1 A nd it cometh to pass that Isaac aged, and his eyes are too dim for seeing, and he calleth Esau his elder son, and saith unto him, `My son;' and he saith unto him, `Here I.'

Când a îmbătrânit şi i-au slăbit ochii, astfel încât nu mai putea să vadă, Isaac l-a chemat pe Esau, fiul său cel mare, şi i-a zis: – Fiule! – Iată-mă! a răspuns el.

2 A nd he saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have become aged, I have not known the day of my death;

– Eu sunt bătrân şi nu ştiu ziua morţii mele, i-a spus Isaac.

3 a nd now, take up, I pray thee, thy instruments, thy quiver, and thy bow, and go out to the field, and hunt for me provision,

Deci ia-ţi armele – tolba cu săgeţi şi arcul – du-te la câmp şi adu-mi vânat.

4 a nd make for me tasteful things, as I have loved, and bring in to me, and I do eat, so that my soul doth bless thee before I die.'

Apoi pregăteşte-mi o mâncare gustoasă, aşa cum îmi place mie şi adu-mi-o să o mănânc, pentru ca să te pot binecuvânta înainte de a muri.

5 A nd Rebekah is hearkening while Isaac is speaking unto Esau his son; and Esau goeth to the field to hunt provision -- to bring in;

Rebeca a tras cu urechea la ceea ce Isaac i-a spus fiului său Esau. Apoi, după ce Esau a plecat la câmp ca să prindă vânat şi să-l aducă,

6 a nd Rebekah hath spoken unto Jacob her son, saying, `Lo, I have heard thy father speaking unto Esau thy brother, saying,

Rebeca i-a zis fiului său Iacov: – L-am auzit pe tatăl tău cerându-i fratelui tău, Esau,

7 B ring for me provision, and make for me tasteful things, and I do eat, and bless thee before Jehovah before my death.

să-i aducă vânat şi să-i pregătească o mâncare gustoasă ca să o mănânce, pentru ca să îl binecuvânteze înaintea Domnului înainte de a muri.

8 ` And now, my son, hearken to my voice, to that which I am commanding thee:

De aceea, fiule, ascultă-mă şi fă ceea ce-ţi poruncesc!

9 G o, I pray thee, unto the flock, and take for me from thence two good kids of the goats, and I make them tasteful things for thy father, as he hath loved;

Du-te la turmă şi alege-mi de acolo doi iezi, ca să-i fac tatălui tău o mâncare gustoasă, aşa cum îi place lui;

10 a nd thou hast taken in to thy father, and he hath eaten, so that his soul doth bless thee before his death.

apoi tu o vei duce tatălui tău să o mănânce, pentru ca el să te binecuvânteze înainte să moară.

11 A nd Jacob saith unto Rebekah his mother, `Lo, Esau my brother a hairy man, and I a smooth man,

Dar Iacov i-a răspuns mamei sale, Rebeca: – Fratele meu, Esau, este păros, iar eu am pielea netedă.

12 i t may be my father doth feel me, and I have been in his eyes as a deceiver, and have brought upon me disesteem, and not a blessing;'

Dacă tatăl meu mă va pipăi, mă va considera un înşelător şi voi atrage asupra mea blestemul în locul binecuvântării.

13 a nd his mother saith to him, `On me thy disesteem, my son; only hearken to my voice, and go, take for me.'

– Asupra mea să cadă blestemul tău, fiule, a spus mama sa. Ascultă-mă deci! Du-te şi adu-mi iezii!

14 A nd he goeth, and taketh, and bringeth to his mother, and his mother maketh tasteful things, as his father hath loved;

El s-a dus, i-a luat şi i-a adus mamei sale, iar mama sa a pregătit o mâncare gustoasă, aşa cum îi plăcea tatălui său.

15 a nd Rebekah taketh the desirable garments of Esau her elder son, which with her in the house, and doth put on Jacob her younger son;

După aceea, a luat cele mai bune haine ale fiului său cel mare, Esau, pe care le avea acasă şi l-a îmbrăcat cu ele pe fiul său cel mic, Iacov;

16 a nd the skins of the kids of the goats she hath put on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck,

ea a pus pieile iezilor pe mâinile lui şi pe partea netedă a gâtului său.

17 a nd she giveth the tasteful things, and the bread which she hath made, into the hand of Jacob her son.

Apoi i-a dat fiului său Iacov mâncarea gustoasă şi pâinea pe care le pregătise,

18 A nd he cometh in unto his father, and saith, `My father;' and he saith, `Here I; who thou, my son?'

iar el s-a dus la tatăl său şi i-a zis: – Tată! – Aici sunt! a răspuns el. Care eşti, fiule?

