1 B y David. Do not fret because of evil doers, Be not envious against doers of iniquity,

2 F or as grass speedily they are cut off, And as the greenness of the tender grass do fade.

3 T rust in Jehovah, and do good, Dwell the land, and enjoy faithfulness,

Confida nel Signore e fa’ il bene; abita il paese e pratica la fedeltà.

4 A nd delight thyself on Jehovah, And He giveth to thee the petitions of thy heart.

Trova la tua gioia nel Signore ed egli appagherà i desideri del tuo cuore.

5 R oll on Jehovah thy way, And trust upon Him, and He worketh,

Riponi la tua sorte nel Signore; confida in lui, ed egli agirà.

6 A nd hath brought out as light thy righteousness, And thy judgment as noon-day.

Egli farà risplendere la tua giustizia come la luce e il tuo diritto come il sole di mezzogiorno.

7 B e silent for Jehovah, and stay thyself for Him, Do not fret because of him Who is making prosperous his way, Because of a man doing wicked devices.

Sta’ in silenzio davanti al Signore, e aspettalo; non adirarti per chi prospera nelle sue imprese, per l’uomo che ha successo nei suoi malvagi progetti.

8 D esist from anger, and forsake fury, Fret not thyself only to do evil.

Cessa dall’ira e lascia lo sdegno; non adirarti, ciò spingerebbe anche te a fare il male.

9 F or evil doers are cut off, As to those waiting on Jehovah, they possess the land.

Poiché i malvagi saranno sterminati; ma quelli che sperano nel Signore possederanno la terra.

10 A nd yet a little, and the wicked is not, And thou hast considered his place, and it is not.

Ancora un po’ e l’empio scomparirà; tu osserverai il luogo dove si trovava, ed egli non ci sarà più.

11 A nd the humble do possess the land, And they have delighted themselves In the abundance of peace.

Ma gli umili erediteranno la terra e godranno di una gran pace.

12 T he wicked is devising against the righteous, And gnashing against him his teeth.

L’empio tende insidie al giusto e digrigna i denti contro di lui.

13 T he Lord doth laugh at him, For He hath seen that his day cometh.

Il Signore ride dell’empio, perché vede avvicinarsi il giorno della sua rovina.

14 A sword have the wicked opened, And they have trodden their bow, To cause to fall the poor and needy, To slaughter the upright of the way.

Gli empi hanno tratto la spada e teso il loro arco per abbattere il misero e il bisognoso, per sgozzare quelli che vanno per la retta via.

15 T heir sword doth enter into their own heart, And their bows are shivered.

La loro spada penetrerà nel loro cuore e i loro archi si spezzeranno.

16 B etter the little of the righteous, Than the store of many wicked.

Il poco del giusto vale più dell’abbondanza degli empi.

17 F or the arms of the wicked are shivered, And Jehovah is sustaining the righteous.

Perché le braccia degli empi saranno spezzate; ma il Signore sostiene i giusti.

18 J ehovah knoweth the days of the perfect, And their inheritance is -- to the age.

Il Signore conosce i giorni degli uomini integri; la loro eredità durerà in eterno.

19 T hey are not ashamed in a time of evil, And in days of famine they are satisfied.

Non saranno confusi in tempo di sventura, ma saranno saziati in tempo di fame.

20 B ut the wicked perish, and the enemies of Jehovah, As the preciousness of lambs, Have been consumed, In smoke they have been consumed.

Gli empi periranno; i nemici del Signore, come grasso d’agnelli, saranno consumati e andranno in fumo.

21 T he wicked is borrowing and repayeth not, And the righteous is gracious and giving.

L’empio prende in prestito e non restituisce; ma il giusto ha pietà e dona.

22 F or His blessed ones do possess the land, And His reviled ones are cut off.

Chi è benedetto da Dio erediterà la terra, ma chi è maledetto sarà sterminato.

23 F rom Jehovah the steps of a man, They have been prepared, And his way he desireth.

I passi dell’onesto sono guidati dal Signore; egli gradisce le sue vie.

24 W hen he falleth, he is not cast down, For Jehovah is sustaining his hand.

Se cade, non è però abbattuto, perché il Signore lo sostiene prendendolo per mano.

25 Y oung I have been, I have also become old, And I have not seen the righteous forsaken, And his seed seeking bread.

Io sono stato giovane e sono anche divenuto vecchio, ma non ho mai visto il giusto abbandonato, né la sua discendenza mendicare il pane.

26 A ll the day he is gracious and lending, And his seed for a blessing.

Tutti i giorni è pietoso e dà in prestito, la sua discendenza è benedetta.

27 T urn aside from evil, and do good, and dwell to the age.

Allontànati dal male e fa’ il bene; dimorerai nel paese per sempre.

28 F or Jehovah is loving judgment, And He doth not forsake His saintly ones, To the age they have been kept, And the seed of the wicked is cut off.

Poiché il Signore ama la giustizia e non abbandona i suoi santi; essi sono conservati in eterno; ma la discendenza degli empi sarà sterminata.

29 T he righteous possess the land, And they dwell for ever on it.

I giusti erediteranno la terra e l’abiteranno per sempre.

30 T he mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, And his tongue speaketh judgment.

La bocca del giusto esprime parole sagge e la sua lingua parla con giustizia.

31 T he law of his God his heart, His steps do not slide.

La legge di Dio è nel suo cuore; i suoi passi non vacilleranno.

32 T he wicked is watching for the righteous, And is seeking to put him to death.

L’empio spia il giusto e cerca di farlo morire.

33 J ehovah doth not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him in his being judged.

Il Signore non l’abbandona nelle sue mani e non lo condanna quando egli viene giudicato.

34 L ook unto Jehovah, and keep His way, And He doth exalt thee to possess the land, In the wicked being cut off -- thou seest!

Spera nel Signore e segui la sua via; egli ti esalterà perché tu possieda la terra e veda lo sterminio degli empi.

35 I have seen the wicked terrible, And spreading as a green native plant,

Ho visto l’uomo malvagio e prepotente ergersi come albero verdeggiante sul suolo natìo,

36 A nd he passeth away, and lo, he is not, And I seek him, and he is not found!

ma poi è scomparso, ed ecco, non c’è più; io l’ho cercato, ma non si è più trovato.

37 O bserve the perfect, and see the upright, For the latter end of each peace.

Osserva l’uomo integro e considera l’uomo retto, perché l’uomo di pace avrà una discendenza.

38 A nd transgressors were destroyed together, The latter end of the wicked was cut off.

Ma tutti i malvagi saranno distrutti; la discendenza degli empi sarà sterminata.

39 A nd the salvation of the righteous from Jehovah, Their strong place in a time of adversity.

La salvezza dei giusti proviene dal Signore; egli è la loro difesa in tempo d’angoscia.

40 A nd Jehovah doth help them and deliver them, He delivereth them from the wicked, And saveth them, Because they trusted in Him!

Il Signore li aiuta e li libera; li libera dagli empi e li salva, perché si sono rifugiati in lui.
