1 A nd it hath come to pass, In the latter end of the days, The mount of the house of Jehovah Is established above the top of the mounts, And it hath been lifted up above the hills, And flowed unto it have peoples.

Ma negli ultimi tempi il monte della casa del Signore sarà posto in cima ai monti e si eleverà al di sopra delle colline, e i popoli affluiranno ad esso.

2 A nd gone have many nations and said, Come and we go up to the mount of Jehovah, And unto the house of the God of Jacob, And He doth teach us of His ways, And we do walk in His paths, For from Zion doth go forth a law, And a word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.

Verranno molte nazioni e diranno: «Venite, saliamo al monte del Signore, alla casa del Dio di Giacobbe; egli c’insegnerà le sue vie e noi cammineremo nei suoi sentieri!» Poiché da Sion uscirà la legge, da Gerusalemme, la parola del Signore.

3 A nd He hath judged between many peoples, And given a decision to mighty nations afar off, They have beaten their swords to ploughshares, And their spears to pruning-hooks, Nation lifteth not up sword unto nation, Nor do they learn war any more.

Egli sarà giudice fra molti popoli, arbitro fra nazioni potenti e lontane. Dalle loro spade fabbricheranno vòmeri, dalle loro lance, ròncole; una nazione non alzerà più la spada contro l’altra e non impareranno più la guerra.

4 A nd they have sat each under his vine, And under his fig-tree, And there is none troubling, For the mouth of Jehovah of Hosts hath spoken.

Potranno sedersi ciascuno sotto la sua vite e sotto il suo fico, senza che nessuno li spaventi; poiché la bocca del Signore degli eserciti ha parlato.

5 F or all the peoples do walk, Each in the name of its god -- and we, We do walk in the name of Jehovah our God, To the age and for ever.

Mentre tutti i popoli camminano ciascuno nel nome del suo dio, noi cammineremo nel nome del Signore, nostro Dio, per sempre.

6 I n that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah, I do gather the halting one, And the driven away one I bring together, And she whom I have afflicted.

«Quel giorno», dice il Signore, «io raccoglierò le pecore zoppe, radunerò quelle che erano state scacciate e quelle che io avevo trattato duramente.

7 A nd I have set the halting for a remnant, And the far-off for a mighty nation, And reigned hath Jehovah over them in mount Zion, From henceforth, and unto the age.

Di quelle zoppe io farò un resto che sussisterà; di quelle scacciate lontano, una nazione potente. Il Signore regnerà su di loro, sul monte Sion, da allora e per sempre.

8 A nd thou, O tower of Eder, Fort of the daughter of Zion, unto thee it cometh, Yea, come in hath the former rule, The kingdom to the daughter of Jerusalem.

A te, torre del gregge, colle della figlia di Sion, a te verrà, a te verrà l’antico dominio, il regno che spetta alla figlia di Gerusalemme». Schiavitù e liberazione d’Israele

9 N ow, why dost thou shout aloud? A king -- is there none in thee? Hath thy counsellor perished, That taken hold of thee hath pain as a travailing woman?

Ora, perché gridi così forte? Non c’è più nessun re dentro di te? Il tuo consigliere è forse perito, al punto che l’angoscia ti colga come una donna che partorisce?

10 B e pained, and bring forth, O daughter of Zion, As a travailing woman, For now, thou goest forth from the city, And thou hast dwelt in the field, And thou hast gone unto Babylon, There thou art delivered, There redeem thee doth Jehovah from the hand of thine enemies.

Soffri e gemi, figlia di Sion, come donna che partorisce, perché ora uscirai dalla città, abiterai per i campi e andrai fino a Babilonia. Là tu sarai liberata, là il Signore ti riscatterà dalla mano dei tuoi nemici.

11 A nd now, gathered against thee have been many nations, who are saying: `Let her be defiled, and our eyes look on Zion.'

Ora molte nazioni si sono adunate contro di te e dicono: «Sia profanata, e i nostri occhi godano alla vista di Sion!»

12 T hey have not known the thoughts of Jehovah, Nor have they understood His counsel, For He hath gathered them as a sheaf a threshing-floor.

Ma esse non conoscono i pensieri del Signore, non comprendono i suoi disegni, poiché egli le raduna come covoni sull’aia.

13 A rise, and thresh, O daughter of Zion, For thy horn I make iron, And thy hoofs I make brass, And thou hast beaten small many peoples, And I have devoted to Jehovah their gain, And their wealth to the Lord of the whole earth!

«Figlia di Sion, àlzati, trebbia! perché io farò in modo che il tuo corno sia di ferro e le tue unghie siano di bronzo; tu triterai molti popoli, consacrerai i loro guadagni al Signore e le loro ricchezze al Signore di tutta la terra».
