1 A nd the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

Los israelitas volvieron a hacer lo malo a los ojos del Señor, y durante cuarenta años el Señor los entregó al poder de los filisteos.

2 A nd there is a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danite, and his name Manoah, his wife barren, and hath not borne;

En Sorá, poblado de la tribu de Dan, había un hombre llamado Manoa, que no tenía hijos porque su mujer era estéril.

3 a nd a messenger of Jehovah appeareth unto the woman, and saith unto her, `Lo, I pray thee, thou barren, and hast not borne; when thou hast conceived, then thou hast borne a son.

Cierto día, un ángel del Señor se le apareció a su mujer y le dijo: «Es un hecho que eres estéril, y que nunca has tenido hijos. Pero vas a quedar embarazada y darás a luz un hijo.

4 A nd, now, take heed, I pray thee, and do not drink wine, and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing,

Sólo que tú no debes beber vino ni sidra, ni comer nada que sea impuro.

5 f or, lo, thou art conceiving and bearing a son, and a razor doth not go up on his head, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb, and he doth begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.'

Al hijo que vas a concebir y dar a luz no debes cortarle nunca el cabello, porque desde antes de nacer el niño estará consagrado a Dios como nazareo, y él comenzará a salvar a Israel del poder de los filisteos.»

6 A nd the woman cometh and speaketh to her husband, saying, `A man of God hath come unto me, and his appearance as the appearance of a messenger of God, very fearful, and I have not asked him whence he, and his name he hath not declared to me;

La mujer fue y le contó a su marido lo sucedido. Le dijo: «Un varón de Dios vino a hablar conmigo. Su aspecto era tan impresionante y temible que parecía un ángel de Dios. Yo no le pregunté quién era, ni de dónde venía, ni tampoco él me reveló su nombre.

7 a nd he saith to me, Lo, thou art pregnant, and bearing a son, and now do not drink wine and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb till the day of his death.'

Lo que sí me dijo, fue: “Vas a quedar embarazada y darás a luz un hijo. Así que tú no debes beber vino ni sidra, ni comer nada que sea impuro, porque desde antes de nacer, y hasta que muera, este niño estará consagrado a Dios como nazareo.”»

8 A nd Manoah maketh entreaty unto Jehovah, and saith, `O, my Lord, the man of God whom Thou didst send, let him come in, I pray thee, again unto us, and direct us what we do to the youth who is born.'

Manoa oró entonces al Señor, y dijo: «Mi Señor, yo te ruego que venga otra vez ese varón que enviaste, para que nos diga qué es lo que debemos hacer con el niño que va a nacer.»

9 A nd God hearkeneth to the voice of Manoah, and the messenger of God cometh again unto the woman, and she sitting in a field, and Manoah her husband is not with her,

Dios escuchó los ruegos de Manoa, y su ángel volvió a ver a la esposa de Manoa mientras ésta se hallaba en el campo. Manoa no estaba con ella.

10 a nd the woman hasteth, and runneth, and declareth to her husband, and saith unto him, `Lo, he hath appeared unto me -- the man who came on day unto me.'

Entonces la esposa corrió a decirle a su marido: «¡Ven, que se me ha aparecido otra vez el varón que me habló el otro día!»

11 A nd Manoah riseth, and goeth after his wife, and cometh unto the man, and saith to him, `Art thou the man who spake unto the woman?' and he saith, `I.'

Manoa se levantó y siguió a su mujer, y le preguntó al varón: «¿Eres tú quien habló con mi esposa?» Y el varón respondió: «Sí, yo soy.»

12 A nd Manoah saith, `Now let thy words come to pass; what is the custom of the youth -- and his work?'

Entonces Manoa dijo: «Cuando se cumpla tu promesa a mi esposa, ¿cómo debemos educar al niño, y qué tenemos que hacer con él?»

13 A nd the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, `Of all that I said unto the woman let her take heed;

Y el ángel del Señor le respondió: «Tu esposa debe abstenerse de todo lo que yo le dije.

14 o f anything which cometh out from the wine-vine she doth not eat, and wine and strong drink she doth not drink, and any unclean thing she doth not eat; all that I have commanded her she doth observe.'

No tomará nada que provenga de la vid; no beberá vino ni sidra, ni comerá nada que sea impuro. Debe abstenerse de todo lo que le ordené.»

15 A nd Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `Let us detain thee, we pray thee, and prepare before thee a kid of the goats.'

Manoa le dijo al ángel del Señor: «Por favor, permítenos detenerte un poco. Queremos prepararte un cabrito.»

16 A nd the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, `If thou detain me -- I do not eat of thy bread; and if thou prepare a burnt-offering -- to Jehovah thou dost offer it;' for Manoah hath not known that He a messenger of Jehovah.

Pero el ángel del Señor respondió: «Aun cuando me quedara, no comeré nada de lo que me ofrezcas. Si quieres ofrecer un holocausto, ofrécelo al Señor.» Como Manoa no sabía que estaba ante el ángel del Señor,

17 A nd Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `What thy name? when thy words come to pass, then we have honoured thee.'

le preguntó: «¿Cómo te llamas? Así podremos honrarte cuando se cumpla tu promesa.»

18 A nd the messenger of Jehovah saith to him, `Why this -- thou dost ask for My name? -- and it Wonderful.'

Pero el ángel del Señor respondió: «¿Por qué me preguntas cómo me llamo? ¿No sabes que mi nombre es inefable?»

19 A nd Manoah taketh the kid of the goats, and the present, and offereth on the rock to Jehovah, and He is doing wonderfully, and Manoah and his wife are looking on,

Entonces Manoa tomó un cabrito y una ofrenda, y los ofreció al Señor sobre una peña; el ángel, por su parte, realizó un milagro frente a Manoa y su mujer.

20 a nd it cometh to pass, in the going up of the flame from off the altar toward the heavens, that the messenger of Jehovah goeth up in the flame of the altar, and Manoah and his wife are looking on, and they fall on their faces to the earth,

Y sucedió que, al elevarse al cielo la llama que ardía sobre el altar, el ángel se elevó junto con la llama. Entonces ellos se postraron en tierra,

21 a nd the messenger of Jehovah hath not added again to appear unto Manoah, and unto his wife, then hath Manoah known that He a messenger of Jehovah.

y el ángel del Señor no se les volvió a aparecer. Cuando Manoa se dio cuenta de que era el ángel del Señor,

22 A nd Manoah saith unto his wife, `We certainly die, for we have seen God.'

le dijo a su mujer: «Seguramente vamos a morir, porque hemos visto a Dios.»

23 A nd his wife saith to him, `If Jehovah were desirous to put us to death, He had not received from our hands burnt-offering and present, nor shewed us all these things, nor as time caused us to hear like this.'

Pero su mujer le respondió: «Si el Señor quisiera matarnos, no hubiera aceptado el holocausto ni la ofrenda, ni nos hubiera mostrado todo esto, y tampoco nos hubiera anunciado esto.»

24 A nd the woman beareth a son, and calleth his name Samson, and the youth groweth, and Jehovah doth bless him,

Y la esposa de Manoa tuvo un hijo, y le puso por nombre Sansón. Y el niño crecía, y el Señor lo bendecía.

25 a nd the Spirit of Jehovah beginneth to move him in the camp of Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

Y fue en los campamentos de Dan, entre Sorá y Estaol, donde el espíritu del Señor comenzó a manifestarse en él.
