1 T he word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah -- it the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar,

2 A nd then the forces of the king of Babylon are laying siege against Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet hath been shut up in the court of the prison that in the house of the king of Judah,

L’esercito del re di Babilonia assediava allora Gerusalemme, e il profeta Geremia era rinchiuso nel cortile della prigione che era nella casa del re di Giuda.

3 W here Zedekiah king of Judah hath shut him up, saying, `Wherefore art thou prophesying, saying, Thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he hath captured it;

L’aveva fatto rinchiudere Sedechia, re di Giuda, dicendo: «Tu, infatti, profetizzi e dici: “Così parla il Signore: ‘Ecco, io do questa città in mano al re di Babilonia, ed egli la prenderà;

4 A nd Zedekiah king of Judah doth not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but is certainly given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and his mouth hath spoken with his mouth, and his eyes see his eyes,

Sedechia, re di Giuda, non scamperà dalle mani dei Caldei, ma sarà per certo dato in mano al re di Babilonia, e parlerà con lui bocca a bocca e i suoi occhi vedranno gli occhi suoi;

5 A nd Babylon he leadeth Zedekiah, and there he is till My inspecting him, -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- because ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye do not prosper.'

Nabucodonosor deporterà Sedechia a Babilonia, ed egli resterà là finché io lo visiti’, dice il Signore; ‘se combattete contro i Caldei, voi non avrete esito favorevole’”».

6 A nd Jeremiah saith, `A word of Jehovah hath been unto me saying,

Geremia disse: «La parola del Signore mi è stata rivolta in questi termini:

7 L o, Hanameel son of Shallum, thine uncle, is coming unto thee, saying, Buy for thee my field that in Anathoth, for thine the right of redemption -- to buy.

“Ecco, Canameel, figlio di Sallum, tuo zio, viene da te per dirti: ‘Còmprati il mio campo che è ad Anatot, poiché tu hai il diritto di riscatto per comprarlo’”».

8 A nd Hanameel, my uncle's son, cometh in unto me, according to the word of Jehovah, unto the court of the prison, and saith unto me, `Buy, I pray thee, my field that in Anathoth, that in the land of Benjamin, for thine the right of possession, and thine of redemption -- buy for thee.' And I know that it the word of Jehovah,

E Canameel, figlio di mio zio, venne da me, secondo la parola del Signore, nel cortile della prigione, e mi disse: «Ti prego, compra il mio campo che è ad Anatot, nel territorio di Beniamino; poiché tu hai il diritto di successione e il diritto di riscatto, còmpratelo!» Allora riconobbi che questa era parola del Signore.

9 A nd I buy the field, that in Anathoth, from Hanameel, my uncle's son, and I weigh to him the money -- seventeen shekels of silver.

Io comprai da Canameel, figlio di mio zio, il campo che era ad Anatot, e gli pesai il denaro: diciassette sicli d’argento.

10 A nd I write in a book, and seal, and cause witnesses to testify, and weigh the silver in balances;

Scrissi tutto questo in un documento, lo sigillai, chiamai i testimoni e pesai il denaro nella bilancia.

11 A nd I take the purchase-book, the sealed one, according to law and custom, and the open one.

Poi presi l’atto d’acquisto, quello sigillato, contenente i termini e le condizioni, e quello aperto,

12 A nd I give the purchase-book unto Baruch son of Neriah, son of Maaseiah, before the eyes of Hanameel, my uncle's son, and before the eyes of the witnesses, those writing in the purchase-book, before the eyes of all the Jews who are sitting in the court of the prison.

e consegnai l’atto di acquisto a Baruc, figlio di Neria, figlio di Maseia, in presenza di Canameel mio cugino, in presenza dei testimoni che avevano sottoscritto l’atto d’acquisto e in presenza di tutti i Giudei che sedevano nel cortile della prigione.

13 A nd I charge Baruch before their eyes, saying,

Poi, davanti a loro, diedi quest’ordine a Baruc:

14 ` Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Take these books, this purchase-book, both the sealed one and the open one, and thou hast put them in an earthen vessel, that they may remain many days;

«Così parla il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele: “Prendi questi atti, l’atto d’acquisto, sia quello sigillato sia quello aperto, e mettili in un vaso di terra, perché si conservino a lungo”.

15 F or thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Again are houses and fields and vineyards bought in this land.'

