1 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Go in unto Pharaoh, for I have declared hard his heart, and the heart of his servants, so that I set these My signs in their midst,

Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: «Va’ dal faraone; poiché io ho reso ostinato il suo cuore e il cuore dei suoi servitori, per fare in mezzo a loro i segni che vedrai,

2 a nd so that thou recountest in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, that which I have done in Egypt, and My signs which I have set among them, and ye have known that I Jehovah.'

e perché tu possa raccontare ai tuoi figli e ai figli dei tuoi figli quello che ho operato in Egitto e i segni che ho fatti in mezzo a loro. Così saprete che io sono il Signore ».

3 A nd Moses cometh in -- Aaron also -- unto Pharaoh, and they say unto him, `Thus said Jehovah, God of the Hebrews, Until when hast thou refused to be humbled at My presence? send My people away, and they serve Me,

Mosè e Aaronne andarono dunque dal faraone e gli dissero: «Così dice il Signore, il Dio degli Ebrei: “Fino a quando rifiuterai di umiliarti davanti a me? Lascia andare il mio popolo perché mi serva.

4 f or if thou art refusing to send My people away, lo, I am bringing in to-morrow the locust into thy border,

Se tu rifiuti di lasciar andare il mio popolo, domani farò venire le cavallette su tutto il tuo paese.

5 a nd it hath covered the eye of the land, and none is able to see the land, and it hath eaten the remnant of that which is escaped, which is left to you from the hail, and it hath eaten every tree which is springing for you out of the field;

Esse copriranno la superficie del paese e non si potrà vedere il suolo; divoreranno il resto che è scampato, ciò che è stato lasciato dalla grandine e divoreranno ogni albero che cresce nei campi.

6 a nd they have filled thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians, which neither thy fathers nor thy father's fathers have seen, since the day of their being on the ground unto this day,' -- and he turneth and goeth out from Pharaoh.

Riempiranno le tue case, le case di tutti i tuoi servitori e le case di tutti gli Egiziani, come né i tuoi padri né i padri dei tuoi padri videro mai, dal giorno che furono sulla terra, fino ad oggi”». Detto questo, voltò le spalle e uscì dalla presenza del faraone.

7 A nd the servants of Pharaoh say unto him, `Until when doth this become a snare to us? send the men away, and they serve Jehovah their God; knowest thou not yet that Egypt hath perished?'

I servitori del faraone gli dissero: «Fino a quando quest’uomo sarà per noi un’insidia? Lascia andare questa gente, e che serva il Signore, il suo Dio! Non ti accorgi che l’Egitto è rovinato?»

8 A nd Moses is brought back -- Aaron also -- unto Pharaoh, and he saith unto them, `Go, serve Jehovah your God; -- who and who those going?'

Allora fecero ritornare Mosè e Aaronne dal faraone. Egli disse loro: «Andate, servite il Signore, il vostro Dio; ma chi sono quelli che andranno?» Mosè disse:

9 A nd Moses saith, `With our young ones, and with our aged ones, we go, with our sons, and with our daughters, with our flock, and our herd, we go, for we have a festival to Jehovah.'

«Noi andremo con i nostri bambini e con i nostri vecchi, con i nostri figli e con le nostre figlie; andremo con le nostre greggi e con i nostri armenti, perché dobbiamo celebrare una festa al Signore ».

10 A nd he saith unto them, `Be it so, Jehovah with you when I send you and your infants away; see -- for evil before your faces;

Il faraone disse loro: «Così sia il Signore con voi, come io lascerò andare voi e i vostri bambini! Ma voi avete delle cattive intenzioni!

11 n ot so! go now, ye who men, and serve Jehovah, for that ye are seeking;' and casteth them out from the presence of Pharaoh.

Allora no, andate soltanto voi uomini e servite il Signore; poiché questo è quello che volete». E il faraone li cacciò dalla sua presenza.

12 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Stretch out thy hand against the land of Egypt for the locust, and it goeth up against the land of Egypt, and doth eat every herb of the land -- all that the hail hath left.'

Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: «Stendi la tua mano sul paese d’Egitto per farvi venire le cavallette; ed esse salgano sul paese d’Egitto e divorino tutta l’erba del paese, tutto quello che la grandine ha lasciato».

13 A nd Moses stretcheth out his rod against the land of Egypt, and Jehovah hath led an east wind over the land all that day, and all the night; the morning hath been, and the east wind hath lifted up the locust.

Mosè protese il suo bastone sul paese d’Egitto e il Signore fece levare un vento orientale sul paese, tutto quel giorno e tutta la notte. Quando venne il mattino, il vento orientale aveva portato le cavallette.

