1 B ecause of this it behoveth more abundantly to take heed to the things heard, lest we may glide aside,

Perciò bisogna che ci applichiamo ancora di più alle cose udite, per timore di essere trascinati lontano da esse.

2 f or if the word being spoken through messengers did become stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience did receive a just recompense,

Infatti, se la parola pronunciata per mezzo di angeli si dimostrò ferma e ogni trasgressione e disubbidienza ricevette una giusta retribuzione,

3 h ow shall we escape, having neglected so great salvation? which a beginning receiving -- to be spoken through the Lord -- by those having heard was confirmed to us,

come scamperemo noi se trascuriamo una così grande salvezza? Questa, dopo essere stata annunciata prima dal Signore, ci è stata poi confermata da quelli che lo avevano udito,

4 G od also bearing joint-witness both with signs and wonders, and manifold powers, and distributions of the Holy Spirit, according to His will.

mentre Dio stesso aggiungeva la sua testimonianza alla loro con segni e prodigi, con opere potenti di ogni genere e con doni dello Spirito Santo, secondo la sua volontà. Volontaria umiliazione di Cristo

5 F or not to messengers did He subject the coming world, concerning which we speak,

Difatti, non è ad angeli che Dio ha sottoposto il mondo futuro del quale parliamo;

6 a nd one in a certain place did testify fully, saying, `What is man, that Thou art mindful of him, or a son of man, that Thou dost look after him?

anzi, qualcuno in un passo della Scrittura ha reso questa testimonianza: «Che cos’è l’uomo perché tu ti ricordi di lui o il figlio dell’uomo perché tu ti curi di lui?

7 T hou didst make him some little less than messengers, with glory and honour Thou didst crown him, and didst set him over the works of Thy hands,

Tu lo hai fatto di poco inferiore agli angeli; lo hai coronato di gloria e d’onore;

8 a ll things Thou didst put in subjection under his feet,' for in the subjecting to him the all things, nothing did He leave to him unsubjected, and now not yet do we see the all things subjected to him,

tu hai posto ogni cosa sotto i suoi piedi». Avendogli sottoposto tutte le cose, Dio non ha lasciato nulla che non gli sia soggetto. Al presente però non vediamo ancora che tutte le cose gli siano sottoposte;

9 a nd him who was made some little less than messengers we see -- Jesus -- because of the suffering of the death, with glory and honour having been crowned, that by the grace of God for every one he might taste of death.

però vediamo colui che è stato fatto di poco inferiore agli angeli, cioè Gesù, coronato di gloria e di onore a motivo della morte che ha sofferto, affinché, per la grazia di Dio, gustasse la morte per tutti.

10 F or it was becoming to Him, because of whom the all things, and through whom the all things, many sons to glory bringing, the author of their salvation through sufferings to make perfect,

Infatti, per condurre molti figli alla gloria, era giusto che colui a causa del quale e per mezzo del quale sono tutte le cose rendesse perfetto, per via di sofferenze, l’autore della loro salvezza.

11 f or both he who is sanctifying and those sanctified all of one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

Sia colui che santifica sia quelli che sono santificati provengono tutti da uno; per questo egli non si vergogna di chiamarli fratelli,

12 s aying, `I will declare Thy name to my brethren, in the midst of an assembly I will sing praise to Thee;' and again, `I will be trusting on Him;'

dicendo: «Annuncerò il tuo nome ai miei fratelli; in mezzo all’assemblea canterò la tua lode».

13 a nd again, `Behold I and the children that God did give to me.'

E di nuovo: «Io metterò la mia fiducia in lui». E inoltre: «Ecco me e i figli che Dio mi ha dati».

14 S eeing, then, the children have partaken of flesh and blood, he himself also in like manner did take part of the same, that through death he might destroy him having the power of death -- that is, the devil --

Poiché dunque i figli hanno in comune sangue e carne, egli pure vi ha similmente partecipato, per distruggere, con la sua morte, colui che aveva il potere sulla morte, cioè il diavolo,

15 a nd might deliver those, whoever, with fear of death, throughout all their life, were subjects of bondage,

e liberare tutti quelli che dal timore della morte erano tenuti schiavi per tutta la loro vita.

16 f or, doubtless, of messengers it doth not lay hold, but of seed of Abraham it layeth hold,

Infatti, egli non viene in aiuto ad angeli, ma viene in aiuto alla discendenza di Abraamo.

17 w herefore it did behove him in all things to be made like to the brethren, that he might become a kind and stedfast chief-priest in the things with God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people,

Perciò egli doveva diventare simile ai suoi fratelli in ogni cosa, per essere un misericordioso e fedele sommo sacerdote nelle cose che riguardano Dio, per compiere l’espiazione dei peccati del popolo.

18 f or in that he suffered, himself being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

Infatti, poiché egli stesso ha sofferto la tentazione, può venire in aiuto di quelli che sono tentati.
