1 A nd the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

Israeliţii au făcut din nou ce este rău în ochii Domnului şi de aceea Domnul i-a dat pe mâna filistenilor timp de patruzeci de ani.

2 A nd there is a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danite, and his name Manoah, his wife barren, and hath not borne;

Era un om din Ţora, din clanul daniţilor, al cărui nume era Manoah. Soţia lui nu putea să nască pentru că era stearpă.

3 a nd a messenger of Jehovah appeareth unto the woman, and saith unto her, `Lo, I pray thee, thou barren, and hast not borne; when thou hast conceived, then thou hast borne a son.

Îngerul Domnului S-a arătat femeii şi i-a zis: „Iată că deşi acum nu poţi să naşti fiindcă eşti stearpă, totuşi vei rămâne însărcinată şi vei naşte un fiu.

4 A nd, now, take heed, I pray thee, and do not drink wine, and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing,

Acum, ia seama şi fereşte-te, ca să nu bei nici vin, nici tărie şi să nu mănânci nimic necurat,

5 f or, lo, thou art conceiving and bearing a son, and a razor doth not go up on his head, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb, and he doth begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.'

căci sigur vei rămâne însărcinată şi vei naşte un fiu. Briciul nu va trece peste capul lui, fiindcă copilul va fi un nazireu al lui Dumnezeu încă din pântece şi el va fi acela care va începe să elibereze Israelul din mâna filistenilor.“

6 A nd the woman cometh and speaketh to her husband, saying, `A man of God hath come unto me, and his appearance as the appearance of a messenger of God, very fearful, and I have not asked him whence he, and his name he hath not declared to me;

Femeia s-a dus şi i-a istorisit soţului ei, spunându-i: „A venit la mine un om al lui Dumnezeu. Înfăţişarea Lui era foarte înfricoşătoare, ca înfăţişarea Îngerului lui Dumnezeu. Nu L-am întrebat de unde venea şi nu mi-a dezvăluit care-I este numele.

7 a nd he saith to me, Lo, thou art pregnant, and bearing a son, and now do not drink wine and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb till the day of his death.'

El mi-a zis că voi rămâne însărcinată şi voi naşte un fiu. De aceea nu trebuie să beau nici vin, nici tărie şi nu trebuie să mănânc nimic necurat, fiindcă copilul va fi un nazireu al lui Dumnezeu încă din pântece şi până în ziua morţii lui.“

8 A nd Manoah maketh entreaty unto Jehovah, and saith, `O, my Lord, the man of God whom Thou didst send, let him come in, I pray thee, again unto us, and direct us what we do to the youth who is born.'

Atunci Manoah s-a rugat Domnului şi I-a zis: „Stăpâne Doamne, Te rog, fă să revină la noi omul lui Dumnezeu, pe care L-ai trimis şi să ne înveţe ce să facem cu băiatul care se va naşte!“

9 A nd God hearkeneth to the voice of Manoah, and the messenger of God cometh again unto the woman, and she sitting in a field, and Manoah her husband is not with her,

Dumnezeu a ascultat rugăciunea lui Manoah şi Îngerul Domnului a venit din nou la femeie. Ea rămăsese la câmp, iar Manoah, soţul ei, nu era cu ea.

10 a nd the woman hasteth, and runneth, and declareth to her husband, and saith unto him, `Lo, he hath appeared unto me -- the man who came on day unto me.'

Femeia a alergat repede să-i dea de ştire bărbatului ei. Ea i-a zis: „Iată că omul care a venit în acea zi la mine, mi S-a arătat din nou!“

11 A nd Manoah riseth, and goeth after his wife, and cometh unto the man, and saith to him, `Art thou the man who spake unto the woman?' and he saith, `I.'

Manoah s-a dus repede după soţia sa, iar când a ajuns la omul acela I-a zis: – Tu eşti omul care i-a vorbit soţiei mele? El i-a răspuns: – Eu sunt!