14 A nd the locust goeth up against all the land of Egypt, and resteth in all the border of Egypt -- very grievous: before it there hath not been such a locust as it, and after it there is none such;

Le cavallette salirono su tutto il paese d’Egitto e si posarono su tutta l’estensione dell’Egitto. Erano numerosissime: prima non ce n’erano mai state tante, né mai più tante ce ne saranno.

15 a nd it covereth the eye of all the land, and the land is darkened; and it eateth every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail hath left, and there hath not been left any green thing in the trees, or in the herb of the field, in all the land of Egypt.'

Esse coprirono la superficie di tutto il paese, che ne rimase oscurato, e divorarono tutta l’erba del paese e tutti i frutti degli alberi, che la grandine aveva lasciato. Nulla di verde rimase sugli alberi né sulle erbe della campagna, in tutto il paese d’Egitto.

16 A nd Pharaoh hasteth to call for Moses and for Aaron, and saith, `I have sinned against Jehovah your God, and against you,

Allora il faraone chiamò in fretta Mosè e Aaronne e disse: «Io ho peccato contro il Signore, il vostro Dio, e contro di voi.

17 a nd now, bear with, I pray you, my sin, only this time, and make ye supplication to Jehovah your God, that He turn aside from off me only this death.'

Ma ora perdonate, vi prego, il mio peccato, questa volta soltanto. Supplicate il Signore, il vostro Dio, perché almeno allontani da me questo flagello mortale».

18 A nd he goeth out from Pharaoh, and maketh supplication unto Jehovah,

Mosè uscì dalla presenza del faraone e pregò il Signore.

19 a nd Jehovah turneth a very strong sea wind, and it lifteth up the locust, and bloweth it into the Red Sea -- there hath not been left one locust in all the border of Egypt;

Il Signore fece levare un vento contrario, un fortissimo vento di ponente, che portò via le cavallette e le precipitò nel mar Rosso. Non rimase neppure una cavalletta in tutta l’estensione dell’Egitto.

20 a nd Jehovah strengtheneth the heart of Pharaoh, and he hath not sent the sons of Israel away.

Ma il Signore indurì il cuore del faraone, e questi non lasciò andare i figli d’Israele. Le tenebre in Egitto

21 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Stretch out thy hand towards the heavens, and there is darkness over the land of Egypt, and the darkness is felt.'

Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: «Stendi la tua mano verso il cielo e vi siano tenebre nel paese d’Egitto, così fitte da potersi toccare.

22 A nd Moses stretcheth out his hand towards the heavens, and there is darkness -- thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days;

Mosè stese la sua mano verso il cielo e per tre giorni ci fu una fitta oscurità in tutto il paese d’Egitto.

23 t hey have not seen one another, and none hath risen from his place three days; and to all the sons of Israel there hath been light in their dwellings.'

Non ci si vedeva più l’un l’altro e per tre giorni nessuno si mosse da dove stava; ma tutti i figli d’Israele avevano luce nelle loro abitazioni.

24 A nd Pharaoh calleth unto Moses and saith, `Go ye, serve Jehovah, only your flock and your herd are stayed, your infants also go with you;'

Allora il faraone chiamò Mosè e disse: «Andate, servite il Signore; rimangano soltanto le vostre greggi e i vostri armenti; anche i vostri bambini potranno andare con voi».

25 a nd Moses saith, `Thou also dost give in our hand sacrifices and burnt-offerings, and we have prepared for Jehovah our God;

Mosè disse: «Tu ci devi permettere di avere sacrifici e olocausti da offrire al Signore, il nostro Dio.

26 a nd also our cattle doth go with us, there is not left a hoof, for from it we do take to serve Jehovah our God; and we -- we know not how we do serve Jehovah till our going thither.'

Perciò anche il nostro bestiame verrà con noi, senza che ne rimanga indietro neppure un’unghia; poiché da esso dobbiamo prendere le vittime per servire il Signore, nostro Dio, e noi non sapremo con quali vittime dovremo servire il Signore, finché non saremo giunti là».

27 A nd Jehovah strengtheneth the heart of Pharaoh, and he hath not been willing to send them away;

Ma il Signore indurì il cuore del faraone, e questi non volle lasciarli andare.

28 a nd Pharaoh saith to him, `Go from me, take heed to thyself, add not to see my face, for in the day thou seest my face thou diest;'

E il faraone disse a Mosè: «Vattene via da me! Guàrdati bene dal comparire ancora alla mia presenza, perché il giorno che comparirai alla mia presenza morirai!»

29 a nd Moses saith, `Rightly hast thou spoken, I add not any more to see thy face.'

Mosè rispose: «Hai detto bene; io non comparirò più davanti a te».