Infatti così parla il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele: “Si compreranno ancora case, campi e vigne in questo paese”». Conferma della restaurazione d’Israele

16 A nd I pray unto Jehovah -- after my giving the purchase-book unto Baruch son of Neriah -- saying,

Dopo che io ebbi consegnato l’atto d’acquisto a Baruc, figlio di Neria, pregai il Signore, dicendo:

17 ` Ah, Lord Jehovah, lo, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy great power, and by Thy stretched-out arm; there is nothing too wonderful for Thee:

«Ah, Signore, Dio! Ecco, tu hai fatto il cielo e la terra con la tua gran potenza e con il tuo braccio steso; non c’è nulla di troppo difficile per te.

18 D oing kindness to thousands, and recompensing iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their sons after them; God, the great, the mighty, Jehovah of Hosts His name,

Tu usi benevolenza verso mille generazioni e dai la retribuzione per l’iniquità dei padri ai figli, dopo di loro; tu sei Dio grande, potente, il cui nome è: Signore degli eserciti.

19 G reat in counsel, and mighty in act, in that Thine eyes are open on all the ways of the sons of Adam, to give to each according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

Tu sei grande in pensieri e potente in opere; hai gli occhi aperti su tutte le vie dei figli degli uomini, per rendere a ciascuno secondo le sue opere e secondo il frutto delle sue azioni.

20 I n that thou hast done signs and wonders in the land of Egypt unto this day, and in Israel, and among men, and Thou dost make for Thee a name as this day.

Tu hai fatto nel paese d’Egitto, in Israele e fra gli altri uomini, fino a questo giorno, miracoli e prodigi, ti sei acquistato un nome quale esso è oggi.

21 ` And Thou bringest forth Thy people Israel from the land of Egypt, with signs and with wonders, and by a strong hand, and by a stretched-out arm, and by great fear,

Tu conducesti il tuo popolo fuori dal paese d’Egitto con miracoli e prodigi, con mano potente e braccio steso, con gran terrore;

22 A nd thou givest to them this land that thou didst swear to their fathers to give to them, a land flowing with milk and honey,

dèsti loro questo paese che avevi giurato ai loro padri di dar loro: un paese dove scorrono latte e miele.

23 A nd they come in, and possess it, and they have not hearkened to Thy voice, and in Thy law have not walked, all that which Thou didst lay a charge on them to do they have not done, and Thou dost proclaim them all this evil.

Essi vi entrarono e ne presero possesso, ma non hanno ubbidito alla tua voce e non hanno camminato secondo la tua legge; tutto quello che avevi loro comandato di fare essi non l’hanno fatto, perciò tu hai riversato su di essi tutti questi mali.

24 ` Lo, the mounts -- they have come in to the city to capture it, and the city hath been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it, because of the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence; and that which Thou hast spoken hath come to pass, and lo, Thou art seeing;

Ecco, le opere d’assedio giungono fino alla città per prenderla; la città, vinta dalla spada, dalla fame e dalla peste, è data in mano ai Caldei che combattono contro di lei. Quello che tu hai detto è avvenuto, ed ecco, tu lo vedi.

25 Y et Thou hast said unto me, O Lord Jehovah, Buy for thee the field with money, and cause witnesses to testify -- and the city hath been given into the hand of the Chaldeans!'

Eppure, Signore, Dio, tu mi hai detto: “Còmprati con denaro il campo e chiama dei testimoni”, ma la città è data in mano ai Caldei».

26 A nd the word of Jehovah is unto Jeremiah, saying:

Allora la parola del Signore fu rivolta a Geremia in questi termini:

27 ` Lo, I Jehovah, God of all flesh: For Me is anything too wonderful?

«Ecco, io sono il Signore, Dio di ogni carne; c’è forse qualcosa di troppo difficile per me?»

28 ` Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he hath captured it;

Perciò così parla il Signore: «Ecco, io do questa città in mano ai Caldei, in mano a Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, il quale la conquisterà;

29 A nd come in have the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city, and they have set this city on fire, and have burned it, and the houses on whose roofs they made perfume to Baal, and poured out libations to other gods, so as to provoke Me to anger.

e i Caldei che combattono contro questa città vi entreranno, vi appiccheranno il fuoco e incendieranno le case sui cui tetti hanno offerto profumi a Baal e fatto libazioni ad altri dèi, per provocare la mia ira.

30 F or the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been only doing evil in Mine eyes, from their youth; for the sons of Israel are only provoking Me with the work of their hands -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

Poiché i figli d’Israele e i figli di Giuda hanno fatto, sin dalla loro adolescenza, ciò che è male ai miei occhi; poiché i figli d’Israele non hanno fatto che provocare la mia ira con l’opera delle loro mani», dice il Signore.

