1 A nd there was a certain man in Cesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a band called Italian,

În Cezareea era un om pe nume Corneliu, un centurion din cohorta numită „Italiana“.

2 p ious, and fearing God with all his house, doing also many kind acts to the people, and beseeching God always,

Era evlavios şi temător de Dumnezeu, împreună cu toată casa lui. El făcea multe milostenii poporului şi se ruga mereu lui Dumnezeu.

3 h e saw in a vision manifestly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, `Cornelius;'

Într-o zi, cam pe la ceasul al nouălea, a văzut clar, într-o viziune, pe un înger al lui Dumnezeu intrând la el şi spunându-i: – Corneliu!

4 a nd he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, `What is it, Lord?' And he said to him, `Thy prayers and thy kind acts came up for a memorial before God,

Corneliu s-a uitat ţintă la el şi s-a înspăimântat. El a zis: – Ce este, domnule? Îngerul i-a spus: – Rugăciunile şi milosteniile tale s-au suit înaintea lui Dumnezeu, ca o jertfă de aducere-aminte.

5 a nd now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter,

Acum, trimite nişte bărbaţi la Iafo şi cheamă-l pe Simon, cel care mai este numit şi Petru.

6 t his one doth lodge with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one shall speak to thee what it behoveth thee to do.'

El găzduieşte la Simon, un tăbăcar, a cărui casă este lângă mare.

7 A nd when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his domestics, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually,

Cum a plecat îngerul care-i vorbise, Corneliu a chemat doi din slujitorii săi din casă şi un soldat evlavios, care-i era devotat tot timpul,

8 a nd having declared to them all things, he sent them to Joppa.

şi, după ce le-a istorisit totul, i-a trimis la Iafo. Viziunea lui Petru

9 A nd on the morrow, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing nigh to the city, Peter went up upon the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour,

În ziua următoare, în timp ce ei erau pe drum şi se apropiau de cetate, Petru s-a suit pe acoperiş să se roage pe la ceasul al şaselea.

10 a nd he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell upon him a trance,

I s-a făcut foame şi a vrut să mănânce. În timp ce-i pregăteau masa, a căzut într-o răpire sufletească.

11 a nd he doth behold the heaven opened, and descending unto him a certain vessel, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down upon the earth,

A văzut cerul deschis şi ceva ca o pânză mare fiind coborâtă pe pământ de cele patru colţuri.

12 i n which were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the heaven,

În ea se aflau tot felul de patrupede, animale mici ale pământului şi păsări ale cerului.

13 a nd there came a voice unto him: `Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.'

Un glas i-a vorbit astfel: – Petru, ridică-te, înjunghie şi mănâncă!

14 A nd Peter said, `Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean;'

Însă Petru a zis: – În nici un caz, Doamne! Căci niciodată n-am mâncat ceva pângărit sau necurat!

15 a nd a voice again a second time unto him: `What God did cleanse, thou, declare not thou common;'

Glasul i-a vorbit din nou, a doua oară: – Ceea ce a curăţit Dumnezeu, să nu numeşti pângărit!

16 a nd this was done thrice, and again was the vessel received up to the heaven.

Lucrul acesta s-a întâmplat de trei ori; apoi, imediat pânza a fost luată la cer.

17 A nd as Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he saw might be, then, lo, the men who have been sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for the house of Simon, stood at the gate,

În timp ce Petru era preocupat de înţelesul acestei viziuni, iată că bărbaţii trimişi de Corneliu aflaseră unde este casa lui Simon şi stăteau la poartă,

18 a nd having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, doth lodge here?

întrebând cu glas tare dacă Simon, care mai este numit şi Petru, găzduieşte acolo.

19 A nd Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, `Lo, three men do seek thee;

În timp ce Petru încă se gândea la viziune, Duhul i-a zis: „Iată că te caută trei bărbaţi;

20 b ut having risen, go down and go on with them, nothing doubting, because I have sent them;'

ridică-te deci, coboară şi du-te cu ei fără să faci deosebire, pentru că Eu i-am trimis.“

21 a nd Peter having come down unto the men who have been sent from Cornelius unto him, said, `Lo, I am he whom ye seek, what the cause for which ye are present?'

Aşadar, Petru a coborât la bărbaţii aceia şi le-a zis: – Eu sunt cel pe care-l căutaţi. Care este motivul pentru care aţi venit?

22 A nd they said, `Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for thee, to his house, and to hear sayings from thee.'

Ei i-au răspuns: – Centurionul Corneliu, om drept, temător de Dumnezeu şi vorbit de bine prin tot neamul iudeilor, a fost înştiinţat printr-un înger sfânt să trimită să te cheme în casa lui şi să audă cuvinte de la tine.

23 H aving called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the morrow Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa went with him,

Petru deci i-a invitat înăuntru şi i-a găzduit. Petru, acasă la Corneliu În ziua următoare s-a sculat şi a plecat împreună cu ei; l-au însoţit şi unii dintre fraţii din Iafo.

24 a nd on the morrow they did enter into Cesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kindred and near friends,

O zi mai târziu au ajuns în Cezareea. Corneliu îi aştepta împreună cu rudele şi prietenii apropiaţi pe care-i invitase.

25 a nd as it came that Peter entered in, Cornelius having met him, having fallen at feet, did bow before;

Pe când dădea Petru să intre în casă, Corneliu l-a întâmpinat, a căzut la picioarele lui şi i s-a închinat.

26 a nd Peter raised him, saying, `Stand up; I also myself am a man;'

Petru însă l-a ridicat, zicând: – Ridică-te! Şi eu sunt tot om!

