1 A nd a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets hath cried unto Elisha, saying, `Thy servant, my husband, is dead, and thou hast known that thy servant was fearing Jehovah, and the lender hath come to take my two children to him for servants.'

La viuda de uno de los profetas presentó a Eliseo la siguiente súplica: «Mi esposo, siervo tuyo, ha muerto. Tú bien sabes que él era temeroso del Señor. Pero nuestro acreedor ha venido ahora y quiere llevarse a mis dos hijos para venderlos como esclavos.»

2 A nd Elisha saith unto her, `What do I do for thee? declare to me, what hast thou in the house?' and she saith, `Thy maid-servant hath nothing in the house except a pot of oil.'

Eliseo le dijo: «¿Y en qué te puedo ayudar? Dime qué es lo que tienes en casa.» La viuda dijo: «Esta sierva tuya no tiene en casa más que una vasija de aceite.»

3 A nd he saith, `Go, ask for thee vessels from without, from all thy neighbours -- empty vessels -- let not be few;

Entonces Eliseo le dijo: «Ve y pide a tus vecinos que te presten algunas vasijas vacías. ¡Todas las que puedas conseguir!

4 a nd thou hast entered, and shut the door upon thee, and upon thy sons, and hast poured out into all these vessels, and the full ones thou dost remove.'

Luego, entra en tu casa y enciérrate con tus hijos. Echa aceite en todas las vasijas, y ve apartándolas conforme las vayas llenando.»

5 A nd she goeth from him, and shutteth the door upon her, and upon her sons; they are bringing nigh unto her, and she is pouring out,

La viuda se fue a su casa, cerró la puerta tras de sí y se encerró con sus hijos; y conforme ellos iban trayendo las vasijas, ella las iba llenando de aceite.

6 a nd it cometh to pass, at the filling of the vessels, that she saith unto her son, `Bring nigh unto me a vessel more,' and he saith unto her, `There is not a vessel more;' and the oil stayeth.

Cuando todas las vasijas estuvieron llenas, ella le pidió a uno de sus hijos que le pasara una vasija más. Pero en cuanto su hijo le contestó que ya no había más vasijas, el aceite se terminó.

7 A nd she cometh and declareth to the man of God, and he saith, `Go, sell the oil, and repay thy loan; and thou thy sons do live of the rest.'

Entonces ella fue a contárselo al varón de Dios, y éste dijo: «Ahora ve y vende el aceite, y págale a tu acreedor, y tú y tus hijos vivan de lo que les quede.» Eliseo y la sunamita

8 A nd the day cometh that Elisha passeth over unto Shunem, and there a great woman, and she layeth hold on him to eat bread, and it cometh to pass, at the time of his passing over, he turneth aside thither to eat bread,

En cierta ocasión, una mujer importante de Sunén invitó a Eliseo a comer en su casa. Y cada vez que Eliseo pasaba por allí, la mujer le insistía que se quedara a comer.

9 a nd she saith unto her husband, `Lo, I pray thee, I have known that a holy man of God he is, passing over by us continually;

A su marido le dijo: «¿Sabes de qué me he dado cuenta? ¡Pues de que este hombre que siempre pasa por nuestra casa es un santo varón de Dios!

10 l et us make, I pray thee, a little upper chamber of the wall, and we set for him there a bed, and a table, and a high seat, and a candlestick; and it hath been, in his coming in unto us, he doth turn aside thither.'

Debiéramos hacerle un pequeño aposento en la azotea, y poner allí una cama y una mesa, y una silla y un candelero, para que cuando pase por aquí pueda quedarse con nosotros.»

11 A nd the day cometh, that he cometh in thither, and turneth aside unto the upper chamber, and lieth there,

Un día en que Eliseo pasó por allí, se quedó a dormir en ese aposento,

12 a nd he saith unto Gehazi his young man, `Call for this Shunammite;' and he calleth for her, and she standeth before him.

pero le dijo a Guejazí, su criado: «Llama a la sunamita.» Guejazí la llamó, y cuando ella se presentó ante Eliseo,

13 A nd he saith to him, `Say, I pray thee, unto her, Lo, thou hast troubled thyself concerning us with all this trouble; what -- to do for thee? is it to speak for thee unto the king, or unto the head of the host?' and she saith, `In the midst of my people I am dwelling.'

éste, dirigiéndose a Guejazí, dijo: «Esta mujer ha sido muy amable con nosotros. Pregúntale qué quiere que haga yo en su favor. ¿Necesita que hable por ella al rey, o al general del ejército?» Y la mujer respondió: «En medio de mi pueblo, yo vivo como una reina.»

14 A nd he saith, `And what -- to do for her?' and Gehazi saith, `Verily she hath no son, and her husband aged.'

Pero Eliseo insistió: «Entonces, ¿qué podemos hacer por ella?» Y Guejazí respondió: «Su marido ya es anciano, y ella no tiene hijos todavía.»

