1 T hen said Solomon, `Jehovah said -- to dwell in thick darkness,

Allora Salomone disse: «Il Signore ha dichiarato che avrebbe abitato nell’oscurità!

2 a nd I -- I have built a house of habitation for Thee, and a fixed place for Thy dwelling to the ages.'

E io ti ho costruito una casa come tua dimora, un luogo dove tu abiterai per sempre!»

3 A nd the king turneth round his face, and blesseth the whole assembly of Israel, and the whole assembly of Israel is standing,

Poi il re voltò la faccia e benedisse tutta l’assemblea d’Israele; e tutta l’assemblea d’Israele stava in piedi.

4 a nd he saith, `Blessed Jehovah, God of Israel, who hath spoken with His mouth with David my father, and with His hands hath fulfilled, saying:

E disse: «Benedetto sia il Signore, Dio d’Israele, il quale, di sua propria bocca, parlò a Davide mio padre, e con la sua potenza ha adempiuto quanto aveva dichiarato dicendo:

5 ` From the day that I brought out My people from the land of Egypt, I have not fixed on a city out of any of the tribes of Israel to build a house for my name being there, and I have not fixed on a man to be leader over My people Israel;

“Dal giorno che feci uscire il mio popolo Israele dal paese d’Egitto, io non scelsi alcuna città, fra tutte le tribù d’Israele, per costruire là una casa dove il mio nome dimorasse; e non scelsi alcun uomo perché fosse principe del mio popolo Israele;

6 a nd I fix on Jerusalem for My name being there, and I fix on David to be over My people Israel.

ma ho scelto Gerusalemme perché il mio nome vi dimori e ho scelto Davide per regnare sul mio popolo Israele”.

7 ` And it is with the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Jehovah God of Israel,

Davide, mio padre, ebbe in cuore di costruire una casa al nome del Signore, Dio d’Israele;

8 a nd Jehovah saith unto David my father, Because that it hath been with thy heart to build a house for My name, thou hast done well that it hath been with thy heart,

ma il Signore disse a Davide mio padre: “Quanto all’aver tu avuto in cuore di costruire una casa al mio nome, hai fatto bene ad avere questo in cuore;

9 b ut thou dost not build the house, for thy son who cometh forth out from thy loins, he doth build the house for My name.

però non sarai tu che costruirai la casa, ma il figlio che uscirà dai tuoi lombi: sarà lui a costruire la casa al mio nome”.

10 ` And Jehovah doth establish His word that He spake, and I rise up in the stead of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah spake, and I build the house for the name of Jehovah, God of Israel,

E il Signore ha adempiuto la parola che aveva pronunciata; e io sono subentrato al posto di Davide mio padre e mi sono seduto sul trono d’Israele, come il Signore aveva annunciato, e ho costruito la casa al nome del Signore, Dio d’Israele.

11 a nd I place there the ark, where the covenant of Jehovah that He made with the sons of Israel.'

Là ho deposto l’arca, nella quale è il patto del Signore: il patto che egli stabilì con i figli d’Israele».

12 A nd he standeth before the altar of Jehovah, over-against all the assembly of Israel, and spreadeth out his hand, --

Poi Salomone si mise davanti all’altare del Signore, in presenza di tutta l’assemblea d’Israele, e stese le sue mani.

13 f or Solomon hath made a scaffold of brass, and putteth it in the midst of the court, five cubits its length, and five cubits its breadth, and three cubits its height, and he standeth upon it, and kneeleth on his knees over-against all the assembly of Israel, and spreadeth forth his hands towards the heavens --

Egli, infatti, aveva fatto costruire una tribuna di bronzo, lunga cinque cubiti, larga cinque cubiti e alta tre cubiti, e l’aveva posta in mezzo al cortile; egli vi salì, si mise in ginocchio in presenza di tutta l’assemblea d’Israele, stese le mani verso il cielo e disse:

14 a nd saith, `O Jehovah God of Israel, there is not like Thee a god in the heavens and in the earth, keeping the covenant and the kindness for Thy servants who are walking before Thee with all their heart;

«O Signore, Dio d’Israele, non c’è Dio simile a te, né in cielo né in terra! Tu mantieni il patto e la misericordia verso i tuoi servi che camminano in tua presenza con tutto il loro cuore.

15 w ho hast kept for Thy servant David my father that which Thou didst speak to him; yea, Thou dost speak with Thy mouth, and with Thy hand hast fulfilled, as at this day.

Tu hai mantenuto la promessa da te fatta al tuo servo Davide, mio padre; e ciò che dichiarasti con la tua propria bocca, la tua mano oggi l’adempie.

16 ` And now, O Jehovah, God of Israel, keep for Thy servant David my father that which Thou didst speak to him, saying, There is not cut off to thee a man from before Me, sitting on the throne of Israel, only, if thy sons watch their way to walk in My law, as thou hast walked before Me.

