1 A nd the queen of Sheba hath heard of the fame of Solomon, and cometh in to try Solomon with acute sayings, to Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels bearing spices and gold in abundance, and precious stone; and she cometh in unto Solomon, and speaketh with him all that hath been with her heart,

La regina di Seba, udita la fama che circondava Salomone, venne a Gerusalemme per metterlo alla prova con degli enigmi. Essa giunse con un numerosissimo seguito, con cammelli carichi di aromi, d’oro in gran quantità e di pietre preziose. Recatasi da Salomone, gli disse tutto quello che aveva in cuore.

2 a nd Solomon declareth to her all her matters, and there hath not been hid a thing from Solomon that he hath not declared to her.

Salomone rispose a tutte le sue domande, e non ci fu cosa che fosse oscura per il re e che egli non sapesse spiegare.

3 A nd the queen of Sheba seeth the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he hath built,

Quando la regina di Seba ebbe visto la saggezza di Salomone, la reggia da lui costruita,

4 a nd the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the standing of his ministers, and their clothing, and his stewards, and their clothing, an his burnt-offering that he offered up in the house of Jehovah, and there hath not been any more spirit in her.

le vivande della sua mensa, gli alloggi dei suoi servitori, l’ordine di servizio dei suoi ufficiali e le loro divise, i suoi coppieri e le loro vesti, gli olocausti che egli offriva nella casa del Signore, rimase fuori di sé dalla meraviglia.

5 A nd she saith unto the king, `True the word that I heard in my land concerning thy matters and concerning thy wisdom,

E disse al re: «Quanto avevo sentito dire nel mio paese sul tuo conto e sulla tua saggezza era dunque vero.

6 a nd I have given no credence to their words, till that I have come, and mine eyes see, and lo, there hath not been declared to me the half of the abundance of thy wisdom -- thou hast added unto the report that I heard.

Ma io non ci ho creduto finché non sono venuta io stessa e non ho visto con i miei occhi; e ora, ecco, non mi era stata riferita neppure la metà della grandezza della tua saggezza! Tu superi la fama che me n’era giunta!

7 ` O the happiness of thy men, and the happiness of thy servants -- these -- who are standing before thee continually, and hearing thy wisdom.

Beata la tua gente, beati questi tuoi servitori che stanno sempre davanti a te e ascoltano la tua saggezza!

8 L et Jehovah thy God be blessed who hath delighted in thee, to put thee on His throne for king for Jehovah thy God; in the love of thy God to Israel, to establish it to the age, He hath put thee over them for king, to do judgment and righteousness.'

Sia benedetto il Signore, il tuo Dio, il quale ti ha gradito, mettendoti sul suo trono, perché tu regni per il Signore, per il tuo Dio! Dio ti ha stabilito re per esercitare il diritto e la giustizia, perché egli ama Israele e vuole conservarlo per sempre».

9 A nd she giveth to the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and spices in great abundance, and precious stone; and there hath not been any such spice as the queen of Sheba hath given to king Solomon.

Poi donò al re centoventi talenti d’oro, grandissima quantità di aromi e pietre preziose. Non ci furono più tali aromi, come quelli che la regina di Seba diede al re Salomone.

10 A nd also, servants of Huram, and servants of Solomon, who brought in gold from Ophir, have brought in algum-trees and precious stone.

(I servitori di Curam e i servitori di Salomone che portavano oro da Ofir, portavano anche del legno di sandalo e delle pietre preziose;

11 A nd the king maketh the algum-trees staircases for the house of Jehovah, and for the house of the king, and harps and psalteries for singers; and there have been none seen like these before in the land of Judah.

e di questo legno di sandalo il re fece delle scale per la casa del Signore e per il palazzo reale, delle cetre e dei saltèri per i cantori. Del legno come questo non se n’era mai visto prima nel paese di Giuda).

12 A nd king Solomon hath given to the queen of Sheba all her desire that she asked, apart from that which she had brought unto the king, and she turneth and goeth to her land, she and her servants.

Il re Salomone diede alla regina di Seba tutto quello che lei desiderò e chiese, oltre all’equivalente di quello che aveva portato al re. Poi si rimise in cammino e, con i suoi servitori, ritornò al suo paese. Ricchezze di Salomone

13 A nd the weight of the gold that is coming to Solomon in one year is six hundred and sixty and six talents of gold,

Il peso dell’oro che giungeva ogni anno a Salomone era di seicentosessantasei talenti,

14 a part from the tourists, and the merchants, are bringing in; and all the kings of Arabia, and the governors of the land, are bringing in gold and silver to Solomon.

oltre a quello che percepiva dai trafficanti e dai negozianti che gliene portavano, da tutti i re dell’Arabia e dai governatori del paese che portavano a Salomone oro e argento.