15 A nd he saith, `Call for her;' and he calleth for her, and she standeth at the opening,

Eliseo le ordenó entonces a su criado que la llamara. Guejazí la llamó y, cuando ella se detuvo en la puerta,

16 a nd he saith, `At this season, according to the time of life, thou art embracing a son;' and she saith, `Nay, my lord, O man of God, do not lie unto thy maid-servant.'

Eliseo le dijo: «Dentro de un año, por estos días, tendrás un hijo en tus brazos.» Pero ella protestó: «¡No, mi señor, varón de Dios! ¡No te burles de esta sierva tuya!»

17 A nd the woman conceiveth and beareth a son, at this season, according to the time of life, that Elisha spake of unto her.

Sin embargo, la mujer concibió y un año después, por el tiempo que Eliseo le había dicho, dio a luz un hijo.

18 A nd the lad groweth, and the day cometh that he goeth out unto his father, unto the reapers,

Y el niño creció. Pero un día que fue a ver a su padre, que andaba con los segadores,

19 a nd he saith unto his father, `My head, my head;' and he saith unto the young man, `Bear him unto his mother;'

de pronto gritó: «¡Padre, mi cabeza! ¡Me duele la cabeza!» Enseguida el padre ordenó a uno de sus criados que lo llevara con su madre.

20 a nd he beareth him, and bringeth him in unto his mother, and he sitteth on her knees till the noon, and dieth.

El criado así lo hizo. Pero al mediodía, mientras el niño estaba sentado en el regazo de su madre, murió.

21 A nd she goeth up, and layeth him on the bed of the man of God, and shutteth upon him, and goeth out,

Entonces ella subió al aposento del varón de Dios, lo puso sobre la cama, y cerrando la puerta salió de allí.

22 a nd calleth unto her husband, and saith, `Send, I pray thee, to me, one of the young men, and one of the asses, and I run unto the man of God, and return.'

Luego fue a llamar a su marido, y le dijo: «Te ruego que me prestes a uno de los criados y una de tus asnas. Quiero ir corriendo a ver al varón de Dios, para que regrese.»

23 A nd he saith, `Wherefore art thou going unto him to-day? -- neither new moon nor sabbath!' and she saith, `Peace!'

Pero su marido objetó: «¿Y para qué vas a verlo hoy? Si no es nueva luna, ni día de reposo.» Pero ella simplemente se despidió.

24 A nd she saddleth the ass, and saith unto her young man, `Lead, and go, do not restrain riding for me, except I have said to thee.'

Mandó aparejar el asna, y le dijo al criado: «¡En marcha! ¡Tú nos diriges! ¡Pero no me detengas en el camino, a menos que yo te lo ordene.»

25 A nd she goeth, and cometh in unto the man of God, unto the hill of Carmel, and it cometh to pass, at the man of God's seeing her from over-against, that he saith unto Gehazi his young man, `Lo, this Shunammite;

Y así, la mujer partió y se fue al monte Carmelo, donde estaba el varón de Dios. Y cuando éste la vio a la distancia, le dijo a su criado Guejazí: «Aquí viene la sunamita.

26 n ow, run, I pray thee, to meet her, and say to her, Is there peace to thee? is there peace to thy husband? is there peace to the lad?' and she saith, `Peace.'

Hazme el favor de ir corriendo a recibirla, y pregúntale cómo está ella, y su marido y su hijo.» Ella respondió que estaba bien,

27 A nd she cometh in unto the man of God, unto the hill, and layeth hold on his feet, and Gehazi cometh nigh to thrust her away, and the man of God saith, `Let her alone, for her soul bitter to her, and Jehovah hath hidden from me, and hath not declared to me.'

pero en cuanto llegó al monte, donde estaba el varón de Dios, se arrojó a sus pies. Guejazí se acercó y trató de levantarla, pero el varón de Dios le dijo: «Déjala, que se encuentra muy amargada. Pero el Señor no me ha dicho qué es lo que pasa, sino que me ha encubierto el motivo.»

28 A nd she saith, `Did I ask a son from my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?'

Entonces ella dijo: «¿Acaso yo le pedí un hijo a mi señor? ¿No dije, más bien, que no te burlaras de mí?»

29 A nd he saith to Gehazi, `Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thy hand, and go; when thou dost meet a man, thou dost not salute him; and when a man doth salute thee, thou dost not answer him; and thou hast laid my staff on the face of the youth.'

Entonces Eliseo le dijo a Guejazí: «Cíñete la ropa, toma mi bastón, y ponte en marcha. Si te encuentras con alguien, no lo saludes, y si alguien te saluda, no le respondas. Al llegar, pon mi bastón sobre el rostro del niño.»

30 A nd the mother of the youth saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth -- if I leave thee;' and he riseth and goeth after her.

Pero la madre del niño le dijo: «Juro por el Señor, y por tu vida, que no voy a dejarte aquí.»

