1 I n that day lay a charge doth Jehovah, With his sword -- the sharp, and the great, and the strong, On leviathan -- a fleeing serpent, And on leviathan -- a crooked serpent, And He hath slain the dragon that in the sea.

In quel giorno il Signore punirà con la sua spada dura, grande e forte, il leviatano, l’agile serpente, il leviatano, il serpente tortuoso, e ucciderà il mostro che è nel mare! Annuncio della restaurazione d’Israele

2 I n that day, `A desirable vineyard,' respond ye to her,

In quel giorno cantate la vigna dal vino vermiglio!

3 I , Jehovah, am its keeper, every moment I water it, Lest any lay a charge against it, Night and day I keep it!

Io, il Signore, ne sono il guardiano, io la irrigo a ogni istante; la custodisco notte e giorno, affinché nessuno la danneggi.

4 F ury is not in Me; Who giveth Me a brier -- a thorn in battle? I step into it, I burn it at once.

Nessuna ira è in me. Ah! Se dovessi combattere contro rovi e pruni, io andrei contro di loro e li brucerei tutti assieme!

5 O r -- he doth take hold on My strength, He doth make peace with Me, Peace he doth make with Me.

A meno che non mi si prenda per rifugio, che non si faccia la pace con me, che non si faccia la pace con me.

6 T hose coming in He causeth to take root, Jacob doth blossom, and flourished hath Israel, And they have filled the face of the world increase.

In avvenire Giacobbe metterà radice, Israele fiorirà e germoglierà, e copriranno di frutta la faccia del mondo.

7 A s the smiting of his smiter hath He smitten him? As the slaying of his slain doth He slay?

Il Signore ha colpito il suo popolo come ha colpito quelli che colpivano lui? L’ha forse ucciso come ha ucciso quelli che uccidevano lui?

8 I n measure, in sending it forth, thou strivest with it, He hath taken away by His sharp wind, In the day of an east wind,

Tu l’hai punito con misura mandandolo lontano, portandolo via con il tuo soffio impetuoso, in un giorno di vento orientale.

9 T herefore by this is the iniquity of Jacob covered, And this all the fruit -- To take away his sin, in His setting all the stones of an altar, As chalkstones beaten in pieces, They rise not -- shrines and images.

In questo modo è stata espiata l’iniquità di Giacobbe, e questo è il frutto della rimozione del suo peccato: egli ha ridotto tutte le pietre degli altari come pietre di calce frantumate, in modo che gli idoli di Astarte e le colonne solari non risorgeranno più.

10 F or the fenced city alone, A habitation cast out and forsaken as a wilderness, There doth the calf delight, And there it lieth down, And hath consumed its branches.

Infatti la città fortificata è una solitudine, un pascolo abbandonato, abbandonato come il deserto; vi pascoleranno i vitelli, vi si sdraieranno e ne divoreranno gli arbusti.

11 I n the withering of its branch it is broken off, Women are coming in setting it on fire, For it not a people of understanding, Therefore pity it not doth its Maker, And its Former doth not favour it.

Quando i rami saranno secchi, saranno rotti; verranno le donne a bruciarli. Poiché è un popolo senza intelligenza; perciò colui che l’ha fatto non ne avrà compassione, colui che l’ha formato non gli farà grazia.

12 A nd it hath come to pass, in that day, Beat out doth Jehovah from the branch of the river, Unto the stream of Egypt, And ye are gathered one by one, O sons of Israel.

In quel giorno il Signore scrollerà i suoi frutti, dal corso del fiume al torrente d’Egitto; voi sarete raccolti a uno a uno, o figli d’Israele.

13 A nd it hath come to pass, in that day, It is blown with a great trumpet, And come in have those perishing in the land of Asshur, And those cast out in the land of Egypt, And have bowed themselves to Jehovah, In the holy mount -- in Jerusalem!

In quel giorno suonerà una gran tromba; quelli che erano perduti nel paese d’Assiria e quelli che erano dispersi nel paese d’Egitto verranno e si prostreranno davanti al Signore, sul monte santo, a Gerusalemme.