31 ` For a cause of Mine anger, and a cause of My fury, hath this city been to Me, even from the day that they built it, and unto this day -- to turn it aside from before My face,

«Infatti questa città, dal giorno che fu costruita sino a oggi, è stata una continua provocazione alla mia ira e al mio furore, al punto che la voglio togliere via dalla mia presenza,

32 B ecause of all the evil of the sons of Israel, and of the sons of Judah that they have done, so as to provoke Me -- they, their kings, their heads, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

a causa di tutto il male che i figli d’Israele e i figli di Giuda hanno fatto per provocare la mia ira: essi, i loro re, i loro prìncipi, i loro sacerdoti, i loro profeti, gli uomini di Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme.

33 A nd they turn unto Me the neck, and not the face, and teaching them, rising early and teaching, and they are not hearkening to accept instruction.

Mi hanno voltato non la faccia, ma le spalle; sebbene io li abbia istruiti continuamente fin dalla mattina, essi non hanno dato ascolto per ricevere la correzione.

34 ` And they set their abominations in the house over which My name is called, so as to defile it;

Ma hanno messo le loro abominazioni nella casa sulla quale è invocato il mio nome, per profanarla.

35 A nd they build the high places of Baal, that in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come up on my heart to do this abomination, so as to cause Judah to sin.

Hanno costruito gli alti luoghi di Baal, che sono nella valle dei figli di Innom, per far passare per il fuoco i loro figli e le loro figlie offrendoli a Moloc, cosa che io non avevo comandata loro, e non mi era venuto in mente che si dovesse commettere una tale abominazione, facendo peccare Giuda.

36 ` And now, therefore, thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, concerning this city, of which ye are saying, It hath been given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, and by famine, and by pestilence,

«Ma ora, in seguito a tutto questo, così parla il Signore, Dio d’Israele, riguardo a questa città, della quale voi dite: “Essa è data in mano del re di Babilonia, per la spada, per la fame e per la peste”:

37 L o, I am gathering them out of all the lands whither I have driven them in Mine anger, and in My fury, and in great wrath, and I have brought them back unto this place, and have caused them to dwell confidently;

“Ecco, li raccoglierò da tutti i paesi dove li ho cacciati nella mia ira, nel mio furore, nella mia grande indignazione; li farò tornare in questo luogo e ve li farò abitare al sicuro.

38 a nd they have been to Me for a people, and I am to them for God;

Essi saranno mio popolo e io sarò loro Dio;

39 a nd I have given to them one heart, and one way, to fear Me all the days, for good to them, and to their sons after them:

darò loro uno stesso cuore, una stessa via, perché mi temano per sempre, per il loro bene e per quello dei loro figli dopo di loro.

40 a nd I have made for them a covenant age-during, in that I turn not back from after them for My doing them good, and My fear I put in their heart, so as not to turn aside from me;

Farò con loro un patto eterno, che non mi allontanerò più da loro per cessare di far loro del bene; metterò il mio timore nel loro cuore perché non si allontanino da me.

41 a nd I have rejoiced over them to do them good, and have planted them in this land in truth, with all my heart, and with all My soul.

Metterò la mia gioia nel far loro del bene e li pianterò in questo paese con fedeltà, con tutto il mio cuore, con tutta l’anima mia”.

42 ` For thus said Jehovah: As I brought in unto this people all this great evil, so I am bringing in on them all the good that I am speaking concerning them;

Poiché così parla il Signore: “Come ho fatto venire su questo popolo un gran male, così farò venire su di lui tutto il bene che gli prometto.

43 a nd bought hath been the field in this land of which ye are saying, A desolation it, without man and beast, it hath been given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

Si compreranno dei campi in questo paese del quale voi dite: ‘È desolato, non c’è più né uomo né bestia; è dato in mano ai Caldei’.

44 F ields with money they buy, so as to write in a book, and to seal, and to cause witnesses to testify, in the land of Benjamin, and in suburbs of Jerusalem, and in cities of Judah, and in cities of the hill-country, and in cities of the low country, and in cities of the south, for I turn back their captivity -- an affirmation of Jehovah.'

Si compreranno dei campi con denaro, se ne scriveranno gli atti, si sigilleranno, si chiameranno testimoni, nel paese di Beniamino e nei luoghi circostanti a Gerusalemme, nelle città di Giuda, nelle città della regione montuosa, nelle città della pianura, nelle città della regione meridionale; poiché io farò tornare quelli che sono deportati”, dice il Signore ».