31 A nd Gehazi hath passed on before them, and layeth the staff on the face of the youth, and there is no voice, and there is no attention, and he turneth back to meet him, and declareth to him, saying, `The youth hath not awaked.'

Entonces Eliseo se levantó y la siguió. Guejazí, que se había adelantado, llegó y puso el bastón sobre el rostro del niño; pero el niño no había dado señales de vida, así que Guejazí se había vuelto para encontrarse con Eliseo, y cuando lo encontró le dijo: «El niño no despierta.»

32 A nd Elisha cometh in to the house, and lo, the youth is dead, laid on his bed,

Cuando Eliseo llegó a la casa, el niño yacía tendido sobre la cama, sin vida.

33 a nd he goeth in and shutteth the door upon them both, and prayeth unto Jehovah.

Entonces Eliseo entró y cerró la puerta tras de sí, y oró al Señor.

34 A nd he goeth up, and lieth down on the lad, and putteth his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands, and stretcheth himself upon him, and the flesh of the lad becometh warm;

Luego, subió a la cama y se tendió sobre el niño, juntando boca con boca, ojos con ojos, y manos con manos. Así, se mantuvo tendido sobre el niño, hasta que el cuerpo del niño comenzó a entrar en calor.

35 a nd he turneth back and walketh in the house, once hither and once thither, and goeth up and stretcheth himself upon him, and the youth sneezeth till seven times, and the youth openeth his eyes.

Luego Eliseo se levantó y comenzó a pasearse de un lado a otro de la casa, y después volvió a subirse a la cama, y se tendió otra vez sobre el niño; en ese momento el niño estornudó siete veces, y abrió sus ojos.

36 A nd he calleth unto Gehazi, and saith, `Call unto this Shunammite;' and he calleth her, and she cometh in unto him, and he saith, `Lift up thy son.'

Entonces Eliseo llamó a Guejazí, y le ordenó que llamara a la sunamita. Guejazí la llamó y, cuando ella entró, Eliseo le dijo: «Toma tu hijo.»

37 A nd she goeth in, and falleth at his feet, and boweth herself to the earth, and lifteth up her son, and goeth out.

La mujer entró y, sin levantar el rostro, se arrojó a los pies de Eliseo. Después de eso, tomó a su hijo y se fue. Milagros en beneficio de los profetas

38 A nd Elisha hath turned back to Gilgal, and the famine in the land, and the sons of the prophets are sitting before him, and he saith to his young man, `Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets.'

Cuando Eliseo volvió a Gilgal, se encontró con que había una grave hambruna en la región. Como los hijos de los profetas estaban con él, le ordenó a su criado: «Pon una olla grande, y haz un guisado para los profetas.»

39 A nd one goeth out unto the field to gather herbs, and findeth a vine of the field, and gathereth of it gourds of the field -- the fulness of his garment -- and cometh in and splitteth into the pot of pottage, for they knew not;

Uno de ellos salió al campo a recoger hierbas, y halló una planta parecida a una parra silvestre; llenó su manto con los frutos de esa planta y regresó, y al llegar cortó los frutos y los echó en la olla del guisado, sin saber qué clase de frutos eran.

40 a nd they pour out for the men to eat, and it cometh to pass at their eating of the pottage, that they have cried out, and say, `Death in the pot, O man of God!' and they have not been able to eat.

Después se sirvió el guisado para que comieran los profetas, pero en cuanto ellos lo probaron, dijeron: «¡Varón de Dios, lo que hay en la olla nos va a matar!» Y no lo pudieron comer.

41 A nd he saith, `Then bring ye meal;' and he casteth into the pot, and saith, `Pour out for the people, and they eat;' and there was no evil thing in the pot.

Entonces Eliseo pidió que trajeran harina, y luego de esparcirla en la olla, dijo: «Ya pueden dar de comer a la gente.» Y no hubo nada en la olla que hiciera daño.

42 A nd a man hath come from Baal-Shalishah, and bringeth in to the man of God bread of first-fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in its husk, and he saith, `Give to the people, and they eat.'

Llegó entonces un hombre de Baal Salisá, que trajo al varón de Dios panes de primicias, veinte panes de cebada, y trigo nuevo todavía en su espiga. Eliseo ordenó a su criado que diera de comer a la gente,

43 A nd his minister saith, `What -- do I give this before a hundred men?' and he saith, `Give to the people, and they eat, for thus said Jehovah, Eat and leave;'

pero su criado respondió: «¿Cómo voy a ofrecer sólo esto a cien hombres?» Pero Eliseo volvió a decir: «Dale a la gente de comer, que el Señor ha dicho: “Comerán, y hasta sobrará.”»

44 a nd he giveth before them, and they eat and leave, according to the word of Jehovah.

Entonces Guejazí puso lo que tenía delante de ellos y, conforme a la palabra del Señor, ellos comieron y hasta les sobró.
