1 T urn back, O Israel, unto Jehovah thy God, For thou hast stumbled by thine iniquity.

O Israele, torna al Signore, al tuo Dio, poiché tu sei caduto per la tua iniquità.

2 T ake with you words, and turn to Jehovah, Say ye unto Him: `Take away all iniquity, and give good, And we do render the fruit of our lips.

Preparatevi delle parole e tornate al Signore! Ditegli: «Perdona tutta l’iniquità e accetta questo bene; noi ti offriremo, invece di tori, l’offerta di lode delle nostre labbra.

3 A sshur doth not save us, on a horse we ride not, Nor do we say any more, Our God, to the work of our hands, For in Thee find mercy doth the fatherless.'

L’Assiria non ci salverà, noi non saliremo più sui cavalli e non diremo più: “Dio nostro!” all’opera delle nostre mani; poiché presso di te l’orfano trova misericordia».

4 I heal their backsliding, I love them freely, For turned back hath Mine anger from him.

«Io guarirò la loro infedeltà, io li amerò di cuore, poiché la mia ira si è distolta da loro.

5 I am as dew to Israel, he flourisheth as a lily, And he striketh forth his roots as Lebanon.

Io sarò per Israele come la rugiada; egli fiorirà come il giglio e spanderà le sue radici come il Libano.

6 G o on do his sucklings, And his beauty is as an olive, And he hath fragrance as Lebanon.

I suoi rami si estenderanno; la sua bellezza sarà come quella dell’ulivo, la sua fragranza come quella del Libano.

7 R eturn do the dwellers under his shadow, They revive corn, and flourish as a vine, His memorial as wine of Lebanon.

Quelli che abiteranno alla sua ombra faranno di nuovo crescere il grano e fioriranno come la vite; saranno famosi come il vino del Libano.

8 O Ephraim, what to Me any more with idols? I -- I afflicted, and I cause him to sing: `I as a green fir-tree,' From Me is thy fruit found.

Efraim potrà dire: “Che cosa ho io più da fare con gli idoli?” Io lo esaudirò e veglierò su di lui, io, che sono come un verdeggiante cipresso; da me verrà il tuo frutto».

9 W ho wise, and doth understand these? Prudent, and knoweth them? For upright are the ways of Jehovah, And the righteous go on in them, And the transgressors stumble therein!

Chi è saggio ponga mente a queste cose! Chi è intelligente le riconosca! Poiché le vie del Signore sono rette; i giusti cammineranno per esse, ma i trasgressori vi cadranno.
