1 A nd they come nigh -- all the heads of the forces, and Johanan son of Kareah, and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest --

Apoi toţi conducătorii oştirilor, Iohanan, fiul lui Careah, Iezania, fiul lui Hoşaia, şi tot poporul, de la cel mai mic la cel mai mare, s-au apropiat

2 a nd they say unto Jeremiah the prophet, `Let, we pray thee, our supplication fall before thee, and pray for us unto Jehovah thy God, for all this remnant; for we have been left a few out of many, as thine eyes do see us;

de profetul Ieremia şi i-au zis: – Te rugăm, fie bine primită înaintea ta cererea noastră! Mijloceşte în favoarea noastră la Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, pentru toată rămăşiţa aceasta, căci, după cum bine vezi tu însuţi, am mai rămas puţini din câţi am fost.

3 a nd Jehovah thy God doth declare to us the way in which we walk, and the thing that we do.'

Roagă-te ca Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, să ne arate calea pe care trebuie să mergem şi ce trebuie să facem.

4 A nd Jeremiah the prophet saith unto them, `I have heard: lo, I am praying unto Jehovah your God according to your words, and it hath come to pass, the whole word that Jehovah answereth you, I declare to you -- I do not withhold from you a word.'

Profetul Ieremia le-a răspuns: – V-am auzit şi voi mijloci în favoarea voastră la Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, după cum mi-aţi cerut. Vă voi descoperi tot ce-mi va spune Domnul şi n-am să vă ascund nimic.

5 A nd they have said to Jeremiah, `Jehovah is against us for a witness true and faithful, if -- according to all the word with which Jehovah thy God doth send thee unto us -- we do not so.

Atunci, ei i-au zis lui Ieremia: – Domnul să fie un martor adevărat şi credincios împotriva noastră dacă nu vom împlini tot ceea ce Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, te va trimite să ne spui.

6 W hether good or evil, to the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we are sending thee, we do hearken; because it is good for us when we hearken to the voice of Jehovah our God.'

Fie bine, fie rău, noi vom asculta de glasul Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru, la care te trimitem, ca să ne meargă bine ascultând de Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru.

7 A nd it cometh to pass, at the end of ten days, that there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah,

După zece zile, Cuvântul Domnului a venit la Ieremia.

8 a nd he calleth unto Johanan son of Kareah, and unto all the heads of the forces that with him, and to all the people, from the least even unto the greatest,

El a chemat pe Iohanan, fiul lui Careah, pe toţi conducătorii oştirilor care-l însoţeau şi pe tot poporul, de la cel mai mic la cel mai mare,

9 a nd he saith unto them, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me, to cause your supplication to fall before Him:

şi le-a zis: – Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, la Care voi m-aţi trimis să-i prezint cererile voastre:

10 ` If ye do certainly dwell in this land, then I have builded you up, and I throw not down; and I have planted you, and I pluck not up; for I have repented concerning the evil that I have done to you.

„Dacă veţi rămâne în ţara aceasta, Eu vă voi zidi şi nu vă voi dărâma, vă voi planta şi nu vă voi smulge, căci Îmi pare rău de răul pe care vi l-am făcut.

11 B e not afraid of the king of Babylon, whom ye are afraid of; be not afraid of him -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- for with you I, to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

Nu vă temeţi de împăratul Babilonului, de care acum vă este frică. Nu vă temeţi de el, zice Domnul, căci Eu sunt cu voi ca să vă scap şi să vă izbăvesc din mâna lui.

12 A nd I give to you mercies, and he hath pitied you, and caused you to turn back unto your own ground.

Îmi voi arăta mila faţă de voi, făcându-l pe împărat să aibă milă de voi şi să vă lase să locuiţi în ţara voastră.

13 ` And if ye are saying, We do not dwell in this land -- not to hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God,

Dacă nu veţi asculta însă de glasul Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, şi veţi zice: «Nu vrem să locuim în ţara aceasta!»,

14 s aying, No; but the land of Egypt we enter, that we see no war, and the sound of a trumpet do not hear, and for bread be not hungry; and there do we dwell.

dacă veţi zice: «Nu, ci vom merge în ţara Egiptului, unde nu vom vedea nici război, nu vom auzi nici sunetul trâmbiţei şi unde nu ne va fi nici foame, şi vom locui acolo!»,

15 A nd now, therefore, hear ye a word of Jehovah, O remnant of Judah: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: If ye really set your faces to enter Egypt, and have gone in to sojourn there,

atunci Domnul are un cuvânt pentru tine, rămăşiţă a lui Iuda. Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Dacă vă veţi hotărî să mergeţi în Egipt şi să locuiţi acolo,

16 t hen it hath come to pass, the sword that ye are afraid of, doth there overtake you, in the land of Egypt; and the hunger, because of which ye are sorrowful, doth there cleave after you in Egypt, and there ye die.

atunci sabia de care vă temeţi vă va ajunge acolo, în ţara Egiptului, şi foametea de care vă este groază vă va urmări în Egipt şi veţi muri acolo.

17 ` Thus are all the men who have set their faces to enter Egypt to sojourn there; they die -- by sword, by hunger, and by pestilence, and there is not to them a remnant and an escaped one, because of the evil that I am bringing in upon them;

Toţi cei ce se vor hotărî să meargă în Egipt şi să locuiască acolo vor muri ucişi de sabie, de foamete şi de molimă; nici unul din ei nu va mai supravieţui şi nimeni nu va scăpa de nenorocirea pe care Eu o voi aduce asupra lor.»“

18 f or thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: As poured out hath been Mine anger and My fury on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so poured out is My fury upon you in your entering Egypt, and ye have been for an execration, and for an astonishment, and for a reviling, and for a reproach, and ye do not see any more this place.

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «După cum mânia şi furia Mea s-au revărsat asupra locuitorilor Ierusalimului, tot aşa se va revărsa furia Mea peste voi când vă veţi duce în Egipt. Veţi fi o pricină de scârbă şi de groază, o pricină de blestem şi de dispreţ; nu veţi mai vedea niciodată locul acesta.»

19 ` Jehovah hath spoken against you, O remnant of Judah, do not enter Egypt: know certainly that I have testified against you to-day;

Rămăşiţă a lui Iuda, Domnul vă spune să nu mergeţi în Egipt. Să fiţi siguri de lucrul aceasta, fiindcă eu vă avertizez astăzi!

20 f or ye have shewed yourselves perverse in your souls, for ye sent me unto Jehovah your God, saying, Pray for us unto Jehovah our God, and according to all that Jehovah our God saith, so declare to us, and we have done;

Căci aţi fost necinstiţi când m-aţi trimis la Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, spunându-mi: «Mijloceşte în favoarea noastră înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru! Descoperă-ne tot ce-ţi va spune Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, iar noi vom împlini ceea ce-ţi va zice.»

21 a nd I declare to you to-day, and ye have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah your God, and to anything with which He hath sent me unto you.

Astăzi eu v-am înştiinţat, însă voi nu vreţi să ascultaţi de glasul Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, în tot ceea ce m-a trimis să vă spun.

22 A nd now, know ye certainly that by sword, by famine, and by pestilence ye die, in the place that ye have desired to go in to sojourn there.'

Acum, fiţi siguri că veţi muri ucişi de sabie, de foamete şi de molimă în locul acela în care vă găsiţi plăcerea să mergeţi şi să locuiţi.“
