1 A nd it cometh to pass, after these things, that saith to Joseph, `Lo, thy father is sick;' and he taketh his two sons with him, Manasseh and Ephraim.

Dopo queste cose, fu detto a Giuseppe: «Ecco, tuo padre è ammalato». Allora egli prese con sé i suoi due figli, Manasse ed Efraim.

2 A nd declareth to Jacob, and saith, `Lo, thy son Joseph is coming unto thee;' and Israel doth strengthen himself, and sit upon the bed.

Giacobbe ne fu informato e gli fu detto: «Ecco, tuo figlio Giuseppe viene da te». Israele raccolse le sue forze e si mise seduto sul letto.

3 A nd Jacob saith unto Joseph, `God Almighty hath appeared unto me, in Luz, in the land of Canaan, and blesseth me,

Giacobbe disse a Giuseppe: «Il Dio onnipotente mi apparve a Luz nel paese di Canaan, mi benedisse

4 a nd saith unto me, Lo, I am making thee fruitful, and have multiplied thee, and given thee for an assembly of peoples, and given this land to thy seed after thee, a possession age-during.

e mi disse: “Ecco, io ti renderò fecondo, ti moltiplicherò, ti farò diventare una moltitudine di popoli e darò questo paese alla tua discendenza dopo di te, come proprietà perenne”.

5 ` And now, thy two sons, who are born to thee in the land of Egypt, before my coming unto thee to Egypt, mine they; Ephraim and Manasseh, as Reuben and Simeon they are mine;

Ora, i tuoi due figli che ti sono nati nel paese d’Egitto prima che io venissi da te in Egitto sono miei. Efraim e Manasse saranno miei, come Ruben e Simeone.

6 a nd thy family which thou hast begotten after them are thine; by the name of their brethren they are called in their inheritance.

Ma i figli che hai generato dopo di loro saranno tuoi; essi saranno chiamati col nome dei loro fratelli, quanto alla loro eredità.

7 ` And I -- in my coming in from Padan- Rachel hath died by me in the land of Canaan, in the way, while yet a kibrath of land to enter Ephrata, and I bury her there in the way of Ephrata, which Bethlehem.'

Quanto a me, mentre tornavo da Paddan, Rachele mi morì nel paese di Canaan, durante il viaggio, a qualche distanza da Efrata; e la seppellii in quel luogo, sulla via di Efrata, che è Betlemme».

8 A nd Israel seeth the sons of Joseph, and saith, `Who these?'

Israele guardò i figli di Giuseppe e disse: «Questi chi sono?»

9 a nd Joseph saith unto his father, `They my sons, whom God hath given to me in this;' and he saith, `Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I bless them.'

Giuseppe rispose a suo padre: «Sono i miei figli, che Dio mi ha dati qui». Ed egli disse: «Ti prego, falli avvicinare a me e io li benedirò».

10 A nd the eyes of Israel have been heavy from age, he is unable to see; and he bringeth them nigh unto him, and he kisseth them, and cleaveth to them;

Gli occhi d’Israele erano annebbiati per l’età e non ci vedeva più. Giuseppe li fece avvicinare a lui ed egli li baciò e li abbracciò.

11 a nd Israel saith unto Joseph, `To see thy face I had not thought, and lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.'

Israele disse a Giuseppe: «Io non pensavo più di rivedere il tuo volto ed ecco che Dio mi ha dato di vedere anche la tua prole».

12 A nd Joseph bringeth them out from between his knees, and boweth himself on his face to the earth;

Giuseppe li allontanò dalle ginocchia di suo padre e si prostrò con la faccia a terra.

13 a nd Joseph taketh them both, Ephraim in his right hand towards Israel's left, and Manasseh in his left towards Israel's right, and bringeth nigh to him.

Poi Giuseppe li prese tutti e due: Efraim alla sua destra, alla sinistra d’Israele, e Manasse alla sua sinistra, alla destra d’Israele, e li fece avvicinare a lui.

14 A nd Israel putteth out his right hand, and placeth upon the head of Ephraim, who the younger, and his left hand upon the head of Manasseh; he hath guided his hands wisely, for Manasseh the first-born.

E Israele stese la sua mano destra e la posò sul capo di Efraim, che era il più giovane, e posò la sua mano sinistra sul capo di Manasse, incrociando le mani; perché Manasse era il primogenito.

15 A nd he blesseth Joseph, and saith, `God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked habitually: God who is feeding me from my being unto this day:

Benedisse Giuseppe e disse: «Il Dio alla cui presenza camminarono i miei padri Abraamo e Isacco, il Dio che è stato il mio pastore da quando esisto fino a questo giorno,

16 t he Messenger who is redeeming me from all evil doth bless the youths, and my name is called upon them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and they increase into a multitude in the midst of the land.'

l’angelo che mi ha liberato da ogni male, benedica questi ragazzi! Siano chiamati con il mio nome, con il nome dei miei padri, Abraamo e Isacco, e si moltiplichino abbondantemente sulla terra!»

17 A nd Joseph seeth that his father setteth his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and it is wrong in his eyes, and he supporteth the hand of his father to turn it aside from off the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh;

Quando Giuseppe vide che suo padre posava la mano destra sul capo di Efraim, ne ebbe dispiacere e prese la mano di suo padre per levarla dal capo di Efraim e metterla sul capo di Manasse.

18 a nd Joseph saith unto his father, `Not so, my father, for this the first-born; set thy right hand on his head.'

Giuseppe disse a suo padre: «Non così, padre mio, perché questo è il primogenito; metti la tua mano destra sul suo capo».

19 A nd his father refuseth, and saith, `I have known, my son, I have known; he also becometh a people, and he also is great, and yet, his young brother is greater than he, and his seed is the fulness of the nations;'

Ma suo padre rifiutò e disse: «Lo so, figlio mio, lo so; anch’egli diventerà un popolo; anch’egli sarà grande; nondimeno il suo fratello più giovane sarà più grande di lui e la sua discendenza diventerà una moltitudine di nazioni».

20 a nd he blesseth them in that day, saying, `By thee doth Israel bless, saying, God set thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh;' and he setteth Ephraim before Manasseh.

In quel giorno li benedisse, dicendo: «Di te si servirà Israele per benedire, e dirà: “Dio ti faccia simile a Efraim e a Manasse!”». E mise Efraim prima di Manasse.

21 A nd Israel saith unto Joseph, `Lo, I am dying, and God hath been with you, and hath brought you back unto the land of your fathers;

Poi Israele disse a Giuseppe: «Ecco, io muoio; ma Dio sarà con voi e vi farà ritornare nel paese dei vostri padri.

22 a nd I -- I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I have taken out of the hand of the Amorite by my sword and by my bow.'

Io ti do una parte di più che ai tuoi fratelli: quella che conquistai dalle mani degli Amorei, con la mia spada e con il mio arco».