27 a nd talking with him he went in, and doth find many having come together.

Şi, continuând să vorbească cu el, a intrat înăuntru, unde a găsit mulţi oameni care se adunaseră.

28 A nd he said unto them, `Ye know how it is unlawful for a man, a Jew, to keep company with, or to come unto, one of another race, but to me God did shew to call no man common or unclean;

El le-a zis: – Ştiţi că unui iudeu îi este interzis de Lege să se asocieze sau să viziteze un străin, dar Dumnezeu mi-a arătat să nu numesc pe nici un om pângărit sau necurat.

29 t herefore also without gainsaying I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter ye did send for me?'

De aceea am venit fără ezitare când s-a trimis după mine. Vă întreb deci, cu ce scop aţi trimis după mine?

30 A nd Cornelius said, `Four days ago till this hour, I was fasting, and the ninth hour praying in my house, and, lo, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

Corneliu a zis: – Cu patru zile în urmă, eram în casa mea şi mă rugam chiar în ceasul acesta, ceasul al nouălea. Şi iată că un om îmbrăcat în haine strălucitoare a stat înaintea mea

31 a nd he said, Cornelius, thy prayer was heard, and thy kind acts were remembered before God;

şi a zis: „Corneliu, rugăciunea ta a fost ascultată şi milosteniile tale au fost amintite înaintea lui Dumnezeu.

32 s end, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one doth lodge in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, shall speak to thee;

Prin urmare, trimite la Iafo şi cheamă-l pe Simon, care mai este numit şi Petru; el găzduieşte în casa lui Simon, un tăbăcar, lângă mare (; când va veni el, îţi va vorbi).

33 a t once, therefore, I sent to thee; thou also didst do well, having come; now, therefore, are we all before God present to hear all things that have been commanded thee by God.'

Am trimis deci imediat la tine şi ai făcut bine că ai venit. Acum deci noi toţi suntem prezenţi aici, înaintea lui Dumnezeu, ca să auzim tot ce ţi-a poruncit Domnul!

34 A nd Peter having opened his mouth, said, `Of a truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons,

Atunci Petru a luat cuvântul şi a zis: – Într-adevăr, înţeleg acum că Dumnezeu nu este părtinitor,

35 b ut in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him;

ci că, în orice neam, cel ce se teme de El şi lucrează dreptate este primit de El.

36 t he word that he sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news -- peace through Jesus Christ (this one is Lord of all,)

El a trimis fiilor lui Israel Cuvântul, vestind Evanghelia păcii prin Isus Cristos, Care este Domnul tuturor.

37 y e -- ye have known; -- the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the baptism that John preached;

Voi ştiţi ce s-a întâmplat prin toată Iudeea, începând din Galileea, după botezul predicat de Ioan:

38 J esus who from Nazareth -- how God did anoint him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the devil, because God was with him;

cum Dumnezeu L-a uns cu Duhul Sfânt şi cu putere pe Isus din Nazaret, Care mergea pretutindeni, făcând bine şi vindecându-i pe toţi cei ce erau asupriţi de diavolul, căci Dumnezeu era cu El.

39 a nd we -- we are witnesses of all things that he did, both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem, -- whom they did slay, having hanged upon a tree.

Noi suntem martori ai tuturor lucrurilor pe care le-a făcut El în ţara iudeilor şi în Ierusalim; El este Cel pe Care ei L-au omorât, atârnându-L pe lemn.

40 ` This one God did raise up the third day, and gave him to become manifest,

Pe El, Dumnezeu L-a înviat a treia zi şi a îngăduit să Se facă văzut,

41 n ot to all the people, but to witnesses, to those having been chosen before by God -- to us who did eat with, and did drink with him, after his rising out of the dead;

nu întregului popor, ci nouă, martorilor aleşi mai dinainte de Dumnezeu, nouă, care am mâncat şi am băut împreună cu El după ce a înviat dintre cei morţi.

42 a nd he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify fully that it is he who hath been ordained by God judge of living and dead --

El ne-a poruncit să predicăm poporului şi să depunem mărturie că El este Cel desemnat de Dumnezeu ca Judecător al celor vii şi al celor morţi.

43 t o this one do all the prophets testify, that through his name every one that is believing in him doth receive remission of sins.'

Toţi profeţii depun mărturie despre El, şi anume că oricine crede în El primeşte, prin Numele Lui, iertarea de păcate.

44 W hile Peter is yet speaking these sayings, the Holy spirit fell upon all those hearing the word,

În timp ce rostea Petru aceste cuvinte, Duhul Sfânt S-a coborât peste toţi cei ce ascultau Cuvântul.

45 a nd those of the circumcision believing were astonished -- as many as came with Peter -- because also upon the nations the gift of the Holy Spirit hath been poured out,

Credincioşii circumcişi care veniseră cu Petru au rămas uluiţi de faptul că darul Duhului Sfânt fusese turnat şi peste neamuri.

46 f or they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.

Căci îi auzeau vorbind în limbi şi preamărindu-L pe Dumnezeu. Atunci Petru a zis:

47 T hen answered Peter, `The water is any one able to forbid, that these may not be baptized, who the Holy Spirit did receive -- even as also we?'

„Oare poate opri cineva apa să nu fie botezaţi aceştia, care au primit Duhul Sfânt ca şi noi?!“

48 h e commanded them also to be baptized in the name of the Lord; then they besought him to remain certain days.

Şi a poruncit să fie botezaţi în Numele lui Isus Cristos. Atunci l-au rugat să mai rămână câteva zile la ei.