12 A nd Manoah saith, `Now let thy words come to pass; what is the custom of the youth -- and his work?'

Manoah I-a zis: – Când se vor împlini cuvintele Tale, ce rânduială să ţinem cu băiatul în vederea lucrării lui?

13 A nd the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, `Of all that I said unto the woman let her take heed;

Îngerul Domnului i-a răspuns lui Manoah: – Femeia să se ferească de tot ce i-am spus!

14 o f anything which cometh out from the wine-vine she doth not eat, and wine and strong drink she doth not drink, and any unclean thing she doth not eat; all that I have commanded her she doth observe.'

Să nu mănânce nimic care vine din viţa-de-vie, să nu bea nici vin, nici tărie şi să nu mănânce nimic necurat. Să păzească tot ce i-am poruncit.

15 A nd Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `Let us detain thee, we pray thee, and prepare before thee a kid of the goats.'

Manoah I-a zis Îngerului Domnului: – Dă-ne voie să Te reţinem ca să-Ţi pregătim un ied.

16 A nd the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, `If thou detain me -- I do not eat of thy bread; and if thou prepare a burnt-offering -- to Jehovah thou dost offer it;' for Manoah hath not known that He a messenger of Jehovah.

Îngerul Domnului i-a răspuns lui Manoah: – Chiar dacă M-ai opri, n-aş mânca din mâncarea ta, dar dacă vrei să aduci o ardere de tot, atunci să o aduci Domnului! Manoah nu ştia că este Îngerul Domnului.

17 A nd Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `What thy name? when thy words come to pass, then we have honoured thee.'

Atunci Manoah I-a zis Îngerului Domnului: – Care-Ţi este Numele, ca să Te onorăm când se vor adeveri cuvintele Tale?

18 A nd the messenger of Jehovah saith to him, `Why this -- thou dost ask for My name? -- and it Wonderful.'

Îngerul Domnului i-a răspuns: – De ce Îmi ceri Numele? El este minunat.

19 A nd Manoah taketh the kid of the goats, and the present, and offereth on the rock to Jehovah, and He is doing wonderfully, and Manoah and his wife are looking on,

Manoah a luat iedul şi darul de mâncare şi le-a oferit Domnului pe stâncă. În timp ce Manoah şi soţia sa priveau, s-a înfăptuit o minune.

20 a nd it cometh to pass, in the going up of the flame from off the altar toward the heavens, that the messenger of Jehovah goeth up in the flame of the altar, and Manoah and his wife are looking on, and they fall on their faces to the earth,

Pe când flacăra se ridica de pe altar spre cer, Îngerul Domnului S-a suit în flacăra altarului. Văzând lucrul acesta, Manoah şi soţia sa au căzut cu feţele la pământ.

21 a nd the messenger of Jehovah hath not added again to appear unto Manoah, and unto his wife, then hath Manoah known that He a messenger of Jehovah.

Îngerul Domnului nu S-a mai arătat din nou lui Manoah şi soţiei lui. Atunci Manoah a înţeles că fusese Îngerul Domnului.

22 A nd Manoah saith unto his wife, `We certainly die, for we have seen God.'

Manoah i-a zis soţiei sale: – Sigur vom muri fiindcă am văzut pe Dumnezeu!

23 A nd his wife saith to him, `If Jehovah were desirous to put us to death, He had not received from our hands burnt-offering and present, nor shewed us all these things, nor as time caused us to hear like this.'

Dar soţia lui i-a răspuns: – Dacă ar fi vrut Domnul să ne omoare nu ar fi primit din mâinile noastre arderea de tot şi darul, nu ne-ar fi descoperit toate acestea şi nu ne-ar fi ascultat în vremuri ca acestea!

24 A nd the woman beareth a son, and calleth his name Samson, and the youth groweth, and Jehovah doth bless him,

Femeia a născut un fiu şi i-a pus numele Samson. Băiatul a crescut şi Domnul l-a binecuvântat.

25 a nd the Spirit of Jehovah beginneth to move him in the camp of Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

Duhul lui Dumnezeu a început să-l pună în mişcare la Mahane-Dan, între Ţora şi Eştaol.
