

10 t hat they be bringing near sweet savours to the God of heaven, and praying for the life of the king, and of his sons.

affinché offrano sacrifici di odore soave al Dio del cielo e preghino per la vita del re e dei suoi figli.

11 ` And by me is made a decree, that any one who changeth this thing, let wood be pulled down from his house, and being raised up, let him be smitten on it, and his house let be made a dunghill for this.

E io ho dato anche quest’ordine: se qualcuno contravverrà a questo decreto, si prenda dalla sua casa una trave, la si rizzi, vi sia inchiodato sopra, e la sua casa, per questo motivo, sia ridotta a letamaio.

12 A nd God, who caused His name to dwell there, doth cast down any king and people that putteth forth his hand to change, to destroy this house of God that in Jerusalem; I Darius have made a decree; speedily let it be done.'

Il Dio che ha fatto di quel luogo la dimora del suo nome, distrugga ogni re ed ogni popolo che alzi la mano per trasgredire la mia parola, per distruggere la casa di Dio che si trova a Gerusalemme! Io, Dario, ho emanato questo decreto, ed esso sia eseguito con diligenza». Inaugurazione del tempio

13 T hen Tatnai, governor beyond the river, Shethar-Boznai, and their companions, according to that which Darius the king hath sent, so they have done speedily;

Poiché il re Dario aveva così decretato, Tattenai, governatore d’oltre il fiume, Setar-Boznai e i loro colleghi eseguirono puntualmente i suoi ordini.

14 a nd the elders of the Jews are building and prospering through the prophecy of Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah son of Iddo, and they have built and finished by the decree of the God of Israel, and by the decree of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.

E gli anziani dei Giudei poterono continuare i lavori e far avanzare la costruzione, aiutati dalle parole ispirate del profeta Aggeo e di Zaccaria, figlio di Iddo. Così finirono i loro lavori di costruzione secondo il comandamento del Dio d’Israele, e secondo gli ordini di Ciro, di Dario e di Artaserse, re di Persia.

15 A nd this house hath gone out till the third day of the month Adar, that is the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.

La casa fu finita il terzo giorno del mese di Adar, il sesto anno del regno di Dario.

16 A nd the sons of Israel have made, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the sons of the captivity, a dedication of this house of God with joy,

I figli d’Israele, i sacerdoti, i Leviti e gli altri reduci dall’esilio celebrarono con gioia l’inaugurazione di questa casa di Dio.

17 a nd have brought near for the dedication of this house of God, bullocks a hundred, rams two hundred, lambs four hundred; and young he-goats for a sin-offering for all Israel, twelve, according to the number of the tribes of Israel;

Per l’inaugurazione di questo tempio di Dio offrirono cento tori, duecento montoni, quattrocento agnelli; e come sacrificio espiatorio per tutto Israele, dodici capri, secondo il numero delle tribù d’Israele.

18 a nd they have established the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their courses, over the service of God that in Jerusalem, as it is written in the book of Moses.

Stabilirono i sacerdoti secondo le loro classi e i Leviti secondo le loro divisioni, per il servizio di Dio a Gerusalemme, come sta scritto nel libro di Mosè.

19 A nd the sons of the captivity make the passover on the fourteenth of the first month,

Poi i reduci dall’esilio celebrarono la Pasqua il quattordicesimo giorno del primo mese;

20 f or the priests and the Levites have been purified together -- all of them pure -- and they slaughter the passover for all the sons of the captivity, and for their brethren the priests, and for themselves.

poiché i sacerdoti e i Leviti si erano purificati di pari consentimento, tutti erano puri; sacrificarono la Pasqua per tutti i reduci dall’esilio, per i sacerdoti loro fratelli e per sé stessi.

21 A nd the sons of Israel, those returning from the captivity, and every one who is separated from the uncleanness of the nations of the land unto them, to seek to Jehovah, God of Israel, do eat,

Così i figli d’Israele reduci dall’esilio mangiarono la Pasqua con tutti coloro che si erano separati dall’impurità della gente del paese e che si unirono a loro per cercare il Signore, Dio d’Israele.

22 a nd they make the feast of unleavened things seven days with joy, for Jehovah made them to rejoice, and turned round the heart of the king of Asshur unto them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.

Celebrarono con gioia la festa degli Azzimi per sette giorni, perché il Signore li aveva rallegrati, e aveva piegato in loro favore il cuore del re d’Assiria in modo da fortificare le loro mani nell’opera della casa di Dio, Dio d’Israele.