Ora dunque, Signore, Dio d’Israele, mantieni al tuo servo Davide, mio padre, la promessa che gli facesti dicendo: “Non ti mancherà mai qualcuno che sieda davanti a me sul trono d’Israele, purché i tuoi figli veglino sul loro comportamento e camminino secondo la mia legge, come tu hai camminato in mia presenza”.

17 ` And now, O Jehovah, God of Israel, is Thy word stedfast that Thou hast spoken to Thy servant, to David,

Ora, Signore, Dio d’Israele, si avveri la parola che dicesti al tuo servo Davide!

18 ( for is it true? -- God dwelleth with man on the earth! Lo, the heavens, and the heavens of the heavens, do not contain Thee, how much less this house that I have built?)

Ma è proprio vero che Dio abita con gli uomini sulla terra? Ecco, i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non possono contenerti; quanto meno questa casa che io ho costruita!

19 ` And Thou hast turned unto the prayer of Thy servant, and unto his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to hearken unto the cry and unto the prayer that Thy servant is praying before Thee,

Tuttavia, Signore, Dio mio, abbi riguardo alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla sua supplica, ascoltando il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servo ti rivolge.

20 f or Thine eyes being open towards this house by day and by night, towards the place that Thou hast said to put Thy name there, to hearken unto the prayer that Thy servant prayeth towards this place.

Siano i tuoi occhi giorno e notte aperti su questa casa, sul luogo nel quale dicesti di voler mettere il tuo nome! Ascolta la preghiera che il tuo servo farà, rivolto a questo luogo!

21 ` And Thou hast hearkened unto the supplications of Thy servant, and of Thy people Israel, that they pray towards this place, and Thou dost hear from the place of Thy dwelling, from the heavens, and hast hearkened, and forgiven.

Ascolta le suppliche del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele quando pregheranno, rivolti a questo luogo; ascoltali dal luogo della tua dimora, dai cieli; ascolta e perdona!

22 ` If a man doth sin against his neighbour, and he hath lifted up on him an oath to cause him to swear, and the oath hath come in before Thine altar in this house --

Se uno avrà peccato contro il suo prossimo e si esigerà da lui il giuramento, obbligandolo a farlo con imprecazione contro se stesso, ed egli viene a giurare davanti al tuo altare in questa casa,

23 t hen Thou dost hear from the heavens, and hast done, and hast judged Thy servants, to give back to the wicked, to put his way on his head, and to declare righteous the righteous, to give to him according to his righteousness.

tu ascoltalo dal cielo, agisci e giudica i tuoi servi; condanna il colpevole, facendo ricadere sul suo capo i suoi atti, e dichiara giusto l’innocente, trattandolo secondo la sua giustizia.

24 ` And if Thy people Israel is smitten before an enemy, because they sin against Thee, and they have turned back and confessed Thy name, and prayed and made supplication before Thee in this house --

Quando il tuo popolo Israele sarà sconfitto dal nemico per aver peccato contro di te, se torna a te, se dà gloria al tuo nome e ti rivolge preghiere e suppliche in questa casa,

25 t hen Thou dost hear from the heavens, and hast forgiven the sin of Thy people Israel, and caused them to turn back unto the ground that Thou hast given to them, and to their fathers.

tu esaudiscilo dal cielo, perdona al tuo popolo Israele il suo peccato e riconducilo nel paese che dèsti a lui e ai suoi padri.

26 ` In the heavens being restrained, and there is no rain, because they sin against Thee, and they have prayed towards this place, and confessed Thy name -- from their sin they turn back because Thou dost afflict them --

Quando il cielo sarà chiuso e non vi sarà più pioggia a causa dei loro peccati contro di te, se essi pregano rivolti a questo luogo, se danno gloria al tuo nome e si convertono dai loro peccati perché li avrai afflitti,

27 t hen Thou dost hear in the heavens, and hast forgiven the sin of Thy servants, and of Thy people Israel, because Thou directest them unto the good way in which they walk, and hast given rain on Thy land that Thou hast given to Thy people for an inheritance.

tu esaudiscili dal cielo, perdona il peccato ai tuoi servi e al tuo popolo Israele, ai quali avrai mostrato la buona strada per cui debbono camminare; e manda la pioggia sulla tua terra che hai data come eredità al tuo popolo.

