1 I n the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, hath this word been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

2 ` Thus said Jehovah unto me, Make to thee bands and yokes,

Così mi ha detto il Signore: «Fatti delle catene e dei gioghi e mettiteli sul collo;

3 A nd thou hast put them on thy neck, and hast sent them unto the king of Edom, and unto the king of Moab, and unto the king of the sons of Ammon, and unto the king of Tyre, and unto the king of Zidon, by the hand of messengers who are coming in to Jerusalem, unto Zedekiah king of Judah;

poi mandali al re di Edom, al re di Moab, al re dei figli di Ammon, al re di Tiro e al re di Sidone, mediante gli ambasciatori che sono venuti a Gerusalemme da Sedechia, re di Giuda.

4 A nd thou hast commanded them for their lords, saying, Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel,

Ordina loro che dicano ai loro signori: Così parla il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele: Direte questo ai vostri signori:

5 T hus do ye say unto your lords, I -- I have made the earth with man, and the cattle that on the face of the earth, by My great power, and by My stretched-out arm, and I have given it to whom it hath been right in Mine eyes.

“Io ho fatto la terra, gli uomini e gli animali che sono sulla faccia della terra, con la mia gran potenza e con il mio braccio steso; io do la terra a chi voglio.

6 ` And now, I -- I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and also the beast of the field I have given to him to serve him;

Ora io do tutti questi paesi in mano a Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, mio servitore; gli do pure gli animali della campagna perché gli siano sottomessi.

7 A nd served him have all the nations, and his son, and his son's son, till the coming in of the time of his land, also it; and done service for him have many nations and great kings.

Tutte le nazioni saranno sottomesse a lui, a suo figlio e al figlio di suo figlio, finché giunga il tempo anche per il suo paese; allora molte nazioni e grandi re lo ridurranno in schiavitù.

8 A nd it hath come to pass, the nation and the kingdom that do not serve him -- Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon -- and that which putteth not its neck into the yoke of the king of Babylon, with sword, and with famine, and with pestilence, I lay a charge on that nation -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- till I consume them by his hand.

La nazione o il regno che non vorrà sottomettersi a lui, a Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia, e non vorrà piegare il collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia, quella nazione io la punirò”, dice il Signore, “con la spada, con la fame, con la peste, finché io non l’abbia sterminata per mano di lui.

9 ` And ye, ye do not hearken unto your prophets, and unto your diviners, and unto your dreamers, and unto your observers of clouds, and unto your sorcerers who are speaking unto you, saying, Ye do not serve the king of Babylon, --

Voi dunque non ascoltate i vostri profeti, né i vostri indovini, né i vostri sognatori, né i vostri pronosticatori, né i vostri maghi che vi dicono: ‘Non sarete sottomessi al re di Babilonia!’

10 F or falsehood they are prophesying to you, so as to remove you far from off your ground, and I have driven you out, and ye have perished.

Essi infatti vi profetizzano menzogna, per allontanarvi dal vostro paese, perché io vi cacci e voi periate.

11 A nd the nation that causeth its neck to enter into the yoke of the king of Babylon, and hath served him -- I have left it on its ground -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and it hath tilled it, and dwelt in it.'

Ma la nazione che piegherà il suo collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia e gli sarà sottomessa, io la lascerò stare nel suo paese”, dice il Signore, “ed essa lo coltiverà e vi abiterà”».

12 A nd unto Zedekiah king of Judah I have spoken according to all these words, saying, `Cause your necks to enter into the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.

Io parlai dunque a Sedechia, re di Giuda, secondo tutte queste parole, e dissi: «Piegate il collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia, sottomettetevi a lui e al suo popolo, e vivrete.

13 W hy do ye die, thou and thy people, by sword, by famine, and by pestilence, as Jehovah hath spoken concerning the nation that doth not serve the king of Babylon?

Perché dovreste morire, tu e il tuo popolo, di spada, di fame e di peste, come il Signore ha detto della nazione che non si lascerà sottomettere al re di Babilonia?

14 ` And ye do not hearken unto the words of the prophets who are speaking unto you, saying, Ye do not serve the king of Babylon, -- for falsehood they are prophesying to you.

Non date ascolto alle parole dei profeti che vi dicono: “Non sarete sottomessi al re di Babilonia!”, perché vi profetizzano menzogna.

15 F or I have not sent them -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and they are prophesying in My name falsely, so as to drive you out, and ye have perished, ye, and the prophets who are prophesying to you.'

“Io infatti non li ho mandati”, dice il Signore, “ma profetizzano falsamente nel mio nome perché io vi cacci e voi periate, voi e i profeti che vi profetizzano”».

16 A nd unto the priests, and unto all this people, I have spoken, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, Ye do not hearken unto the words of your prophets, who are prophesying to you, saying, Lo, the vessels of the house of Jehovah are brought back from Babylon now in haste, for falsehood they are prophesying to you.

Parlai pure ai sacerdoti e a tutto questo popolo, e dissi: «Così parla il Signore: “Non date ascolto alle parole dei vostri profeti i quali vi profetizzano, dicendo: ‘Ecco, gli arredi della casa del Signore saranno tra poco riportati da Babilonia’, perché vi profetizzano menzogna.

17 Y e do not hearken unto them, serve the king of Babylon, and live. Why is this city a waste?

Non date loro ascolto; sottomettetevi al re di Babilonia, e vivrete. Perché questa città dovrebbe essere ridotta in desolazione?

18 ` And, if they be prophets, and if a word of Jehovah be with them, let them intercede, I pray you, with Jehovah of Hosts, so that the vessels that are left in the house of Jehovah, and the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem, have not gone into Babylon.

Se sono profeti, e se la parola del Signore è con loro, intercedano ora presso il Signore degli eserciti perché gli arredi rimasti nella casa del Signore, nella casa del re di Giuda e in Gerusalemme, non vadano a Babilonia.

19 F or thus said Jehovah of Hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the rest of the vessels that are left in this city,

Perché così parla il Signore degli eserciti riguardo alle colonne, al Mare, alle basi e al resto degli arredi rimasti in questa città

20 T hat Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon hath not taken, in his removing Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon with all the freemen of Judah and Jerusalem,

e che non furono presi da Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, quando deportò da Gerusalemme a Babilonia Ieconia, figlio di Ioiachim, re di Giuda e tutti i nobili di Giuda, e di Gerusalemme;

21 S urely thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left of the house of Jehovah, and of the house of the king of Judah, and Jerusalem:

così, dico, parla il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele, riguardo agli arredi che rimangono nella casa del Signore, nella casa del re di Giuda e in Gerusalemme:

22 T o Babylon they are brought, and there they are till the day of My inspecting them -- an affirmation of Jehovah; then I have brought them up, and have brought them back unto this place.'

‘Saranno portati a Babilonia, e là rimarranno finché io li cercherò’, dice il Signore, ‘e li farò risalire e ritornare in questo luogo’”».
