1 A nd Jehovah appeareth unto him among the oaks of Mamre, and he is sitting at the opening of the tent, about the heat of the day;

Domnul i S-a arătat lui Avraam lângă stejarii lui Mamre, pe când acesta stătea la intrarea cortului său, în căldura zilei.

2 a nd he lifteth up his eyes and looketh, and lo, three men standing by him, and he seeth, and runneth to meet them from the opening of the tent, and boweth himself towards the earth,

La un moment dat, Avraam şi-a ridicat privirea şi a văzut trei bărbaţi stând în apropierea sa. Când i-a văzut, a alergat de la intrarea cortului ca să-i întâmpine şi s-a plecat până la pământ.

3 A nd he saith, `My Lord, if, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes, do not, I pray thee, pass on from thy servant;

El a zis: – Stăpâne, dacă am găsit bunăvoinţă la Tine, Te rog, nu trece pe lângă robul Tău.

4 l et, I pray thee, a little water be accepted, and wash your feet, and recline under the tree;

Permiteţi să se aducă puţină apă ca să vă puteţi spăla picioarele şi să vă odihniţi sub copac.

5 a nd I bring a piece of bread, and support ye your heart; afterwards pass on, for therefore have ye passed over unto your servant;' and they say, `So mayest thou do as thou has spoken.'

Permiteţi-mi să aduc nişte mâncare, ca să vă învioraţi inimile, după care puteţi merge mai departe, căci de aceea aţi venit la slujitorul vostru. – Aşa este; fă după cum ai spus, i-au răspuns ei.

6 A nd Abraham hasteth towards the tent, unto Sarah, and saith, `Hasten three measures of flour-meal, knead, and make cakes;'

Avraam s-a dus repede în cort la Sara şi i-a zis: „Ia repede trei măsuri de făină, frământă şi fă pâine.“

7 a nd Abraham ran unto the herd, and taketh a son of the herd, tender and good, and giveth unto the young man, and he hasteth to prepare it;

El a alergat la turmă, a luat un viţel a cărui carne era fragedă şi bună şi i l-a dat unui slujitor care s-a grăbit să-l pregătească.

8 a nd he taketh butter and milk, and the son of the herd which he hath prepared, and setteth before them; and he is standing by them under the tree, and they do eat.

Apoi a luat nişte iaurt, nişte lapte, precum şi viţelul pe care îl pregătise şi i-a servit pe cei trei bărbaţi. În timp ce ei mâncau, Avraam stătea lângă ei, sub copac.

9 A nd they say unto him, `Where Sarah thy wife?' and he saith, `Lo -- in the tent;'

Ei l-au întrebat: – Unde este Sara, soţia ta? – Acolo, în cort, a răspuns el.

10 a nd he saith, `returning I return unto thee, about the time of life, and lo, to Sarah thy wife a son.'

Apoi Unul dintre ei a spus: – La anul, pe vremea aceasta, Mă voi întoarce din nou la tine, iar Sara, soţia ta, va avea un fiu. Sara asculta la intrarea cortului care era în spatele Lui.

11 A nd Sarah is hearkening at the opening of the tent, which is behind him;

Avraam şi Sara erau bătrâni, înaintaţi în vârstă, iar Sara trecuse de vârsta când putea avea copii.

12 a nd Abraham and Sarah aged, entering into days -- the way of women hath ceased to be to Sarah;

De aceea Sara a râs în sinea ei, zicând: „Acum că am îmbătrânit, iar stăpânul meu este bătrân, să mai am plăcerea aceasta ?“

13 a nd Sarah laugheth in her heart, saying, `After I have waxed old I have had pleasure! -- my lord also old!'

Domnul l-a întrebat pe Avraam: – De ce a râs Sara, zicând: „Să am într-adevăr un copil acum când sunt bătrână?“

14 A nd Jehovah saith unto Abraham, `Why this? Sarah hath laughed, saying, Is it true really -- I bear -- and I am aged? Is any thing too wonderful for Jehovah? at the appointed time I return unto thee, about the time of life, and Sarah hath a son.'

Este ceva prea greu pentru Domnul ? La anul, pe vremea aceasta, Mă voi întoarce la tine, iar Sara va avea un fiu.

15 A nd Sarah denieth, saying, `I did not laugh;' for she hath been afraid; and He saith, `Nay, but thou didst laugh.'

Dar Sara – pentru că se temea – a negat zicând: – Nu am râs. – Ba da, ai râs! a răspuns El. Mijlocirea lui Avraam pentru Sodoma

16 A nd the men rise from thence, and look on the face of Sodom, and Abraham is going with them to send them away;

Când s-au ridicat de acolo, bărbaţii s-au uitat înspre Sodoma, iar Avraam a mers împreună cu ei ca să-i conducă.

17 a nd Jehovah said, `Am I concealing from Abraham that which I am doing,

Dar Domnul a zis: „Să ascund oare de Avraam ceea ce urmează să fac,

18 a nd Abraham certainly becometh a nation great and mighty, and blessed in him have been all nations of the earth?

din moment ce el va deveni un neam mare şi puternic şi prin el vor fi binecuvântate toate neamurile pământului?

