1 A nd Jehoshaphat his son reigneth in his stead, and he strengtheneth himself against Israel,

Después de Asa reinó en su lugar su hijo Josafat, el cual se impuso por la fuerza sobre Israel.

2 a nd putteth a force in all the fenced cities of Judah, and putteth garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.

En todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá puso ejércitos, y colocó guarniciones en Judá y en las ciudades de Efraín que su padre Asa había conquistado.

3 A nd Jehovah is with Jehoshaphat, for he hath walked in the first ways of David his father, and hath not sought to Baalim,

El Señor estuvo con Josafat, porque éste no se fue tras los baales, sino que siguió los caminos por los que antes anduvo David, su padre;

4 f or to the God of his father he hath sought, and in His commands he hath walked, and not according to the work of Israel.

buscó al Dios de sus antepasados y siguió sus mandamientos y no lo que hacían los de Israel.

5 A nd Jehovah doth establish the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah give a present to Jehoshaphat, and he hath riches and honour in abundance,

Por eso el Señor confirmó en sus manos el reino, y todo Judá le daba tributo, así que llegó a tener grandes y abundantes riquezas y esplendor.

6 a nd his heart is high in the ways of Jehovah, and again he hath turned aside the high places and the shrines out of Judah.

Se entrego de corazón a los caminos del Señor, y quitó de en medio de Judá los lugares altos y las imágenes de Asera.

7 A nd in the third year of his reign he hath sent for his heads, for Ben-Hail, and for Obadiah, and for Zechariah, and for Nethaneel, and for Michaiah, to teach in cities of Judah,

Al tercer año de su reinado, Josafat envió a sus príncipes Ben Jayil, Abdías, Zacarías, Natanael y Micaías, para que instruyeran a la gente en las ciudades de Judá.

8 a nd with them the Levites, Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijath, and Tob-Adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

Con ellos envió a los levitas Semaías, Netanías, Zebadías, Asael, Semiramot, Jonatán, Adonías, Tobías y Tobadonías, y también a los sacerdotes Elisama y Jorán.

9 A nd they teach in Judah, and with them the Book of the Law of Jehovah, and they go round about into all cities of Judah, and teach among the people.

Éstos llevaban consigo el libro de la ley del Señor, y recorrieron todas las ciudades de Judá enseñando al pueblo.

10 A nd here is a fear of Jehovah on all kingdoms of the lands that round about Judah, and they have not fought with Jehoshaphat;

El pavor del Señor dominaba a todos los reinos vecinos de Judá, y éstos nunca se atrevieron a declararle la guerra a Josafat.

11 a nd of the Philistines they are bringing in to Jehoshaphat a present, and tribute silver; also, the Arabians are bringing to him a flock, rams seven thousand an seven hundred, and he-goats seven thousand and seven hundred.

Los filisteos le pagaban a Josafat tributos de plata y le llevaban regalos. También los árabes le llevaban ganados y hasta siete mil setecientos carneros y siete mil setecientos machos cabríos.

12 A nd Jehoshaphat is going on and becoming very great, and he buildeth in Judah palaces and cities of store,

Con esto, Josafat fue ganando mucha fuerza, y edificó en Judá fortalezas y ciudades de aprovisionamiento.

13 a nd he hath much work in cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty of valour, in Jerusalem.

Acumuló muchas provisiones en las ciudades de Judá, y en Jerusalén tenía hombres muy valientes y aguerridos.

14 A nd these their numbers, for the house of their fathers: Of Judah, heads of thousands, Adnah the head, and with him mighty ones of valour, three hundred chiefs.

Según sus casas paternas y los jefes de los legiones de Judá, su número era el siguiente: Trescientos mil guerreros muy esforzados, bajo el mando del general Adnas.

15 A nd at his hand Jehohanan the head, and with him two hundred and eighty chiefs.

Doscientos ochenta mil soldados, bajo el mando del jefe Johanán.

16 A nd at his hand Amasiah son of Zichri, who is willingly offering himself to Jehovah, and with him two hundred chiefs, mighty of valour.

Doscientos mil valientes, bajo el mando de Amasías hijo de Zicri, que se había presentado voluntariamente para servir al Señor.

17 A nd of Benjamin: mighty of valour, Eliada, and with him, armed with bow and shield, two hundred chiefs.

Doscientos mil guerreros armados de arco y escudo, bajo el mando de Eliada, un benjaminita muy valeroso.

18 A nd at his hand Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty chiefs, armed ones of the host.

Ciento ochenta mil hombres en pie de guerra, bajo el mando de Jozabad.

19 T hese those serving the king, apart from those whom the king put in the cities of fortress, in all Judah.

Todos ellos estaban al servicio del rey, sin contar a los que el rey mismo había puesto en las ciudades fortificadas de todo Judá.