28 ` Famine, when it is in the land, pestilence, when it is, blasting, and mildew, locust, and caterpillar, when they are, when its enemies have distressed it in the land -- its gates, any plague and any sickness;

Quando il paese sarà invaso dalla carestia o dalla peste, dalla ruggine o dal carbone, dalle locuste o dai bruchi; quando il nemico assedierà il tuo popolo nel suo paese, nelle sue città, quando scoppierà qualsiasi flagello o epidemia, ogni preghiera,

29 a ny prayer, any supplication that is for any man, and for all Thy people Israel, when they know each his own plague, and his own pain, and he hath spread out his hands towards this house:

ogni supplica che ti sarà rivolta da un individuo o dall’intero tuo popolo Israele; quando ciascuno avrà riconosciuto la sua piaga e il suo dolore e stenderà le sue mani verso questa casa,

30 t hen Thou dost hear from the heavens, the settled place of Thy dwelling, and hast forgiven, and hast given to each according to all his ways (because Thou knowest his heart, for Thou -- Thou only -- hast known the heart of the sons of men),

tu esaudiscila dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora, e perdona; rendi a ciascuno secondo le sue vie, tu che conosci il cuore di ognuno; tu solo infatti conosci il cuore dei figli degli uomini;

31 s o that they fear Thee, to walk in Thy ways, all the days that they are living on the face of the ground that Thou hast given to our fathers.

affinché essi ti temano e camminino nelle tue vie tutto il tempo che vivranno nel paese che tu dèsti ai nostri padri!

32 ` And also, unto the stranger who is not of Thy people Israel, and he hath come from a land afar off for the sake of Thy great name, and Thy strong hand, and Thy stretched-out arm, and they have come in and prayed towards this house:

Anche lo straniero, che non è del tuo popolo Israele, quando verrà da un paese lontano a causa del tuo grande nome, della tua mano potente e del tuo braccio disteso; quando verrà a pregarti in questa casa,

33 t hen Thou dost hear from the heavens, from the settled place of Thy dwelling, and hast done according to all that the stranger calleth unto Thee for: so that all the peoples of the earth do know Thy name, so as to fear Thee, as Thy people Israel, and to know that Thy name is called on this house that I have built.

tu esaudiscilo dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora, e concedi a questo straniero tutto quello che ti domanderà, affinché tutti i popoli della terra conoscano il tuo nome per temerti, come fa il tuo popolo Israele, e sappiano che il tuo nome è invocato su questa casa che io ho costruita.

34 ` When Thy people doth go out to battle against its enemies in the way that Thou dost send them, and they have prayed unto Thee the way of this city that Thou hast fixed on, and the house that I have built for Thy name:

Quando il tuo popolo partirà per far guerra al suo nemico, seguendo la via per la quale tu l’avrai mandato, se t’innalza preghiere rivolto a questa città, che tu hai scelta, e alla casa che io ho costruita al tuo nome,

35 t hen Thou hast heard from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and hast maintained their cause.

esaudisci dal cielo le sue preghiere e le sue suppliche e fagli ottenere giustizia.

36 ` When they sin against Thee -- for there is not a man who sinneth not -- and Thou hast been angry with them, and hast given them before an enemy, and taken them captive have their captors, unto a land far off or near;

Quando peccheranno contro di te, infatti non c’è uomo che non pecchi, e tu, sdegnato contro di loro, li avrai abbandonati in balìa del nemico che li deporterà in un paese lontano o vicino,

37 a nd they have turned back unto their heart in the land whither they have been taken captive, and have turned back, and made supplication unto Thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done perversely, and have done wickedly;

se, nel paese dove saranno schiavi, rientrano in se stessi, se tornano a te e rivolgono suppliche nel paese della loro schiavitù, e dicono: “Abbiamo peccato, abbiamo agito empiamente, siamo stati malvagi”,

38 y ea, they have turned back unto Thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their captivity, whither they have taken them captive, and they have prayed the way of their land that Thou hast given to their fathers, and of the city that Thou hast chosen, and of the house that I have built for Thy name:

se tornano a te con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima nel paese della loro prigionia dove sono stati condotti schiavi, e ti pregano, rivolti al loro paese, il paese che tu dèsti ai loro padri, alla città che tu hai scelta e alla casa che ho costruita al tuo nome,

39 t hen Thou hast heard from the heavens, from the settled place of Thy dwelling, their prayer and their supplications, and hast maintained their cause, and forgiven Thy people who have sinned against Thee.

esaudisci dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora, la loro preghiera e le loro suppliche, e fa’ ottenere loro giustizia; perdona il tuo popolo che ha peccato contro di te.

40 ` Now, my God, let, I beseech Thee, Thine eyes be open, and Thine ears attentive, to the prayer of this place:

Ora, Dio mio, siano aperti i tuoi occhi e siano attente le tue orecchie alla preghiera fatta in questo luogo.

41 a nd now, rise, O Jehovah God, to Thy rest, Thou, and the ark of Thy strength; Thy priests, O Jehovah God, are clothed with salvation, and Thy saints rejoice in the goodness,

E ora àlzati, o Signore, o Dio, vieni al luogo del tuo riposo, tu e l’arca della tua forza. I tuoi sacerdoti, o Signore, o Dio, siano rivestiti di salvezza, ed esultino nel bene i tuoi fedeli!

42 O Jehovah God, turn not back the face of Thine anointed, be mindful of the kind acts of David Thy servant.'

O Signore, o Dio, non respingere la faccia del tuo unto; ricòrdati delle grazie concesse a Davide, tuo servo».