19 A nd Jacob saith unto his father, `I Esau thy first-born; I have done as thou hast spoken unto me; rise, I pray thee, sit, and eat of my provision, so that thy soul doth bless me.'

– Sunt Esau, întâiul tău născut, i-a răspuns Iacov. Am făcut aşa cum mi-ai spus; acum scoală-te, şezi şi mănâncă din vânatul meu, pentru ca să mă binecuvântezi.

20 A nd Isaac saith unto his son, `What this thou hast hasted to find, my son?' and he saith, `That which Jehovah thy God hath caused to come before me.'

– Cum de l-ai găsit aşa de repede, fiule? l-a întrebat Isaac. – Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, mi l-a scos în cale, a răspuns el.

21 A nd Isaac saith unto Jacob, `Come nigh, I pray thee, and I feel thee, my son, whether thou he, my son Esau, or not.'

Atunci Isaac i-a zis lui Iacov: – Apropie-te ca să te pot pipăi, fiule, pentru ca să-mi dau seama dacă tu eşti într-adevăr fiul meu Esau.

22 A nd Jacob cometh nigh unto Isaac his father, and he feeleth him, and saith, `The voice the voice of Jacob, and the hands hands of Esau.'

Iacov s-a apropiat de tatăl său, Isaac, care l-a pipăit şi şi-a zis: „Vocea este a lui Iacov, dar mâinile sunt ale lui Esau.“

23 A nd he hath not discerned him, for his hands have been hairy, as the hands of Esau his brother, and he blesseth him,

Nu l-a recunoscut, pentru că mâinile lui erau păroase la fel ca şi mâinile fratelui său, Esau; aşa că l-a binecuvântat.

24 a nd saith, `Thou art he -- my son Esau?' and he saith, `I.'

Isaac l-a întrebat încă o dată: – Eşti tu într-adevăr fiul meu Esau? – Da, sunt! a răspuns Iacov.

25 A nd he saith, `Bring nigh to me, and I do eat of my son's provision, so that my soul doth bless thee;' and he bringeth nigh to him, and he eateth; and he bringeth to him wine, and he drinketh.

Atunci Isaac a zis: – Adu-mi să mănânc din vânatul fiului meu, pentru ca să te binecuvântez. Iacov i-a adus mâncarea, iar Isaac a mâncat; i-a adus şi vin ca să bea.

26 A nd Isaac his father saith to him, `Come nigh, I pray thee, and kiss me, my son;'

Apoi tatăl său, Isaac, i-a zis: – Apropie-te şi sărută-mă, fiule.

27 a nd he cometh nigh, and kisseth him, and he smelleth the fragrance of his garments, and blesseth him, and saith, `See, the fragrance of my son as the fragrance of a field which Jehovah hath blessed;

El s-a apropiat şi l-a sărutat; Isaac a simţit mirosul hainelor lui şi l-a binecuvântat zicând: „Mirosul fiului meu este ca mirosul câmpului pe care Domnul l-a binecuvântat.

28 a nd God doth give to thee of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of corn and wine;

Dumnezeu să-ţi dea din roua cerului şi din grăsimea pământului; să-ţi dea grâne şi vin din belşug.

29 p eoples serve thee, and nations bow themselves to thee, be thou mighty over thy brethren, and the sons of thy mother bow themselves to thee; those who curse thee cursed, and those who bless thee blessed.'

Popoare să-ţi slujească şi noroade să se plece înaintea ta. Stăpâneşte peste fraţii tăi şi fiii mamei tale să se plece înaintea ta. Blestemaţi să fie cei care te vor blestema şi binecuvântaţi să fie cei care te vor binecuvânta!“

30 A nd it cometh to pass, as Isaac hath finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob is only just going out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother hath come in from his hunting;

Imediat după ce Isaac l-a binecuvântat pe Iacov, iar acesta a plecat dinaintea tatălui său, Isaac, fratele său, Esau, s-a întors de la vânătoare.

31 a nd he also maketh tasteful things, and bringeth to his father, and saith to his father, `Let my father arise, and eat of his son's provision, so that thy soul doth bless me.'

A pregătit şi el o mâncare gustoasă şi i-a adus-o tatălui său, zicând: – Tată, scoală-te şi mănâncă din vânatul fiului tău, pentru ca să mă binecuvântezi.

32 A nd Isaac his father saith to him, `Who thou?' and he saith, `I thy son, thy first-born, Esau;'

– Tu cine eşti? l-a întrebat tatăl său, Isaac. – Sunt fiul tău cel întâi născut, Esau! a răspuns el.

33 a nd Isaac trembleth a very great trembling, and saith, `Who, now, he who hath provided provision, and bringeth in to me, and I eat of all before thou comest in, and I bless him? -- yea, blessed is he.'

