1 A nd Moab transgresseth against Israel after the death of Ahab,

Después de la muerte de Ajab, Moab se rebeló contra Israel.

2 a nd Ahaziah falleth through the lattice in his upper chamber that in Samaria, and is sick, and sendeth messengers, and saith unto them, `Go ye, inquire of Baal-Zebub god of Ekron if I recover from this sickness.'

Y Ocozías, que se había caído desde la ventana de una sala de su palacio de Samaria, desde su lecho de dolor mandó mensajeros para consultar a Baal Zebub, dios de Ecrón, pues quería saber si recuperaría la salud.

3 A nd a messenger of Jehovah hath spoken unto Elijah the Tishbite, `Rise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and speak unto them, Is it because there is not a God in Israel -- ye are going to inquire of Baal Zebub god of Ekron?

Pero el ángel de Dios le dijo a Elías el tisbita: «Ve al encuentro de los mensajeros del rey de Samaria, y diles: “¿Ya olvidaron que Israel tiene un Dios poderoso? ¿Por qué van a consultar a Baal Zebub, dios de Ecrón?”

4 a nd therefore, thus said Jehovah, The bed whither thou hast gone up, thou dost not come down from it, for thou dost certainly die;' and Elijah goeth on.

Así ha dicho el Señor: “No te vas a levantar de tu cama, sino que definitivamente morirás.”» Elías se fue a su encuentro.

5 A nd the messengers turn back unto him, and he saith unto them, `What this -- ye have turned back!'

Y cuando los mensajeros volvieron, el rey les preguntó: «¿Por qué regresaron?»

6 A nd they say unto him, `A man hath come up to meet us, and saith unto us, Go, turn back unto the king who sent you, and ye have said unto him, Thus said Jehovah, Is it because there is not a God in Israel -- thou art sending to inquire of Baal-Zebub god of Ekron? therefore, the bed whither thou hast gone up, thou dost not come down from it, for thou dost certainly die.'

Y ellos respondieron: «Encontramos a un profeta que nos dijo: “Regresen con el rey y díganle: Así ha dicho el Señor: ¿Acaso no hay Dios en Israel? ¿Por qué consultas a Baal Zebub, dios de Ecrón? Por eso no te vas a levantar de tu cama, sino que definitivamente morirás.”»

7 A nd he saith unto them, `What the fashion of the man who hath come up to meet you, and speaketh unto you these words?'

Y el rey preguntó: «¿Qué apariencia tenía el varón que encontraron, y que les dijo eso?»

8 A nd they say unto him, `A man -- hairy, and a girdle of skin girt about his loins;' and he saith, `He Elijah the Tishbite.'

Y ellos respondieron: «Iba vestido con pieles de animales, y se ceñía con un cinturón de cuero. » Entonces el rey dijo: «Se trata de Elías, el tisbita.»

9 A nd he sendeth unto him a head of fifty and his fifty, and he goeth up unto him (and lo, he is sitting on the top of the hill), and he speaketh unto him, `O man of God, the king hath spoken, Come down.'

Enseguida el rey mandó a un capitán con cincuenta soldados a buscar a Elías, que estaba sentado en la cumbre del monte. El capitán subió a verlo, y le dijo: «Varón de Dios, el rey te pide que bajes.»

10 A nd Elijah answereth and speaketh unto the head of the fifty, `And if I a man of God, fire doth come down from the heavens, and consume thee and thy fifty;' and fire cometh down from the heavens, and consumeth him and his fifty.

Pero Elías le respondió al capitán: «Si soy un varón de Dios, que caiga fuego del cielo y te consuma con tus cincuenta soldados.» Al instante cayó fuego del cielo, y consumió al capitán y a sus cincuenta soldados.

11 A nd he turneth and sendeth unto him another head of fifty and his fifty, and he answereth and speaketh unto him, `O man of God, thus said the king, Haste, come down.'

Entonces el rey envió a otro capitán con otros cincuenta soldados, y éste le dijo lo mismo: «Varón de Dios, el rey te pide que bajes pronto.»

12 A nd Elijah answereth and speaketh unto them, `If I a man of God, fire doth come down from the heavens, and consume thee and thy fifty;' and fire of God cometh down from the heavens, and consumeth him and his fifty.

Y Elías respondió: «Si soy un varón de Dios, que caiga fuego del cielo y te consuma con tus cincuenta soldados.» Y al instante cayó fuego del cielo, y consumió al capitán y a sus cincuenta soldados.

13 A nd he turneth and sendeth a third head of fifty and his fifty, and the third head of fifty goeth up, and cometh in, and boweth on his knees over-against Elijah, and maketh supplication unto him, and speaketh unto him, `O man of God, let be precious, I pray thee, my soul and the soul of thy servants -- these fifty -- in thine eyes.

Pero el rey volvió a enviar a un tercer capitán, también con cincuenta soldados, y cuando éste estuvo frente a Elías, se puso de rodillas y le dijo: «Varón de Dios, te ruego que me perdones la vida, y la de estos cincuenta siervos tuyos.

14 L o, come down hath fire from the heavens, and consumeth the two heads of the former fifties and their fifties; and, now, let my soul be precious in thine eyes.'

El fuego que ha caído del cielo ha consumido a los dos primeros capitanes y a sus cincuenta soldados; dígnate salvarme la vida, si crees que vale algo.»

15 A nd a messenger of Jehovah speaketh unto Elijah, `Go down with him, be not afraid of him;' and he riseth and goeth down with him unto the king,

Entonces el ángel de Dios le dijo a Elías: «No tengas miedo. Puedes ir con él.» Y Elías bajó del monte y fue a ver al rey.

16 a nd speaketh unto him, `Thus said Jehovah, Because that thou hast sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub god of Ekron -- is it because there is not a God in Israel to inquire of His word? therefore, the bed whither thou hast gone up -- thou dost not come down from it, for thou dost certainly die.'

Cuando llegó ante él, le dijo: «Tú enviaste mensajeros a consultar a Baal Zebub, dios de Ecrón. ¿Acaso no hay Dios en Israel, a quien puedes consultar? Por eso, no te vas a levantar de tu cama, sino que definitivamente morirás.»

17 A nd he dieth, according to the word of Jehovah that Elijah spake, and Jehoram reigneth in his stead, in the second year of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, for he had no son.

Y el rey de Israel murió, tal y como Dios lo había dicho por medio de Elías. En su lugar reinó su hermano Jorán, porque Ocozías no había tenido hijos. Esto sucedió en el segundo año del reinado de Jorán hijo de Josafat, rey de Judá.

18 A nd the rest of the matters of Ahaziah that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
