1 A nd in these days, the disciples multiplying, there came a murmuring of the Hellenists at the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily ministration,

In quei giorni, moltiplicandosi il numero dei discepoli, sorse un mormorio da parte degli Ellenisti contro gli Ebrei, perché le loro vedove erano trascurate nell’assistenza quotidiana.

2 a nd the twelve, having called near the multitude of the disciples, said, `It is not pleasing that we, having left the word of God, do minister at tables;

I dodici, convocata la moltitudine dei discepoli, dissero: «Non è conveniente che noi lasciamo la Parola di Dio per servire alle mense.

3 l ook out, therefore, brethren, seven men of you who are well testified of, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may set over this necessity,

Pertanto, fratelli, cercate di trovare fra di voi sette uomini, dei quali si abbia buona testimonianza, pieni di Spirito e di sapienza, ai quali affideremo questo incarico.

4 a nd we to prayer, and to the ministration of the word, will give ourselves continually.'

Quanto a noi, continueremo a dedicarci alla preghiera e al ministero della Parola».

5 A nd the thing was pleasing before all the multitude, and they did choose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch,

Questa proposta piacque a tutta la moltitudine; ed elessero Stefano, uomo pieno di fede e di Spirito Santo, Filippo, Procoro, Nicanore, Timone, Parmena e Nicola, proselito di Antiochia.

6 w hom they did set before the apostles, and they, having prayed, laid on them hands.

Li presentarono agli apostoli, i quali, dopo aver pregato, imposero loro le mani.

7 A nd the word of God did increase, and the number of the disciples did multiply in Jerusalem exceedingly; a great multitude also of the priests were obedient to the faith.

La Parola di Dio si diffondeva, e il numero dei discepoli si moltiplicava grandemente in Gerusalemme; e anche un gran numero di sacerdoti ubbidiva alla fede. Arresto di Stefano

8 A nd Stephen, full of faith and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people,

Ora Stefano, pieno di grazia e di potenza, faceva grandi prodigi e segni tra il popolo.

9 a nd there arose certain of those of the synagogue, called of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia, and Asia, disputing with Stephen,

Ma alcuni della sinagoga detta «dei Liberti», dei Cirenei, degli Alessandrini, di quelli di Cilicia e d’Asia si misero a discutere con Stefano;

10 a nd they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit with which he was speaking;

e non potevano resistere alla sapienza e allo Spirito con cui egli parlava.

11 t hen they suborned men, saying -- `We have heard him speaking evil sayings in regard to Moses and God.'

Allora istigarono degli uomini che dissero: «Noi lo abbiamo udito mentre pronunciava parole di bestemmia contro Mosè e contro Dio».

12 T hey did stir up also the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and having come upon, they caught him, and brought to the sanhedrim;

Essi misero in agitazione il popolo, gli anziani, gli scribi; e, venutigli addosso, lo afferrarono e lo condussero al sinedrio;

13 t hey set up also false witnesses, saying, `This one doth not cease to speak evil sayings against this holy place and the law,

e presentarono dei falsi testimoni, che dicevano: «Quest’uomo non cessa di proferire parole contro {questo} luogo santo e contro la legge.

14 f or we have heard him saying, That this Jesus the Nazarean shall overthrow this place, and shall change the customs that Moses delivered to us;'

Infatti lo abbiamo udito affermare che quel Nazareno, Gesù, distruggerà questo luogo e cambierà gli usi che Mosè ci ha tramandati».

15 a nd gazing at him, all those sitting in the sanhedrim saw his face as it were the face of a messenger.

E tutti quelli che sedevano nel sinedrio, fissati gli occhi su di lui, videro il suo viso simile a quello di un angelo.