Atunci Isaac a început să tremure foarte tare şi a zis: – Atunci cine a fost cel care a prins vânat şi mi l-a adus? Din a cui mâncare am mâncat eu înainte să vii tu şi pe cine am binecuvântat? Cu siguranţă, el va fi binecuvântat.

34 W hen Esau heareth the words of his father, then he crieth a very great and bitter cry, and saith to his father, `Bless me, me also, O my father;'

Când a auzit cuvintele tatălui său, Esau a scos un strigăt puternic, plin de amărăciune, şi i-a spus tatălui său: – Binecuvântează-mă şi pe mine, tată!

35 a nd he saith, `Thy brother hath come with subtilty, and taketh thy blessing.'

– Fratele tău a venit cu înşelăciune şi ţi-a luat binecuvântarea, i-a răspuns tatăl său.

36 A nd he saith, `Is it because called his name Jacob that he doth take me by the heel these two times? my birthright he hath taken; and lo, now, he hath taken my blessing;' he saith also, `Hast thou not kept back a blessing for me?'

– Nu pe bună dreptate se numeşte el Iacov ? a zis Esau. M-a înşelat de două ori: mai întâi mi-a luat dreptul de întâi născut, iar acum mi-a luat şi binecuvântarea. N-ai păstrat nici o binecuvântare pentru mine? a adăugat el.

37 A nd Isaac answereth and saith to Esau, `Lo, a mighty one have I set him over thee, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants, and corn and wine have I sustained him; and for thee now, what shall I do, my son?'

Isaac i-a răspuns lui Esau: – L-am rânduit drept stăpân peste tine, i le-am dat pe toate rudele sale ca slujitori şi l-am ajutat cu grâne şi vin. Ce mai pot face pentru tine, fiule?

38 A nd Esau saith unto his father, `One blessing hast thou my father? bless me, me also, O my father;' and Esau lifteth up his voice, and weepeth.

– Numai o binecuvântare ai, tată? i-a zis Esau tatălui său. Binecuvântează-mă şi pe mine! Apoi şi-a ridicat glasul şi a plâns.

39 A nd Isaac his father answereth and saith unto him, `Lo, of the fatness of the earth is thy dwelling, and of the dew of the heavens from above;

Tatăl său, Isaac, i-a răspuns: – Locuinţa ta va fi departe de grăsimea pământului şi de roua cerului de sus.

40 a nd by thy sword dost thou live, and thy brother dost thou serve; and it hath come to pass when thou rulest, that thou hast broken his yoke from off thy neck.'

Vei trăi din sabia ta şi-i vei sluji fratelui tău; dar când te vei răscula, îi vei zdrobi jugul de pe gâtul tău. Fuga lui Iacov la Laban

41 A nd Esau hateth Jacob, because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau saith in his heart, `The days of mourning my father draw near, and I slay Jacob my brother.'

Esau l-a urât pe Iacov din cauza binecuvântării pe care tatăl său i-a dat-o şi şi-a zis: „Zilele de jale pentru tatăl meu se apropie; apoi îl voi ucide pe fratele meu, Iacov.“

42 A nd the words of Esau her elder son are declared to Rebekah, and she sendeth and calleth for Jacob her younger son, and saith unto him, `Lo, Esau thy brother is comforting himself in regard to thee -- to slay thee;

Când a aflat de planurile lui Esau, fiul ei cel mare, Rebeca a trimis după Iacov, fiul ei cel mic, şi i-a zis: „Fratele tău, Esau, se împacă cu gândul că te va omorî.

43 a nd now, my son, hearken to my voice, and rise, flee for thyself unto Laban my brother, to Haran,

De aceea, fiule, ascultă-mă! Fugi de îndată la fratele meu, Laban, în Haran

44 a nd thou hast dwelt with him some days, till thy brother's fury turn back,

şi stai la el pentru o vreme, până va scădea ura fratelui tău,

45 t ill thy brother's anger turn back from thee, and he hath forgotten that which thou hast done to him, and I have sent and taken thee from thence; why am I bereaved even of you both the same day?'

până se va potoli mânia lui faţă de tine şi va uita ce i-ai făcut. Apoi voi trimite după tine şi te voi aduce înapoi de acolo. De ce să vă pierd pe amândoi în aceeaşi zi?“

46 A nd Rebekah saith unto Isaac, `I have been disgusted with my life because of the presence of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these -- from the daughters of the land -- why do I live?'

După aceea, Rebeca i-a zis lui Isaac: „M-am scârbit de viaţă din cauza acestor hitite; dacă Iacov îşi va lua o soţie dintre fetele ţării, o hitită ca acestea, la ce-mi mai este bună viaţa?“
