1 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

Poi il Signore disse a Mosè:

2 ` Speak unto the sons of Israel, and take from them each a rod, for a father's house, from all their princes, for the house of their fathers, twelve rods; the name of each thou dost write on his rod,

«Parla ai figli d’Israele e fatti dare delle verghe, una per ogni casa patriarcale; una verga per ogni capo di casa patriarcale, cioè dodici verghe. Scriverai il nome di ognuno sulla sua verga;

3 a nd Aaron's name thou dost write on the tribe of Levi; for one rod for the head of their fathers' house:

e scriverai il nome di Aaronne sulla verga di Levi, poiché ci sarà una verga per il capo di ogni casa patriarcale.

4 a nd thou hast placed them in the tent of meeting, before the testimony, where I meet with you.

Metterai quelle verghe nella tenda di convegno, davanti alla testimonianza, dove io mi ritrovo con voi.

5 ` And it hath come to pass, the man's rod on whom I fix doth flourish, and I have caused to cease from off me the murmurings of the sons of Israel, which they are murmuring against you.'

E avverrà che l’uomo che io avrò scelto sarà quello la cui verga fiorirà; così farò cessare davanti a me i mormorii che i figli d’Israele fanno contro di voi».

6 A nd Moses speaketh unto the sons of Israel, and all their princes give unto him one rod for a prince, one rod for a prince, for their fathers' house, twelve rods, and the rod of Aaron in the midst of their rods;

Mosè parlò ai figli d’Israele e tutti i loro capi gli diedero una verga, una per ogni capo, secondo le loro case patriarcali: cioè, dodici verghe; e la verga di Aaronne era in mezzo alle loro verghe.

7 a nd Moses placeth the rods before Jehovah, in the tent of the testimony.

Mosè mise quelle verghe davanti al Signore nella tenda della testimonianza.

8 A nd it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that Moses goeth in unto the tent of the testimony, and lo, the rod of Aaron hath flourished for the house of Levi, and is bringing out flourishing, and doth blossom blossoms, and doth produce almonds;

L’indomani, quando Mosè entrò nella tenda della testimonianza, ecco che la verga di Aaronne, per la casa di Levi, era fiorita, aveva prodotto delle gemme, fatto sbocciare dei fiori e maturato delle mandorle.

9 a nd Moses bringeth out all the rods from before Jehovah, unto all the sons of Israel, and they look, and take each his rod.

Allora Mosè tolse tutte le verghe dalla presenza del Signore e le portò a tutti i figli d’Israele; ed essi le videro e presero ciascuno la sua verga.

10 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Put back the rod of Aaron, before the testimony, for a charge, for a sign to the sons of rebellion, and thou dost remove their murmurings from off me, and they do not die;'

Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Riporta la verga di Aaronne davanti alla testimonianza, perché sia conservata come un segno ai ribelli, e tu ponga fine ai loro mormorii contro di me, ed essi non muoiano».

11 a nd Moses doth as Jehovah hath commanded him; so he hath done.

Mosè fece così; fece come il Signore gli aveva comandato.

12 A nd the sons of Israel speak unto Moses, saying, `Lo, we have expired; we have perished; we have all of us perished;

I figli d’Israele dissero a Mosè: «Ecco, periamo! Siamo perduti! Siamo tutti perduti!

13 a ny who is at all drawing near unto the tabernacle of Jehovah dieth; have we not been consumed -- to expire?'

Chiunque si accosta al tabernacolo del Signore muore; dovremo morire tutti quanti?»