15 A nd king Solomon maketh two hundred targets of alloyed gold, six hundred of alloyed gold he causeth to go up on the one target;

Il re Salomone fece fare duecento scudi grandi d’oro battuto, per ognuno dei quali impiegò seicento sicli d’oro battuto,

16 a nd three hundred shields of alloyed gold, three hundred of gold he causeth to go up on the one shield, and the king putteth them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

e trecento altri scudi d’oro battuto, per ognuno dei quali impiegò trecento sicli d’oro; e il re li mise nella «Casa della Foresta del Libano».

17 A nd the king maketh a great throne of ivory, and overlayeth it with pure gold;

Il re fece pure un gran trono d’avorio, che rivestì d’oro puro.

18 a nd six steps to the throne, and a footstool of gold, to the throne they are fastened, and hands on this and on that on the place of the sitting, and two lions are standing near the hands,

Questo trono aveva sei gradini e una pedana d’oro connessi con il trono; c’erano dei bracci da un lato e dall’altro del seggio; due leoni stavano presso i bracci

19 a nd twelve lions are standing there on the six steps on this, and on that: it hath not been made so for any kingdom.

e dodici leoni stavano sui sei gradini, da una parte e dall’altra. Niente di simile era ancora stato fatto in nessun altro regno.

20 A nd all the drinking vessels of king Solomon of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon of refined gold -- silver is not reckoned in the days of Solomon for anything;

Tutte le coppe del re Salomone erano d’oro, e tutto il vasellame della «Casa Foresta del Libano» era d’oro puro; dell’argento non si faceva alcun conto al tempo di Salomone.

21 f or ships of the king are going to Tarshish, with servants of Huram: once in three years come do the ships of Tarshish bearing gold, and silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.

Infatti il re aveva delle navi che andavano a Tarsis con la gente di Curam; e una volta ogni tre anni venivano le navi da Tarsis, portando oro, argento, avorio, scimmie e pavoni.

22 A nd king Solomon becometh greater than any of the kings of the earth for riches and wisdom;

Così il re Salomone fu il più grande di tutti i re della terra per ricchezze e per saggezza.

23 a nd all the kings of the earth are seeking the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom that God hath put in his heart,

E tutti i re della terra cercavano di vedere Salomone per udire la saggezza che Dio gli aveva messa in cuore.

24 a nd they are bringing in each his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, harness, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.

Ognuno di essi gli portava il suo dono: vasi d’argento, vasi d’oro, vesti, armi, aromi, cavalli, muli; e questo avveniva ogni anno.

25 A nd there are to Solomon four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, and he placed them in cities of the chariot, and with the king in Jerusalem.

Salomone aveva delle scuderie per quattromila cavalli, carri e dodicimila cavalieri, che distribuiva nelle città dove teneva i suoi carri e in Gerusalemme presso di sé.

26 A nd he is ruling over all the kings from the River even unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt.

Egli dominava su tutti i re, dal Fiume sino al paese dei Filistei e sino ai confini d’Egitto.

27 A nd the king maketh the silver in Jerusalem as stones, and the cedars he hath made as sycamores, that in the low country, for abundance,

Il re fece in modo che l’argento fosse in Gerusalemme così comune come le pietre, e i cedri tanto abbondanti quanto i sicomori della pianura.

28 a nd they are bringing out horses from Egypt to Solomon, and from all the lands.

E si conducevano a Salomone dei cavalli dall’Egitto e da tutti i paesi. Morte di Salomone

29 A nd the rest of the matters of Solomon, the first and the last, are they not written beside the matters of Nathan the prophet, and beside the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and with the visions of Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam son of Nebat?

Il rimanente delle azioni di Salomone, le prime e le ultime, sono scritte nel libro di Natan, il profeta, nella profezia di Aiia di Silo e nelle visioni di Ieddo, il veggente, relative a Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat.

30 A nd Solomon reigneth in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years,

Salomone regnò a Gerusalemme, su tutto Israele, quarant’anni.

31 a nd Solomon lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the city of David his father, and reign doth Rehoboam his son in his stead.

Poi Salomone si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella città di Davide suo padre; e Roboamo suo figlio regnò al suo posto.
