1 A nd in these days, the disciples multiplying, there came a murmuring of the Hellenists at the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily ministration,

În zilele acelea, când numărul ucenicilor creştea, evreii elenişti au început să murmure împotriva evreilor autohtoni, pentru că văduvele lor erau trecute cu vederea la distribuirea zilnică a celor necesare.

2 a nd the twelve, having called near the multitude of the disciples, said, `It is not pleasing that we, having left the word of God, do minister at tables;

Cei doisprezece au adunat mulţimea ucenicilor şi le-au zis: „Nu este potrivit pentru noi să lăsăm Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu ca să slujim la mese!

3 l ook out, therefore, brethren, seven men of you who are well testified of, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may set over this necessity,

Prin urmare, fraţilor, alegeţi dintre voi şapte bărbaţi vorbiţi de bine, plini de Duhul Sfânt şi de înţelepciune, pe care să-i punem responsabili cu îndatorirea aceasta,

4 a nd we to prayer, and to the ministration of the word, will give ourselves continually.'

iar noi vom continua să dăm atenţie rugăciunii şi slujirii Cuvântului.“

5 A nd the thing was pleasing before all the multitude, and they did choose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch,

Vorbirea aceasta a plăcut întregii mulţimi, aşa că l-au ales pe Ştefan, un bărbat plin de credinţă şi de Duhul Sfânt, pe Filip, pe Prohorus, pe Nicanor, pe Timon, pe Parmenas şi pe Nicolaus, un prozelit din Antiohia;

6 w hom they did set before the apostles, and they, having prayed, laid on them hands.

i-au adus înaintea apostolilor, care s-au rugat şi şi-au pus mâinile peste ei.

7 A nd the word of God did increase, and the number of the disciples did multiply in Jerusalem exceedingly; a great multitude also of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu continua să se răspândească, numărul ucenicilor creştea tot mai mult în Ierusalim şi foarte mulţi preoţi veneau la credinţă. Arestarea lui Ştefan

8 A nd Stephen, full of faith and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people,

Ştefan, un om plin de har şi de putere, făcea minuni şi semne mari în popor.

9 a nd there arose certain of those of the synagogue, called of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia, and Asia, disputing with Stephen,

Unii din sinagoga numită „A oamenilor liberi “ – a celor din Cirena, a celor din Alexandria şi a celor din Cilicia şi din Asia – au început o dispută cu Ştefan,

10 a nd they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit with which he was speaking;

dar nu puteau să se opună înţelepciunii şi Duhului cu care vorbea el.

11 t hen they suborned men, saying -- `We have heard him speaking evil sayings in regard to Moses and God.'

Atunci au plătit nişte bărbaţi care să spună: „Noi l-am auzit rostind cuvinte blasfemiatoare împotriva lui Moise şi împotriva lui Dumnezeu!“

12 T hey did stir up also the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and having come upon, they caught him, and brought to the sanhedrim;

Au incitat pe popor, pe bătrâni şi pe cărturari, s-au repezit asupra lui, l-au înşfăcat şi l-au dus înaintea Sinedriului.

13 t hey set up also false witnesses, saying, `This one doth not cease to speak evil sayings against this holy place and the law,

Au scos nişte martori mincinoşi, care au zis: „Omul acesta nu încetează să rostească cuvinte blasfemiatoare împotriva acestui Lăcaş sfânt şi împotriva Legii!

14 f or we have heard him saying, That this Jesus the Nazarean shall overthrow this place, and shall change the customs that Moses delivered to us;'

Căci l-am auzit spunând că Acest Isus din Nazaret va distruge locul acesta şi va schimba obiceiurile pe care ni le-a încredinţat Moise!“

15 a nd gazing at him, all those sitting in the sanhedrim saw his face as it were the face of a messenger.

Toţi cei ce şedeau în Sinedriu s-au uitat ţintă la el şi au văzut că faţa lui arăta ca faţa unui înger.