19 f or I have known him, that he commandeth his children, and his house after him (and they have kept the way of Jehovah), to do righteousness and judgment, that Jehovah may bring on Abraham that which He hath spoken concerning him.'

Căci l-am ales pentru a le porunci copiilor săi şi urmaşilor săi după el să ţină calea Domnului, făcând ceea ce este drept şi corect, pentru ca Domnul să-i dea lui Avraam ceea ce i-a promis.“

20 A nd Jehovah saith, `The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah -- because great; and their sin -- because exceeding grievous:

Atunci Domnul a zis: „Plângerea împotriva Sodomei şi Gomorei este foarte mare, iar păcatul lor este foarte grav!

21 I go down now, and see whether according to its cry which is coming unto Me they have done completely -- and if not -- I know;'

Trebuie să cobor să văd dacă au făcut aşa cum s-a auzit până la Mine; iar dacă nu, voi şti.“

22 a nd the men turn from thence, and go towards Sodom; and Abraham is yet standing before Jehovah.

Acei bărbaţi s-au întors de acolo şi au plecat înspre Sodoma. Dar Avraam a rămas, stând înaintea Domnului.

23 A nd Abraham draweth nigh and saith, `Dost Thou also consume righteous with wicked?

Avraam s-a apropiat de El şi a zis: – Îl vei distruge Tu şi pe cel drept împreună cu cel rău?

24 p eradventure there are fifty righteous in the midst of the city; dost Thou also consume, and not bear with the place for the sake of the fifty -- the righteous who in its midst?

Poate că sunt cincizeci de oameni drepţi în cetate; vei distruge atunci acel loc şi nu-l vei cruţa de dragul celor cincizeci de oameni drepţi care sunt în cetate?

25 F ar be it from Thee to do according to this thing, to put to death the righteous with the wicked; that it hath been -- as the righteous so the wicked -- far be it from Thee; doth the Judge of all the earth not do justice?'

Departe de Tine să faci un astfel de lucru: să-l omori pe cel drept împreună cu cel rău, astfel încât celui drept să i se facă la fel ca şi celui rău! Departe de Tine lucrul acesta! Oare nu va face Judecătorul întregului pământ ceea ce este drept?

26 A nd Jehovah saith, `If I find in Sodom fifty righteous in the midst of the city, then have I borne with all the place for their sake.'

– Dacă voi găsi în cetatea Sodoma cincizeci de oameni drepţi, i-a răspuns Domnul, voi cruţa tot acel loc de dragul lor.

27 A nd Abraham answereth and saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have willed to speak unto the Lord, and I -- dust and ashes;

– Acum, că am îndrăznit să-I vorbesc Stăpânului, a spus Avraam, deşi nu sunt decât praf şi cenuşă,

28 p eradventure there are lacking five of the fifty righteous -- dost Thou destroy for five the whole of the city?' and He saith, `I destroy not, if I find there forty and five.'

dacă din cei cincizeci vor lipsi cinci, vei distruge toată cetatea din cauza lipsei celor cinci? – Dacă voi găsi acolo patruzeci şi cinci de oameni drepţi, nu o voi distruge, i-a răspuns El.

29 A nd he addeth again to speak unto Him and saith, `Peradventure there are found there forty?' and He saith, `I do not, because of the forty.'

– Poate vor fi găsiţi numai patruzeci, a adăugat din nou Avraam. – De dragul celor patruzeci, nu o voi distruge, i-a răspuns El.

30 A nd he saith, `Let it not be, I Pray thee, displeasing to the Lord, and I speak: peradventure there are found there thirty?' and He saith, `I do not, if I find there thirty.'

– Să nu se mânie Stăpânul dacă vorbesc iarăşi, I-a spus Avraam. Poate vor fi găsiţi doar treizeci. – Dacă voi găsi acolo treizeici de oameni drepţi, nu o voi distruge, i-a răspuns El.

31 A nd he saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have willed to speak unto the Lord: peradventure there are found there twenty?' and He saith, `I do not destroy, because of the twenty.'

– Acum, că am îndrăznit să-I vorbesc Stăpânului, a continuat Avraam, poate vor fi găsiţi doar douăzeci. – De dragul celor douăzeci, nu voi distruge cetatea, i-a răspuns El.

32 A nd he saith, `Let it not be, I pray Thee, displeasing to the Lord, and I speak only this time: peradventure there are found there ten?' and He saith, `I do not destroy, because of the ten.'

– Să nu se mânie Stăpânul dacă mai vorbesc doar o dată, I-a spus Avraam. Poate vor fi găsiţi doar zece oameni drepţi în cetate. – De dragul celor zece, nu o voi distruge, i-a răspuns El.

33 A nd Jehovah goeth on, when He hath finished speaking unto Abraham, and Abraham hath turned back to his place.

După ce a terminat de vorbit cu Avraam, Domnul a plecat, iar Avraam s-a întors acasă.
