1 I n the third month of the going out of the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, in this day they have come into the wilderness of Sinai,

Nel primo giorno del terzo mese, da quando furono usciti dal paese d’Egitto, i figli d’Israele giunsero al deserto del Sinai.

2 a nd they journey from Rephidim, and enter the wilderness of Sinai, and encamp in the wilderness; and Israel encampeth there before the mount.

Partiti da Refidim, giunsero al deserto del Sinai e si accamparono nel deserto; qui Israele si accampò di fronte al monte.

3 A nd Moses hath gone up unto God, and Jehovah calleth unto him out of the mount, saying, `Thus dost thou say to the house of Jacob, and declare to the sons of Israel,

Mosè salì verso Dio e il Signore lo chiamò dal monte dicendo: «Parla così alla casa di Giacobbe e annuncia questo ai figli d’Israele:

4 Y e -- ye have seen that which I have done to the Egyptians, and I bear you on eagles' wings, and bring you in unto Myself.

“Voi avete visto quello che ho fatto agli Egiziani e come vi ho portato sopra ali d’aquila e vi ho condotti a me.

5 ` And now, if ye really hearken to My voice, then ye have kept My covenant, and been to Me a peculiar treasure more than all the peoples, for all the earth Mine;

Dunque, se ubbidite davvero alla mia voce e osservate il mio patto, sarete fra tutti i popoli il mio tesoro particolare; poiché tutta la terra è mia;

6 a nd ye -- ye are to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation: these the words which thou dost speak unto the sons of Israel.'

e mi sarete un regno di sacerdoti, una nazione santa ”. Queste sono le parole che dirai ai figli d’Israele».

7 A nd Moses cometh, and calleth for the elders of the people, and setteth before them all these words which Jehovah hath commanded him;

Allora Mosè venne, chiamò gli anziani del popolo ed espose loro tutte queste parole che il Signore gli aveva ordinato di dire.

8 a nd all the people answer together and say, `All that Jehovah hath spoken we do;' and Moses returneth the words of the people unto Jehovah.

Tutto il popolo rispose concordemente e disse: «Noi faremo tutto quello che il Signore ha detto». E Mosè riferì al Signore le parole del popolo.

9 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Lo, I am coming unto thee in the thickness of the cloud, so that the people hear in My speaking with thee, and also believe in thee to the age;' and Moses declareth the words of the people unto Jehovah.

Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Ecco, io verrò a te in una fitta nuvola, affinché il popolo oda quando io parlerò con te, e ti presti fede per sempre». E Mosè riferì al Signore le parole del popolo.

10 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Go unto the people; and thou hast sanctified them to-day and to-morrow, and they have washed their garments,

Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: «Va’ dal popolo, santificalo oggi e domani; fa’ che si lavi le vesti.

11 a nd have been prepared for the third day; for on the third day doth Jehovah come down before the eyes of all the people, on mount Sinai.

Siano pronti per il terzo giorno; perché il terzo giorno il Signore scenderà in presenza di tutto il popolo sul monte Sinai.

12 ` And thou hast made a border the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, going up into the mount, or coming against its extremity; whoever is coming against the mount is certainly put to death;

Tu fisserai tutto intorno dei limiti al popolo, e dirai: “Guardatevi dal salire sul monte o dal toccarne i fianchi. Chiunque toccherà il monte sarà messo a morte.

13 a hand cometh not against him, for he is certainly stoned or shot through, whether beast or man it liveth not; in the drawing out of the jubilee cornet they go up into the mount.'

Nessuna mano dovrà toccare il colpevole: questo sarà lapidato o trafitto con frecce; animale o uomo che sia, non dovrà vivere! ” Quando il corno suonerà a distesa, allora essi potranno salire sul monte».

14 A nd Moses cometh down from the mount unto the people, and sanctifieth the people, and they wash their garments;

E Mosè scese dal monte verso il popolo; santificò il popolo, e quelli si lavarono le vesti.

15 a nd he saith unto the people, `Be ye prepared for the third day, come not nigh unto a woman.'

Mosè disse al popolo: «Siate pronti fra tre giorni; non avvicinatevi a donna».

16 A nd it cometh to pass, on the third day, while it is morning, that there are voices, and lightnings, and a heavy cloud, on the mount, and the sound of a trumpet very strong; and all the people who in the camp do tremble.

Il terzo giorno, come fu mattino, ci furono tuoni, lampi, una fitta nuvola sul monte e si udì un fortissimo suono di tromba. Tutto il popolo che era nell’accampamento tremò.

17 A nd Moses bringeth out the people to meet God from the camp, and they station themselves at the lower part of the mount,

Mosè fece uscire il popolo dall’accampamento per condurlo a incontrare Dio; e si fermarono ai piedi del monte.

18 a nd mount Sinai wholly a smoke from the presence of Jehovah, who hath come down on it in fire, and its smoke goeth up as smoke of the furnace, and the whole mount trembleth exceedingly;

Il monte Sinai era tutto fumante, perché il Signore vi era disceso in mezzo al fuoco; il fumo saliva come il fumo di una fornace, e tutto il monte tremava forte.

19 a nd the sound of the trumpet is going on, and very strong; Moses speaketh, and God doth answer him with a voice.

Il suono della tromba si faceva sempre più forte; Mosè parlava e Dio gli rispondeva con una voce.

20 A nd Jehovah cometh down on mount Sinai, unto the top of the mount, and Jehovah calleth for Moses unto the top of the mount, and Moses goeth up.

Il Signore dunque scese sul monte Sinai, in vetta al monte; e il Signore chiamò Mosè sulla vetta del monte, e Mosè vi salì.

21 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Go down, protest to the people, lest they break through unto Jehovah to see, and many of them have fallen;

Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Scendi, avverti solennemente il popolo di non fare irruzione verso il Signore per guardare, altrimenti molti di loro periranno.

22 a nd also the priests who are coming nigh unto Jehovah do sanctify themselves, lest Jehovah break forth on them.'

Anche i sacerdoti che si avvicinano al Signore, si santifichino, affinché il Signore non si avventi contro di loro».

23 A nd Moses saith unto Jehovah, `The people unable to come up unto mount Sinai, for Thou -- Thou hast protested to us, saying, Make a border the mount, then thou hast sanctified it.'

Mosè disse al Signore: «Il popolo non può salire sul monte Sinai, poiché tu ce lo hai vietato dicendo: “Fissa dei limiti intorno al monte, e santificalo”».

24 A nd Jehovah saith unto him, `Go, descend, then thou hast come up, thou, and Aaron with thee; and the priests and the people do not break through, to come up unto Jehovah, lest He break forth upon them.'

Ma il Signore gli disse: «Va’, scendi; poi risalirai insieme ad Aaronne. Ma i sacerdoti e il popolo non facciano irruzione per salire verso il Signore, affinché egli non si avventi contro di loro».

25 A nd Moses goeth down unto the people, and saith unto them: --

Mosè scese verso il popolo e glielo disse.
